Hampton Inn Carbondale

This Hampton is undergoing renovations. Pool and spa were not available. Rooms were damp feeling. Entry to the hotel was difficult. Food was average. This is the first Hampton that we have been disappointed in. Would not stay here again.

The evening we stayed here was move in weekend for SIU and we had moved our son into his apartment. We chose this location for its price and amenities. It was very unfortunate that management chose to shut down the pool and hot tub for routine maintenance this weekend and we could not enjoy the pool or the spa on the hottest day of the year. Seems a little suspect or just bad timing. I don’t believe I will stay here on any future visits.

Room 303 TV didn’t work. Dead mosquitos in the bathtub. Air conditioning didn’t work in hotel. Air conditioning in room was cool but not cold. Ended up leaving right after checking in. Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express instead.

The hallway to our room smelled musty.the Spa wasn’t open. The carpet in our room was wet and the bathtub was full of a gritty sandlike mess . The breakfast buffet was mostly carbs

The motel is very worn out and not up to Hampton standards at all. Every single towel was thin, worn out and had stains. There were ants everywhere. I thought I had the wrong room the first time I tried to go in because of how hard it was to open the door. The pool looked disgusting but they were apparently renovating it but I never seen anyone working on it. The fridge was basically a freezer because every one of my water froze solid with a couple of hours and it didn’t have a thermostat. I will say the bed was comfortable but the pillows were not. The WiFi kept cutting off. I could probably go on some more but I hope you get the point, and don’t waste your money staying here because it not worth the Hampton price.

The pool was broken. It was 105°. I would like a partial refund.

The property itself was fine, but the people that worked there, not so much. We stayed for two nights, four people in a room. We left the second morning after eating breakfast. The bananas ( ALL OF THEM!) looked like they had their best days weeks ago. They were black, soft and rotten! The rest of the food looked decent, but the woman working the room was just unpleasant, not saying good morning after being spoken to and snappy when asked about food. We left about 10:00 and returned after a long, exasperating day. The room had not been attended to and that included no new towels and trash cans overrunning. When I went down to inquire, the desk clerk told me that it is done every other day. I asked where that was posted and she said that she had just come in at 3:00. AND???? There was another woman that was down the hall from me and had the same complaint that I had. She brought towels and took the trash away after I went back upstairs.

Overall our experience was good. There were several small things that we didn't care for, but the location was outstanding and since our kids paid for our room, the price was fabulous! The pool area was closed and while getting in and out of our room was perfect for us, getting into and out of the hotel parking was not so simple. Comfort was fine, tv was easy to operate unlike recent experiences elsewhere, and sink was inside bathroom which was also wonderful. Small issues included window blind not operating easily, rust ring (or something) in tub, faucet on sink needed to be more over the middle of sink instead of right on edge, shower curtain too close to shower handle causing flood on floor. Breakfast was ok, but we only ate once (stayed two nights) as polish sausage not our thing for breakfast meat. Waffle stations had variety of toppings if that's your thing. Probably would try a different place next time.
