"Disappointing room, great location"

The location.

I understand the benefits hotels gain from policies related to bookings for solo travellers through Booking.com however, the room given (Rm 120), comparatively to other rooms in the same category, was substandard. I see this as a reflection on the hotel rather than the booking service which makes hotel bookings easy to navigate for international travellers. I accept the need for renovation however, the value should be adjusted accordingly.

"Great location, but some service inconsistencies."

We stayed for two nights at the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton and overall had a mixed but generally positive experience. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and I believe it was Daniel who assisted us. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which set a great first impression. We also appreciated being upgraded in advance through my Gold membership to a King Executive room. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a separate seating/work area which was a nice feature. However, the room did appear to be adjoining, and noise from the neighbouring room was clearly audible through the connecting door. The bed being positioned right next to this door made it more noticeable than ideal. Due to a late arrival on the first night, we ordered room service. Calling through was unsuccessful, so we used the QR code ordering system instead. Unfortunately, not all menu items were available through the platform, meaning we couldn’t order our preferred choices. The food eventually arrived after around an hour, and a couple of items were missing. Quality was reasonable (around 7/10), consistent with typical room service expectations. Breakfast was a highlight—staff were warm and welcoming, the dining area was clean, and food was replenished regularly with a good selection available. This was included with our Gold membership, which was appreciated. The main frustration came on our final day when trying to arrange a late checkout or day-use option due to a late flight. We enquired the evening prior and were advised this could not be processed at the desk and would need to be booked online, though it was unclear how this would integrate with our existing reservation. The following morning we were told the hotel was at capacity and no day-use was available. However, we later found availability for day-use rooms via the Hilton app, which was confusing and disappointing given the conflicting information and lack of assistance in arranging it the night before. Overall, a comfortable stay with strong points including staff friendliness at both check-in and breakfast. The location was also excellent—within easy walking distance of all major attractions, and the Big Bus tour stop was less than five minutes’ walk from the hotel.

"Convenient Hotel in the heart of the city"

Great place in a very convenient location. Extremely helpful and friendly staff, especially Clionadh who expedited checkout and directed us to the easiest path to the train station from the hotel. The maps don’t adequately show the elevation differences.

"Helpful reception staff"

We enjoyed our time at the Hilton.it was made particularly special by our daily interactions with Anya at the reception desk. Anya was patient and eager to interact with our toddler, asking about our daily updates and sharing stories of the different adventures we had been on each day. Thank you!

"Great hotel in a great location near the Royal Mile with exemplary service."

My wife and I stayed here at the end of May, early June for seven nights, combining a business trip with a mini vacation. Although the hotel is undergoing some renovations which created a little confusion at times, all of the staff more than made up for it with their warm, friendly, and helpful attitudes. The hotel is located in a very good location near the Royal Mile so all attractions can be easily reached, even on foot if you are good walkers. The bar was cozy and breakfast was satisfying and a good way to start out the day. I’d like to particularly call out one of the breakfast servers, David who was more than helpful not only with the food but with tips and suggestions. A good way to judge a hotel is how they deal with problems. Part way through our stay our heating / air conditioning system malfunctioned only putting out hot air. The engineering department was unsuccessful in getting it working properly but were very accommodating in providing some fans. We were happy to stay in the room as otherwise it was a large upgraded room with a wonderful view over the city. The whole issue was handled professionally and we were ultimately compensated with some Hilton points. I highly recommend this hotel for the location, service, and attention to detail. I will likely be in Edinburgh again for business and will definitely stay here again.
