The Metropole Hotel

I went to the metropole for the jazz and it was one of the most terrible experiences we have had the staff were so rude to my friend, stating that her outfit was inappropriate- when it was not at all and I saw plenty of other girls wearing things that were much more revealing. The staff member was very rude about it and should handled it better by pulling her aside instead of calling her out in front of loads of people. Very unprofessional and I will never go there again.

Booked a table for six. When we arrived we were told the restaurant was closed l. After insisting we had a reservation we were eventually seated. The wrong order was brought for one of our party who had to wait 20 minutes for the correct order by which time everyone else was finished eating. Was then charged for 7 meals instead of 6. I had a horrendous experience here during the Jazz festival. A staff member came upto my friend unprompted and told her that she was dressed incredibly inappropriately for the evening and then walked away. This woman was not a bouncer or member of management and just took it upon herself to come over and insult my friend. If there was a dresscode issue than it should have been addressed correctly on the door, not snide comments made by staff with no authority to do so. My friend was not dressed inappropriately, she looked great and very classy for a classy evening. I absolutely will not be back due to the abhorrent treatment of my friend and there should be consequences for that staff member.

Good location, reception and bar area well maintained however the bedrooms are not 4 star standard. No fridge, no air con, had to request an iron, holes in bed linen, decor tired. Bathroom tiles painted with tile paint which is now flaking off and just made the bathroom feel grubby. We requested a takeaway breakfast to be ready for 7am for early departure and receptionist claimed to have no record so we went without.

I've stayed in The Metropole on and off for years, I had my first date with my partner of 15 years there, my parents had their honeymoon there and this week I booked two nights as a treat as we were going to a show on one of the nights. The deal I booked was a "Suite Deal" included accommodation in a suite, Breakfast and afternoon tea on one afternoon, great.. or so I thought. I was pretty excited about the accommodation I've stayed in some nice rooms over the years at the Metropole and one which didn't even have a window once but this time I was treating myself, hmmm unfortunately the room we were given was 205 right next to the Jack Lynch Suite ummm yeah the room we got was 100% not a Suite just a normal double room tiny tv shabby bathroom tired grout badly chipped tiles very very very sad, clean but sad I was actually heartbroken. The included afternoon tea was equally sad... I had afternoon tea here before and it was good but this time no... firstly it was meant to be sparkling and I had to ask for the Prosecco, no tea choice, sad not very fresh cakes, sad sandwiches and no choice, no mention of what we were going to get if we wanted to swap anything allergies nothing, the scones... two tiny mini scones... we weren't even given butter or jam or cream initially.. I asked for a normal scone and jam and cream etc and was given it no problem but the whole thing again was very very disappointing, I wasn't expecting The Westbury standard but like at least try to make it nice it was just so sad. Breakfast was better and very nice great choices etc. Most of the staff we encountered were lovely which had always been a major feature of this hotel but... some were very uninterested, on checking out we weren't even asked how things were etc. Maybe that's a good thing! On the one hand this is a nice comfortable hotel... but fobbing off average rooms as "suites" at premium prices? Sorry that is really not fair on the customer and downright offensive to be honest, I mean it when I say it pains me to say it but I don't think I'll be back I'd definitely be looking to spend my money elsewhere unfortunately.

The rooms are vanilla. Do not park at their recommended carpark. Yes, it's close. Yes, they coach you on how to pay your ticket at the desk and get a validation card from the car park. Yes, they tell you that if you don't you have to pay 25 Euro to get out. That's because, even after you do all of this, they lock you in and you STILL have to pay 25 IN CASH to get out. Then they like to say, it's the car park, not them. Find another accommodation. The Dean 2 blocks up the street is superior!

Second time staying in the Metropole, we loved it the first time but this time we were a bit disappointed. The bathroom was a bit tired and needs improving. The hand basin also needed a bit more of a clean. The bath and shower curtain need replacing. Availability of a separate walk-in shower is always better. The toilet was also slow to flush and not efficient, it's understandably an old building but I'm sure there is a way to improve this. More guidance on parking would be welcome instead of having to ask staff a number of questions to confirm the process. Location is great, we love Cork and would return to the hotel if these improvements were made.

Nice hotel but our room felt tired instead of exuding heritage. Good location but I would not stay there next time. I was not comfortable.

Lovely central hotel, excellent value, friendly and front of house staff from porter to receptionists very good at their job. Only one constructive observation, breakfast room staff appeared to be on a different planet than in the room, slow, at times for the birds, slow to attend tables, replenishing food on the self service took an iternity. They lacked some sort of supervision. But other than that hotel excellent.
