Alila Manggis, Bali

Friendly but needs radical refurbishment and not a luxury hotel. Poor quality restaurant and pricey food and drinks. Not recommended.

This is my second visit to this property and I absolutely love the serene atmosphere. Staff was kind enough to serve our breakfast poolside which truly added to our experience. There is no real beach access and this property might be a little slow for those looking for more action but for a romantic getaway, it is perfect. We spent hours on our veranda, overlooking the pool and the sea. Would defintely return.

We had an amazing experience with this well-designed hotel which has all the amenities and activities that one would like, eg, spa, cycling, yoga, jogging, etc all at friendly prices.... Alila ensures you will never be bored with their wide-ranging activities. We did the snorkelling trip and it was simply fantastic! The friendly, ever so helpful and chatty staff gave the stay a more human touch. A lovely experience indeed!

We've stayed at Alila Manggis twice now. It's a fabulous place to relax and the staff are great.

Beautiful, elegant, clean Hotel and SPA. The cook was superb and the SPA too. Every one was very helpful and gentle.

No beach but right on the sea. Nice refreshing breezes and good pool, but with minimal occupancy, it seemed that the pool facilities were fully used (what happens when they have higher occupancy?). The whole offering felt a little 'tired' although it was once a well designed very smart hotel. Rather smarter than some of the places in Candidasa, but a LOT more expensive so pretty poor value for money. Some of the staff seemed competent and friendly but this was not universal. Just one little story. At breakfast each day the chef had prepared an 'amusee bouche' in the form of three small pieces of fruit per person, each with a really interesting sauce on the top that produced a stunning flavour mix. Clever, simple idea. However, no-one thought to train the poor girl who was given the job of serving it! Consequently she was serving them face down, so the whole effect that the chef had intended was lost - such a shame. Not the girl's fault, I hasten to add, poor training! It probably tells you a lot about the place: nice people, not really thinking through their offering and still charging quite a lot by local standards. The only time we saw management was as we left - that was a bit strange too.

We stayed just one night at Alila Manggis before we heading to our next diving site, but the service was the best for all my stays in Bali. The manager was so kind to welcome us when they doing our check-in. They provide complementary afternoon tea. You can enjoy it by the poolside. We had a nice special east Balinese dinner there. We had a reservation right after the dinner. We thought we had all the courses when we sign the bill, but when we were waiting at the spa reception, the staff from the restaurant kindly brought the dessert have't served to the SPA. Although, the facility in the room was a little bit old, the overall experience at Alila Manggis was excellent.

We stayed here for only a few days on a quick break from Singapore - in this respect the hotel was ideal: quiet and relaxing with exceptionally friendly staff and not too far from the airport at Denpasar. Most of our time was spent lounging by the pool, which is set in a coconut grove between the sea and the main hotel buildings. The food was excellent, and the hotel chef prepared a delicious meal with the fish that we caught on a morning fishing trip. We stayed in the basic "superior" room which was perfectly acceptable for a short break. We were personally greeted and made to feel welcome by the manager which was a nice touch. The pool is very shallow at the sides making lengths impossible, so if you want to do any real swimming beyond just paddling around, you'll be a bit disappointed. We used the hotel's own airport transfer which worked well.

The staff at Alila Manggis were friendly and extremely welcoming. All of the staff provided excellent customer service and made our holiday one to remember. The room was clean and had all the necessary - if somewhat basic - facilities. There were four of us in total and we dined at the restaurant for three nights out of the seven. On the first two nights the food was delicious. The third night was disappointing and so we decided to venture into Candidasa for food. This was a wise decision. We saved a fortune and ate at restaurants such as 'Vincent's' where the cost of the meal was half the price of what we had been paying at the hotel. The hotel is in a great location and is perfect if you want to relax to the sound of the waves. My wife had a massage at the resort and loved it (highly recommended).
