"The Human Touch"

10.0

The special 'X' factor that makes a Hotel / Resort memorable are not only the facilities, amenities, food, rooms, etc but also the human factor. This Resort is already well known for its high standard and service as stated in the earlier reviews before mine. I expected to experience all of these but to add to the pleasure and pleasantness of our short stay at the Resort, we encountered friendliness, helpfulness and genuine greetings every where we went around the Resort. A simple good morning accompanied with a genuine smile from a Resort staff walking by or a staff stopping their work temporarily to greet us are enough to make you feel that you have friends among strangers. The staffs are helpful with our queries, giving us assistance whenever required without expressing it being a burden to them. Our encounters with Ms Viknes and Mr Harlem at the reception desk, Mr Hasan and Mr Mages at the restaurant, Mr Segar while attending to us at the Jetty and Mr Joey from F&B and other staffs leaves a memorable impression on our trip. Yes .. as expected, the Resort is wonderful and 'top-notch' .. but to have such staffs manning the Resort just takes it to a higher level which cannot be assessed by statistics and numbers. For us personally, this Resort is definitely the place to go to unwind and to untangle yourself from the outside world momentarily .. a short stay in paradise with the added 'human touch' thrown in ... how could you not have a wonderful and memorable experience?!!

"A very warm coming home..."

10.0

When the opportunity arose to experience the newly refurbished villa at Pangkor Laut Resort, I didn’t hesitate for a second—I said yes, instantly. A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Wayne Lee (Vice Présidents, Opérations Resorts at YTL Hotels), Ms. Ivy Tan (General Manager of PLR), and of course, Mr. Mohannad Shaweesh (Director of Sales & Marketing for YTL Hotels and Resorts), for this wonderful invitation. From the moment we arrived at the Pangkor Laut Resort reception by the marina, we were welcomed with the signature warmth and impeccable hospitality that PLR is so well known for. As we stepped onto the jetty, I was personally greeted by Mr. Segar, a familiar face I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for years. After a delightful lunch, Mr. Segar graciously escorted us to the villa. It felt incredible to return to the Sea Villa—a special place I first stayed in back in 2010. Fifteen years on, it’s still as captivating as ever. After a short rest, we made our way to Emerald Bay to catch its world-famous sunset. We were lucky—the weather was perfect, and the view, simply unforgettable. Dinner at Fisherman’s Cove was yet another highlight. With a lovely table, beautifully prepared dishes, and heartfelt service, it truly felt like coming home. Throughout our stay, the team at Pangkor Laut Resort never missed an opportunity to offer a warm smile and a sincere greeting. It’s one of the many reasons I keep falling in love—not just with this property, but with all of YTL Hotels’ resorts across Malaysia. Will I return? Absolutely. In fact, let’s start counting down to Christmas this year—although perhaps I should first focus on training for the Chapman’s Challenge with my daughter in May 2026! (It’s ambitious, I know, but maybe I’ll start with one full lap of small steps around the Tuileries Gardens in Paris.) Would I recommend this magical place to my friends? Without question—1,000% yes. It was truly special to celebrate my 50++ birthday in style at Pangkor Laut Resort—a perfect prelude before flying off to Paris to continue the festivities. It feels so good to be back.

"Average experience"

6.0

Not much activities here. Cannot access the resort much by foot as it’s quite steep. The resort needs to have more fun activities arranged for its guests. It’s a secluded resort, so only meant for those who like quiet time. Food options for vegetarians were limited.

"An exclusive retreat"

10.0

The landscape, the setting are beyond serene. The staff from Managers down are amazingly friendly. Chapman's cove/ Emerald Bay is heavenly. An assortment of F&B outlets to give you variety. The rooms are super spacious and well equipped, clean and well stocked. The bed was comfortable. The pool clean. When we were there it seemed uncrowded - maybe guests were dispersed in the numerous F&B outlets. The jungle trail was good led by Einstein. It takes some effort to get to PLR, but one cannot expect to find a seaside resort with a jungle setting in a city. The external uncovered carpark was expensive - paid RM90 for 50 hours. There could have been some night entertainment eg piano recital/ music etc. The boat ride to/ from this private island is expensive if you miss their limited schedule

"Pangkor Laut Report - a disappointing experience."

4.0

This was our fourth visit to Pangkor Laut Resort since 2009 and it was the most disappointing. With a stunning beach and excellent spa, the resort’s facilities are quite pleasant. But they’re clearly dated and in need of repair. The reception was often unreachable and the internet was unreliable — frustrating and not something you’d expect from a 5 star facility. But what disappointed us the most, was the dining experience. Although we had a good Chinese style dinner at Uncle Lim’s, the food in the other outlets were far below par. Examples illustrating this are: oil soaked spring rolls and samosas that were cold inside, tasteless nasi lemak in triangular take-away packages at breakfast, soggy char kway teow probably heated up for multiple consecutive meals, tasteless lamb rack, tuna pasta that had nothing but tomato paste and a small black coffee doubling as espresso. If, like us, you enjoy drinking wine at dinner, count on paying minimum 400 MYR for something mediocre. Having lived in Malaysia for 12 years, we know the delicacies the Malaysian cuisine has to offer. They just did not offer it here. Pity to see such deterioration over the years as this used to be one of our favourite getaways. Without significant improvements, particularly food, we’re not likely to return.

"A heavenly place of serenity"

10.0

We stayed at PLR in May as a family, for 3 nights & 2 days. My partner & I stayed at the Spa Villa; a villa on stilts with private balcony overlooking the sea, situated at the furthest point & the most private part of the island. My SIL & 14 year old nephew stayed at the Garden Villa, situated at the main part of the resort, close to the reception, pool, restaurants & sports areas. 1. Both villas were beautifully set up, & clean. 2. The adults only pool at the Spa Village is slightly smaller but was quiet & peaceful, with attentive pool bar staff. 3. The kabanas are also beautifully set up & private. 4. Checking in at the mainland was easy & checking out process was just as easy too. 5. Arrival briefing was a great idea for the guest to get to know the resort. 6. The jungle walk with resort’s resident naturalist, Fairuz was a very educational experience. Fairuz is a very enthusiastic naturalist who adores the island & is packed full of knowledge. 7. The staff is the resort’s best asset. Nearly all of the staff were very polite, helpful & eager to please everyone. I’d like to mention Apon, who is one of the floor staff who was looking after us, what a sterling service. 8. Food options were good enough (a lot of food) & the staff were very mindful of my nephew who is a Coeliac, & the chef & staff ensured that he had all gluten free food the entire time. If I must pick on one or 2 downsides of PLR: Though the resort has been revamped, personally I think it looks a bit dated

"Superb resort, amazing staff!"

10.0

Stayed 10 days in April. Spent 8 nights in a Hill village with a great view. We really enjoyed it as you are very close to nature but you do have occasional contact with groups of monkeys and they can be a bit pushy. We learnt to just ignore them and let them pass but we were delayed getting to our room a couple of times. Spent 2 nights in the Spa Village which was magical also. Both rooms were really comfortable and we could fault them. The staff at this hotel are sold of the best and nicest people we have met. They really wanted you to enjoy yourself and took great pride in their work. There are lots of guests workers from many countries but they all appeared happy and looked after. Special mention to the following staff Farzam, Joey and Badsah in the main restaurant Jeff in reception. Sakhil, Adnyana, Prema,Santosh Prebi and Sunil in the Fisherman’s Cove Also Lisa the general manage made time to get to know you which we really appreciated What really made the service in this resort special was Segar. He was a great guy and a real asset to this company. We really enjoyed the Chinese and Fisherman Cove equally and the food at the main restaurant was also good especially for local Malai curries. The price of drinks was reasonable and there was a happy hour every evening until 7.30. They made a decent Negroni!! The main beach was the other side of the bay. There is a shuttle that runs regularly. We walked one way each day just to get some exercise but it is very hilly and tough in the humidity. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and can’t think of anything negative to say.
