Went to Barneys with my wife, for lunch and drinks on the terrace. Great view of the golf club, and delicious food. Service was excellent from server Hannah. Definitely would return.

"Beware of deals, make sure wallet is full."

6.0

The room was adequate clean and comfortable although extremely hot with no means of cooling. The spa - the staff there were lovely. Especially Harvey who gave the most amazing full body massage. He was so welcoming and caring, professional and skilled, I would highly recommend this therapist. The amenities are lovely too. The 3 star review is because of the restaurant and bar. The restaurant have, some very enthusiastic staff members, it was like they were auditioning for a part in Faulty Towers, and pushing you to buy extra’s!!!! Food allowance of £35 pp was used up with the main meal, £42 for a 6oz fillet steak!!!! ( it was cooked and presented well, but far to expensive for 6oz), starters were about £14 each, and sides that were pushed were £6. We ended up with a bill that would have bought a full meal at a reasonably priced restaurant on it’s own, without the £70 allowance!!! And included in our bill was only 1 drink. We were also supposed to be given 10% off drinks with our return voucher but this was not given at the spa or the restaurant. The cocktail bar, although a most beautiful old room, beautifully furnished, was empty, which speaks volumes, the bar was only staffed intermittently. We sat in there on our own as there was no other bar available, another customer came in and said it was like a ghost town and left. This was at 10pm on a Friday night.

"Good"

I booked this property, paid for my booking for them to cancel it after 3pm the day before arrival as they had overbooked the hotel! To make matters worse I have had to chase my refund with the hotel initially saying my reservation was cancelled due to me not having followed their policies for check in!

"SPA 7/10. Hotel 2/10. Do not recommend."

6.0

"Luxury" spa. Dingy hotel. THE HOTEL While the outside of the hotel and common areas are stunning, the rooms leave much to be desired. The first room we were allocated was smaller than we expected but was fine for the few nights stay. However the clump of fake eyelashes and stains left in the bathroom was unacceptable, this got me wondering what else in this hotel was not getting cleaned. After a quick request to change rooms, reception were kind enough to upgrade us. This room was a more acceptable size for a couple and definitely recommend spending that little extra if you insist on staying here. While the room was bigger, there were still old hard water stains left on the bathroom floor under the sink and the wallpaper was peeing off in the bedroom presumably from the damp of the leaking pipes in the bathroom. Overall a less than standard hotel stay. THE SPA After a couple of nights stay in a less than satisfactory room, we were looking forward to the spa and a massage, the whole reason we took the 4 hour journey down from Glasgow. From the get go this experience was a nightmare. Since I was completely unable to view or book anything via the hotels website (tried for days and never got it working) both the room and our massages were booked over the phone. This is where the initial miscommunication happened as we were told 10:15 for our appointment but was in fact 10:00. Additionally we were never informed that our massages did not include access to the spa, despite asking for the best deal to include everything. Upon arriving to the spa, we discussed this with reception and were told we had to spend an extra £60 per person to access the spa, upon considering this it was definitely worth it. By the time we headed for our treatments it was just going on 10:15 where we were greeting with a very unhappy masseuse who informed us we were late and were now into the time of the treatment. Due to this fact we were rushed through and despite her asking which areas I would like her to focus on I was informed at the end of the massage she "didn't have time" which left me wondering why she asked at all. During my massage, if you could call it that, I received approximately 5 minutes of actual massage techniques and the rest was spent being rubbed with oil and having perfumed sprays sprayed over my face. For booking a deep tissue massage and having only been rubbed with her palms I was immediately fuming. The whole thing felt like a complete SCAM!! Despite not having time to receive a proper massage my masseuse had plenty of time to try snd sell me several products at the end of the session, where she reminded me for a third time she didn't have time to complete the massage. I was so angry at the end of this session that I reported to reception that this was the worst massage I have ever received and was almost in tears at the thought of having to complain as I never usually would. Thankfully reception were extremely helpful to this and offered me a complimentary massage at a different time which I admit was 10 times better but by this point the whole experience had been ruined for me. Additional points are the changing rooms need a big upgrade, very dirty looking and at times smelled like sewage, not a luxury experience at all. Definitely recommend going for the spa; though it was extremely busy and found it hard to get loungers, the hotel and the massages could be given a miss. Massive thank you to both reception teams who helped rectify both issues, but for the price we paid for two nights I would have expected no issues in the first place.

"Cancelled booking 1 day prior"

2.0

Same experience as Travelinnigan, last night received an email saying the had double booked and cancelling our reservation. Absolutely gutted we had paid for a hired car and kennels for the dog. They offered free cancellation or an upgrade on other dates. Not taking into account we have lost money on travel. We got the deal via Vitality Health and I even confirmed the booking a few days ago. When you go in booking.com there are rooms available. Will not use this company again and will be sure to tell other members we know of the poor experience.. it would be a shame if it was because we were on a deal and they took higher paying guest in place of us. Thanks for ruining our anniversary

"A little disappointed"

6.0

I was a little disappointed with my recent stay. My wife and I booked a 1 night stay with 2 rounds of golf, massage and dinner bed and breakfast included (~£410). The hotel façade, hotel grounds, the golf course and staff were very nice. However we found the following issues: 1. Evening meals were sub standard and a little expensive (£30 for a roast dinner). The roast dinners had inedible Yorkshire puddings little veg (2 small carrots and 2 runner beans) and over seasoned gravy. It felt like we had the leftovers from lunchtime. I tried to explain to the staff when asked, but no apologies or attempts to fix the situation. 2. After my wife had her massage, she asked to use the shower facilities to wash off the oils. As they did not offer a robe or slippers, she needed to change into her clothes (full of oil) to walk through reception to the facilities. 3. Having stayed at many hotels before, I assumed free use of a gym and swimming pool. I did not expect additional costs for both. It was like the facilities were not part of the hotel. 4. Whilst we were in the car park, two of the male staff walked to rear corner and both urinated. They obviously were not aware of our presence, but it seemed strange they needed to relieve themselves in public. 5. The reception was understaffed. There was assistant trying to deal with many guests, causing delays of ~15 minutes. In my honest opinion, I think the hotel caters for groups of golfers, with the expectation of large bar bills. I hope these opinions are taken on board for possible improvements in the future.
