Excellent breakfast

Food menu at Cultra Inn…practically no fresh vegetables with dishes unless bought as an extra. Emphasis on quantity and most dishes disguised with garlic, picallili, relish etc. rather than healthy basic ingredients.

We stayed here for 6 nights and overall really enjoyed our time here in this quiet hotel just outside Belfast. The staff are extremely professional, well trained and friendly (particularly in the Loch Bar), the grounds are beautifully maintained and filled with the most amazing sculptures, the bed was extremely comfortable, our room had a nice view overlooking the garden and the food we had for 4 nights in the Loch Bar was really very good. Our main let-down was the buffet breakfast. No matter how quick eggs are placed on the buffet they go almost hard boiled within a few minutes and in our 6 breakfasts hubby was only once able to get a "fresh" egg where he said "this is how it should be every morning for a hotel of this standard", the sausage was lukewarm (never hot) and, depending on how long it'd been there, the bacon could be really tricky to cut. It was in-fact inedible on one day. We did speak to the manager, I think on day 4, and he said there was a breakfast menu we could order from (we had not been made aware of this) but, on the last day of our stay I saw a nearby guest order an omelette from the menu yet the staff member went to the buffet for the accompanying sausage & bacon! Service was also a bit haphazard with plates not being cleared several mornings, leaving me to place on the window sill, and to also hand to a passing staff member. Other than our first morning there was too much time between being seated and our order being taken for tea and coffee. On Tuesday, which was one of the quietest days, after a very lengthy wait our order for one tea and one coffee with mixed toast was taken. We got two teas with white toast. The table next to us, who'd also complained about the time everything was taking had their entire order arrive to find both cooked breakfasts were wrong. We've stayed at hotels where it's buffet breakfast but haven't encountered the issue with the quality of breakfast we had here. I understand, as the manager said, they cater for bus parties who are on a strict timeline but for us, on a leisurely break, we don't want to set the alarm and we like to enjoy a hot freshly cooked breakfast. Also, if you're there for a night or two breakfast might not be a bit issue but as the week went on it did become just that for us. As I am not an egg eater the buffet for me is normally a great option. Unfortunately, for us, breakfast service and the quality of food was by far the weakest part of our stay so next time we would book room only and eat breakfast out.

A coffee machine in bedroom would be nice
