Holiday Inn Derby Nottingham M1 J25 by IHG

Very convenient and comfortable

Stayed here on an overnight trip to Nottingham as city centre CP was too expensive for the budget. Located very nicely off the A52 and sort of tucked away near houses, you could miss this if not looking for the sign from a distance. Car park is large and extends round to the back of the hotel, and you go under a bridge which is the hotel's indoor corridor to the rooms. There are rear entrances to the hotel (rooms) via key card, so check in first before heading round the back. Tried to check in early but room not ready, so worked in the bar which was busy for a morning. The good access to the main routes makes it a good meeting location, and the bar is open early. Free WiFi in the hotel too. Once checked in, the trek to the room is across a footbridge, down some stairs, down more stairs if you're on the ground floor, then follow the signs. It's not ideal if you have a wheelchair or find stairs a challenge. It's a good two minute walk from reception to the room. Had issues with the room, HVAC not working, and very strong smell of bleach. Even though hotel 98% full, the staff did do a good job to find a room with working HVAC and no smell of bleach. In the room and the nightmare of remotes and TV channels exist here. Someone please explain why BBC1 is channel 87 and ITV is about 113.........where is the logic and how are we expected to know this. Booked a room with double bed and sofa. Glad I did as the standard rooms are very small. The bathroom in the room was very small, only room for one and one in the shower. Probably the smallest bathroom I've ever had in a Holiday Inn. Wall mounted shower gels with the usual broken pump dispenser. Why these are not checked by housekeeping is disappointing. Shower flow not great, but enough to wash but it water pressure could be better. Shower adjustor broken so had to hold it while washing. Again, housekeeping should check these from time to time and get maintenance to fix them. Usual tea and coffee with kettle and UHT milk. Breakfast is a reasonably good spread of hot and cold selections. The bar/evening menu is standard for all Holiday Inn's of this grade, and fairly reasonably priced but it will be 3663 catering and microwaved to order. If you choose to go out, there are various places to eat within a 10 minute drive, but you need to know the area, so if not sure, stay in and go off the menu. Prices range from £7 to £20. Soft drinks are expensive and crisps are an absolute rip off at £2.45 per bag. This is not specific to this hotel, they are a rip off at all HI's of this grade. Find a local mini-mart and stock up there. Check out was fine, and the free parking is good too. Staff were all friendly and helpful, so no issues there. The hotel (sadly) is a typical tired Holiday Inn tagged to a main A road and needs some TLC applied. I liken it to Chester South, and Cannock (even worse). Would I stay again................if I had to but I'd probably look at the city centre if I had the choice. Rooms very small Bathroom even smaller Heating ----> good luck TV - hopefully the batteries last until you find a channel you like. Staff - the saving grace for the hotel, and if they're honest, bet they'd agree with the comments and would welcome a face lift to the hotel.

Convenient location for breaking our journey. Good food, friendly staff , nice comfortable room.

Restaurant food was very disappointing and not worth the money at all. Room was rather cold with an air conditioning system that was too noisy to leave running. Breakfast was good Convenient location Would not stay again

Breakfast was awful, they ran out of bacon, fried eggs, mushrooms and beans also mugs. We were in a hurry so couldn’t wait for everything. Then in the car a lady came asking for payment of a dinner that we didn’t have. Obviously someone charged their meal to our room.

Very warm and welcoming check-in. Helpful and friendly staff at every interaction. Breakfast good.

This hotel is located close to the motorway and has very good ev charging facilities. The service was friendly and efficient, the rooms comfortable and a good size and the evening meal tasty. The only slight downside was the breakfast food had been sat on the self service hot plates for a while when i had breakfast (08:30) and was a bit overcooked.

Absolutely amazing customer service from the time we arrived until departure. Good food, great atmosphere. Of particular note are Mandy on reception who went out of her way to make us feel welcome and to help us during our stay. Also Ricardo in the restaurant whose attention to detail was amazing, he could not do enough for us

Great breakfast and very friendly staff. Room was not hoovered very well and the noise from next door woke us up. They were only talking but we had an interconnecting door in the room and even though they were locked I could have joined in there conversation it was that clear. I would stay here again but would request a room with no interconnecting door.
