"Lovely place to stay"

10.0

One of my favourite hotels in India. This place was beautiful and calming. Felt earthy. No TV in the room. Everything is aimed as sustainable. Food was really good. There was a pool, but we didn’t use it, Staff were friendly. Would have liked to stay longer here.

"We should have stayed longer!"

10.0

For anyone seeking a wildlife oasis this is it. We had a huge bungalow with a private garden, with so much space we could have easily lost our 7 bags. It was immaculately clean and the bed was amazing. In a seperate room we had enough seating for probably 10 people... it was vast! There were birds and butterflies absolutely everywhere. A nice touch was that all the trees and shrubs were labelled... a must for the nature curious! The rooms and bungalows are set out in extensive grounds under a loose cannopy of mature trees wit smaller shrubs and lawns below, meaning that the birds are all around you. The restaurant was excellent and the menu pretty extensive. The staff were wonderful. We were there for just 2 nights but being wildlife nutcases were could have easily stayed for 6 and just sat and watched all the birds.

"Most memorable"

10.0

This entire stay was magical!!! We stayed here one night but our overall experience has been so beautiful it's difficult to express in words. From the moment we were welcomed to the briefing on property and our stay.. the rooms were out of the world. Every corner of this property was so beautiful. There were indoor games too and Francis one of the staff member there played with us. His effervescent smile and charm simply won our hearts. Each staff was smiling and so helpful. Food was a bit expensive and menu limited for lunch and dinner. But that did not bother us a bit. Breakfast was simply amazing! Every so healthy and all organic! We would surely visit again! This is close to both Elephant junction and Periyar reserve which is barely a walking distance. Therefore great for sightseeing as well.

"Best Place to unwind"

10.0

We chose Spice Village – CGH Earth for our honeymoon, and it turned out to be the best decision we could’ve made! Nestled in nature, the property offers a serene and beautiful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The hospitality was truly heartwarming — every staff member made us feel special and cared for. And the food? Absolutely delicious, with every meal being a delightful experience in itself. If you’re looking for a peaceful, rejuvenating getaway, Spice Village was the perfect choice. Highly recommend it!

"Ecological themed hotel that has lots to do"

8.0

We were greeted warmly and immediately felt comfortable at the Spice Village, thanks to checking in with Rahul. Our bags took a while to arrive at our room though as the wrong number was written on the tags, so we had to chase their delivery. The whole hotel has a strong ecological theme, with solar panels for power, water recycling plant, recycling of hotel waste and a vegetable and spice garden to name a few initiatives that the hotel undertakes to protect the environment. We stayed in a comfortable bungalow, thatched in the style of the local tribal people, with chairs and a sofa, plus chairs on a veranda so you sit or outside the room. There was no air conditioning but there was a very good fan, and the room was always cool. Lighting is very subdued in the room, so looking for things at night can sometimes be a little awkward unless you have a torch to help you out. Umbrellas are provided. We had good Wi-Fi (but no more than three devices to a room which is a little churlish in this day and age with people having multiple mobile phones/laptops/tablets), a safe, tea and coffee making facilities and fridge. We ran out of tea at one stage and Reception were happy to deliver more. There was a mixture of power sockets minimising the need for adaptors. The bathroom was good with shower and good-sized sink. The Spice Village offers a variety of activities including a Pepper Vine Walk that covers the nature inspired grounds and the ecological initiatives of the Spice Village, cookery demonstrations, a spa that my wife went to and said was very good, pool and a dance show, the latter is very good. There is a lot of birdlife, two species of monkeys and squirrels that we regularly saw in the grounds as well. You need to be vigilant to make sure the monkeys don’t get in the room. There is also a shop on site, and more on the street directly outside the hotel. The bar onsite has a heritage feel with an antique snooker table and a wide range of beverages but plays loud rock music that isn’t really in keeping with the surroundings. The café next door does a good light lunch and the lawn that it faces also does an excellent afternoon tea with a variety of savoury snacks. Service is very attentive. The Tamarind Restaurant where the evening meals are served is very good, excellent dishes, good service and a nice open-air setting, the only downside was being asked to do questionnaires during our meal which was a little presumptuous and taken for granted we wanted to do them. Breakfast was also served here in a buffet format, with lots of choice and good service. Check out was smooth and efficient but yet another questionnaire had to be filled out. Overall, we really enjoyed the ethos and setting of the Spice Village and would recommend it as a base to explore the area.

"Wonderful resort/Highly recommend"

10.0

What a nice relaxing and beautiful hotel. The food and service was amazing! The authentic rooms are charming and comfortable. The staff that works at the resort really can’t be beat. Asley is one of the naturalists at the resort. He pointed out many different bird species, plants, monkeys and this cute little guy. A special shout out to Ranju who helped make my experience even more special. She made sure every detail during my stay was taken care of at the resort. This is a great resort conveniently located to all of the popular sites but once you enter the hotel you immediately feel very relaxed. There are lots of activities at the hotel. I even made my own paper

"Don’t let them direct you to the Kalpavanam Elephant Park."

6.0

Pros: * the bar is very smart. * comfortable rooms. * well positioned to visit the likes of the Mullaperiyar Reservoir and Kalaripayattu show. * it’s well worth taking a stroll down the nearby high street. * the restaurants are reasonable though we have had better food and service elsewhere on our tour round Kerala. Cons: * no air conditioning. You can live with the fan in the room but only just. * we asked reception to arrange a trip to be close to local elephants. Despite being reminded twice, they didn’t book us any transport and we were told to buy our own tickets when we got there. Downright disgraces: * we have been on several ethical nature/animal tours over the years, including in Kerala and expected similar given the reputation that CGH Earth are trying to cultivate. However, this hotel directing us to Kalpavanam Elephant Park to witness how the animals are treated there is about as close to the opposite of responsible travel experiences that you can have. I’ve knocked one star off this review based solely on their association with this park.

"The finest “CGH” experience"

10.0

Thekkady, is a lush plantation town and is the perfect getaway if you are looking for dense evergreen forest & grasslands, and *CGH Spice Village* fits right in. The property garners appreciation for its immaculate landscaping and beautifully curated rooms, set amidst nature. It boasts home to a large variety of trees, herbs, spices and fresh organic garden. And for all the bird watchers/ bird lovers, it ll be a treat to our eyes and ears to wake upto the birds chirping. A walk around the property calms your whole system. Added on, they have an amazing pool, recreation room, adventure club to keep us completely engaged during our stay. Spice Village also has 2 restaurants that offer Excellent food and a great ambiance with live music and traditional dance performance. The food is a broad curated spread, much to anyone’s liking! The staff were extremely friendly and attended to all our needs. We would like to express our gratitude to *Ms. Devika (Regional head) & Mr. Dinesh (sales head)* for making our stay a truly memorable one & to have suggested us this spectacular property. Also, Special mention abt *Mr. Deepu Sasi, GM*,who made us feel ourselves in his naturalist journey & loving hospitality by his team and *Ms. Alka*, who inspired not just our children but the whole bunch of kids staying at that time.. She kindled a sense of interest towards the insects, birds, animals and our Mother Nature.
