The staff, from those at check in to those in the dining room, were both unfriendly, dour and indifferent. The only helpful and courteous member of staff was the lobby doorman. Parking is almost nonexistent. We had to park overnight at Wegener Galleria which cost us 26 euros....ridiculous. The carpeting in the dining room as well as our room was filthy and in desperate need of replacement. Even the sofa and chairs in our room were stained and shabby. In general the hotel is missing a soul. It has potential to be something special but it’s not well maintained and it feels uncared for.

Chose this hotel due to having it's own spa and indoor/outdoor thermal pool. Wonderful to come after a long day and be able to go to spa until 11 PM. Location is very central and could not have been better.

"Beautiful hotel with spa onsite "

10.0

Great hotel with historic charm, but updated rooms. The WiFi was terrible in our room though. Having the spa and pools in the hotel was a big perk, but it’s also a quick walk to the restaurants, museums, and spas in town. The staff was also incredibly helpful and accommodated our late checkout. Don’t pass on the candy at the front desk- it’s really good! Only thing that bothered me was a black jockey figure tucked back by the pools. They’re offensive and make black guests feel less comfortable. It looked like they were trying to hide it, but why not just stick it in a basement out of the public view?

At check in, after finally finding our reservation, we were not told breakfast was included. It was not on our Expedia reservation so we did not know. At check out, we were told our €150 per night was really €99 for the room and €51 for the breakfast each day (that we didn’t eat because we didn’t know it was included). We would have enjoyed the breakfast if we knew it was included. Instead, we walked to town to get breakfast each day.

We stayed in the part of the hotel that was once a monastery. Everything was new and modern. Only hint of the old times was an occasional floor board (under new, quality carpet) creaking, I am OK with that 100%. Outside high temp was around 70 F, and a little too warm inside sometimes. AC would have been nice, but I overheard someone say it has to be turned on for the entire building, cannot have heat vs. AC determined in each room. No AC vents, so if I heard correctly, the suggests chilled water. Not sure. Steam room not working while we were there, but sauna, cold water foot baths (could not seem to get hot water foot baths working), and 'brine grotto' were all fine. Near the sauna were a regular shower and a strong cold water shower. I like to heat up in the sauna and then gasp in the cold water shower, then do it again. Awesome! US visitors should be aware no swimsuits is standard in German saunas. For everyone. Not an issue over there. Reprogram your brain if needed so you are cool with local customs. Do sit on your towel. Very important. Regular indoor pool big enough for lap swimming. 104 lengths == 1600 m. Watch out for ignorant kids swimming in front of you. Geo thermal pool is comfortably warm. Parking garage is tight by US standards, but comfortable, modern and clean by EU standards. We had no problem parking at any time during the week, but the lot looked full when we pulled out for touristing Easter Sunday morning. By our return that evening, lots of spaces open.
