"we will be back"

8.0

This is not a travellodge any more, new owners. was closed for awhile, but now re-opened. We stayed five nights, the room was clean, beds were comfortable. For the price it was a great deal. You didn't have all the bells and whistles you have with a expensive motel, but it was well worth doing without it. Will be back next year.

"Basic, but everything we needed and at a great price!"

8.0

We recently stayed at this hotel when we were in town for college basketball's "Final Four". We only picked this hotel because everything downtown was already booked and this was the closest we could get to the downtown area. Before arriving, we were extremely disappointed to be staying so far away and at a 2 star hotel, but I'm happy to say we were very pleasantly surprised! The hotel is only a straight road and about 8 miles from downtown so it's impossible to get lost if you are driving and about $15 to get there in a taxi. It is right off the highway so it is accessible but also very quiet. The room was very basic but everything we needed in the circumstances and a great price. (Unlike other hotels in town, they didn't increast their prices for the high demand that weekend). Very clean and a great staff who were very accommodating to all our requests, including putting a fridge and microwave in our room. The hotel provides free wireless internet (which is more than you get in a lot of 4 or 5 star hotels) and there are lots of conveniences nearby as it shares a parking lot with Taco Bell, Subway and Denny's, and Bob Evans, Red Lobster and a CVS drug store are across the street. If you are looking for a no frills place to stay, this hotel is what you are looking for.

"Great room for the money"

This was a great room for hotel for a one night stay. The bed was a little hard and definitely bring your own pillow. It had a microwave and refrig. That was a plus.

"Gross....."

4.0

When I opened the door to the room when I got there, and it smelt musty, like the room had been flooded and hadn't been used in months. The room was clean....until I went to take a shower and found one long black curly hair on the wall of the shower and two others by the faucet. I'd have to say the smell was the absolute worst part of the room. Also, when I went to check out the next morning, I rang the bell at the desk twice, stuck my head through the window and said "Hellooo?" and no one still came. I walked around the side of the building where I'd saw a maid cleaning a room, and asked her if there was anyone at the desk, and she said that there was. I told her that I rang the bell a few times and called for someone and no one came. She said sternly that there was someone there, and pointed to where the office was, and made it seem like it was my fault and I was stupid. I told her, yes, I went to that office and found no one. She walked up there with me and I waited while she looked and called for the woman running the front desk, and she couldn't find her either. The woman ended up coming out of a closet or whatever the door behind the front desk was (it was dark in there) and she sounded gruff, like she'd been sleeping. The door had been cracked and the maid had knocked on that door, and called in there. THe bed was bouncy, so it wasn't as stiff as most beds, so that was nice, and i liked the large vanity sink and TV channels, but I would not stay at this hotel again.

"Once Bitten, Twice Shy"

2.0

I booked a room at Travelodge South while planning to attend GenCon. I liked the price and the location (only a short trip to downtown Indy). I read the negative reviews and figured, "I don't need anything fancy. I just need a place to sleep." Boy, have my views changed! Within five minutes of checking in, I was sitting at the desk in the room in front of my laptop. I felt something on my leg. I brushed it, but then soon felt something else. I looked down but didn't see anything, so continued surfing the internet. Again I felt something on both legs, so I got up and went into the light of the bathroom. Fleas were jumping like crazy from the carpet onto the white of my socks. Not one flea. Not two fleas. A lot of fleas. I went to the front desk in disbelief. I told the clerk on duty and we both went back to the room. The minute I walked back into the room, the fleas attacked again. I showed the clerk the small, black creatures moving on my white socks. He only muttered something about guests sneaking dogs in. I wanted to leave, but felt stuck, since GenCon was just beginning. I was sure that hotels were at a premium. I did get a new room of course. I didn't have any major problems with the new room, but was plagued by itching the rest of my stay from the bites on my ankles and fear of further parasitic infestations. The second room was passably clean - no fleas as far as I could tell. I'm sure the clerk was right. The fleas came from a dog someone had sneaked in. But that wasn't my fault. Those fleas had to have been there for a while to have multiplied that much. Anyone going into that room could not have overlooked their presence. An apology would have been nice, but I received none. Travelodge is out of consideration for any further stays by me.

"Good room, good stay, good location"

8.0

I was concerned because some have reported this motel as not acceptable. Not me! I found it to be perfectly good -- no complaints ... not one. It's not a Four Seasons nor a Hyatt Regency but if you need a comfortable bed, a clean room, everything working and a good location, this is the room for you. The price was ridiculously low. The Indy Bus (city bus line #22) stops right across the street. I was attending a conference downtown at the Indiana Convention Center and the bus took me almost door to door for 85 cents each way(senior rates, others pay double). The trip took about 30 minutes and the buses run about every 30 minutes. It felt good to use and support public transportation and to see a bit of the city while someone else did the driving (taxi fare is about $17 one way). There are quite a few restaurants right close to this Travelodge -- some within crawling distance! Denny's, Bob Evans, Taco Bell, a buffet and more. A CVS pharmacy is right across the street. A laundromat is but a very short drive away and I-465 is very close too. All that and the room was perfectly quiet as regards outside noise. There were plenty of towels, soap and TP. The bathroom was clean and the water flow superior. The TV worked just fine. Why anyone pans this place is beyond me, unless they expected "a room with a view", butler service and a personal maid with that silly "turn down" service. If you want to save some $$ and get a good nights sleep -- you've found the place.
