Playacar Palace - All Inclusive

I booked Playacar Palace for a holiday based on the reviews on Trip Advisor and to say we were extremely disappointed is an understatement. Playacar Palace is nowhere near 5 star standard. We booked a Superior Deluxe Room with Sea View. We stayed in room 328. Room was very noisy. Fans for hotel were located on floor just outside our room and there was a constant humming noise which made it difficult to sleep. Hotel is tired and dated. Pool needed to be cleaned - grout blackened and tiles missing - photo attached. Beach is non existent. We thought hotel was located on nice small beach however red flags were up most days as covered in seaweed and the smell was very unpleasant at times - photo attached. Several weddings were held during our stay. On these days it was not possible to use balcony as music was blaring and wedding guests were partying right outside our balcony. The worst part of the holiday was yet to come- on Friday evening at the end of the first week we decided to eat at the buffet. I had fish and while eating it I remarked to my husband that there was an unusual taste from it. I thought that maybe it was just a fish that I had not eaten previously. Within an hour or so I began to feel really nauseous and went back to our room. Within half an hour I started vomiting and had really bad cramps. This continued all day Saturday and into Sunday at which stage my husband went to reception to get a doctor. A doctor came to room and prescribed medication. The second week of holiday was completely ruined as I could not eat or drink and felt so unwell. We made a complaint before leaving hotel however at checkout no apology was given and we were charged €100 for doctor coming to room which I felt should at least have been covered by the hotel given the fact that I got the food poisoning there. We did not eat or drink anywhere outside the hotel. The day we were checking out we were given a late check out, an extra 4 hours, as a goodwill gesture!! (Big deal after ruining our holiday) We were so disappointed with this hotel and really felt cheated. I emailed the Palace Group on returning home to make a complaint. I felt that we should be in some way partially compensated for our holiday ruined. We were offered two free massages 🤣🤣 I can say for definite we will NEVER return to this hotel again. In my opinion it is a 2 or 3 star max.

Dinner at Madremia tonight was excellent. Service, cocktails, and food presentation were wonderful. We were especially pleased with the hospitality provided by Fernando and his coworkers. Additionally every morning we have had breakfast outside at Cafe Del Mar. Roberto has been our server each morning. He’s been a welcoming face each day and very attentive. We even enjoyed learning a little about the Mayan culture from him. We have also eaten at Momo’s twice. Our server’s name escapes me but I will add it if I remember. We are there at the tepanyaki and à la carte. Both experiences were wonderful.

Our server was Deicer who was efficient and funny throughout the service. Great communications skills makes me feel like I’m having dinner at home. The whole operation at Madre Mia tonight was well organized. We inquired about previous employees that we’ve worked with throughout the years and got the full story on everyone which was nice because it did feel like coming home to family.

Amazing experience! Excellent location, delicious food, lots of shows and entertainment and the staff is amazing. Special shoutout to the playroom staff Martha Odette and Yarell, they were kind and fun and the kids loved them. Will be returning as soon as we can!

Ricordo, manager of the Italian Restaurant at Playacar Palace invited us to a special Romantic dinner on the Terrace for our last night of our stay. It was so kind and delicious! Our waiter Fabion was fantastic and said they want all their guests to feel special. Chefs Leonel and Edwin prepared an excellent four course dinner of pear and brie salad, cauliflower crema soup, surf and turf, finished with an amazing caramel lava cake with ice cream and fruit. We also had a very nice red Zinfandel wine from the Puglia Italy region - an area we plan on visiting and staying at a Palace Resorts property. This dinner was a highlight of our stay at Playacar Palace. Thank you so much for your kindness and talent.

Always have a great time when we come here! The staff is awesome!! Sylvia, Perla, Daniela, And, Pamela are all great while serving us at the pool remember our drinks and always checking up on us! Manuela, David and, Israel are awesome at the buffet! The pool concierge, Ignacio and Marvin always says hi and strives to help whenever they see you carrying towels or not shaded from the umbrella. Even the lifeguard Ignacio is very personable.

Momo’s at Playacar is the best in food and service! Our server Abner was so kind and attentive!

The restaurant Madre Mia in Playacar Palace is one of the best I've been. Food is delicious, chef Santos and his staff are amazing. And waiters are super nice!!!

Israel really looked after us in the restaurant.
