St James Hotel; BW Premier Collection

We have stayed at St. James Hotel many times and never had an issue, however the hotel is going through significant renovations, which we didn’t know about.. I don’t blame the hotel, but would of expected Booking.com to inform us of this.

As above Booking.com should of informed us of the renovations.. very disappointing.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

When I arrived I found it was being refurbished and there was no catering. I had not been emailed about this. There was plastic all over the carpets and wheelybins, and building equipment everywhere. The room was shabby, with cracked plastic surfaces and stained chairs and carpets. However, the worst thing was the bed was very hard and lumpy (and I like a very firm bed!). It was so uncomfortable that I had to sleep on my back rather than on my side as it hurt my hips to lie on my side. I slept very badly which affected my whole trip. The stains and mess I could deal with, but a hotel has to have a decent bed.

Loved the staff and room. Great location for the centre of Nottingham and right near the castle too. Never got to try the food as the restaurant was being renovated but there was an offer for food down the road instead.

Since it was being made over, the lobby smelt like paint, and there was some construction work going on as well. The floors were covered in plastic sheeting - hopefully next time the make over will be complete.

Room was lovely and cosy.

The lift!!!! Very creaky and slow!! Doors took forever to open

Room was run down. Toilet seat had to be held up, some of the woodwork in the room needed replacing, carpet stained. Hotel in the middle of renovations so a building site but this will change.

I really enjoyed my stay at this upperclass hotel

Refurbishment going on throughout the building so no breakfast options when we stayed, but obviously that is temporary

There was no breakfast as the restaurant is under renovation, the lift was dark and dirty! And there was a strange electrical fishy smell in the bathroom which I did tell the house cleaning woman about in the morning
