"Exceptional and authentic experience"

10.0

I arrived at the Hacienda Temozon with a bit of concern after reading several mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. I am happy to write that our stay here was wonderful beyond our expectations. We stayed in a king suite which was formerly the carpenter’s studio on the working hacienda. The rooms feel vast due to the soaring ceilings and large wooden doors. I loved that this place is not overly polished and sleek like many resorts on the Yucatán. We have stayed at Chable Chochola and Maroma, and at Rosewood Mayakoba and Banyan Tree. We loved each of them for different reasons but none gives the feeling of rolling back time that we got at Temozon. The staff are incredibly helpful. Most spoke broken English so it was hard to communicate at times but their desire to please was clear. The kitchen is outstanding, specializing in authentic Mayan cuisine. We took a cooking class and learned that tortillas are made from scratch…from grinding the corn into flour, then hand shaping and cooking on an open fire. The cochinita pibil, a Mayan traditional dish of pork marinated in spices and roasted in a wood-heated pit was exceptional. Where else can you find this dish prepared as it was in Mayan times? I recommend Hacienda Temozon to anyone who enjoys history, tradition, fine cuisine, sincere hospitality, and an authentic experience.

"Wonderful Staff"

10.0

In February, my husband and I spent several days at the Hacienda Temozon. We loved sitting on our terrace and relaxing. The staff was very accessible and helpful. The real highlight for us was the outstanding food. The meals were just great. We enjoyed meeting Rosura, one of the excellent chefs. Recently, I contacted Santiago Tapia, the resident manager. I wanted to talk with Rosi regarding her flan recipe. Santiago was extremely helpful and scheduled a conference call with Rosi. She patiently explained the ingredients and steps. Santiago clarified my questions and translated. As promised, the next day he sent me the recipe and preparation photos. I greatly appreciated the willingness of the Hacienda Temozon team to share with me their recipe. Thank you very much again.

"Disappointing."

6.0

This review is basically for the property itself as the staff works hard and is trying. Calling itself “luxury” is a stretch. If you want the vibe go for a meal and view of the pool… tho it’s not exactly the easiest place to get to. The road off the highway is rough and full of potholes. The restaurant is good however and the staff is friendly. The pork tacos are delicious. The place tho is odd. I’m not sure about the other Haciendas but this one could use a LOT of TLC. There are so many open spaces they could make way more interesting with landscaping, seating areas, and at minimum some lightening. There are a ton of very old areas… unused, and that’s really the only thing to do to walk around and wonder what is all this old stuff for? But no context is offered, no history, unless you do the tour. It’s frankly quite bizarre. If you want to completely disappear and feel a little rustic, and know you basically have your room, the restaurant facing the pool, and seating area facing big empty entrance to hang at - than ok, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it tranquil and definitely not luxurious. The pool was dirty on one side, I never Saw one person in it, the hot tub was not hot, and we tried to walk to the secret cenote but there wasn’t signage and ended up in a loop back to hotel. The spa service was top notch, absolutely 5*, thank you Fatima! It was in a room not in the cenote that gets advertised, as we were told right now there can be lots of bugs and even rats! The bedroom suite was huge with a hammock and an outside bath they filled for us that was lovely, the living room was pretty barren, they can use some art. The bed is comfortable I slept great. Room very clean and fresh flowers daily. If you have kids please for the love of God don’t come here. I cannot imagine how you would survive. We saw so many kids and cannot imagine what they possibly do with them at this property. If you are a writer and just need to go hide and write for a few days in the jungle then this could work. Otherwise I would not recommend. I’m Pretty open and flexible and have stayed many places… I just can’t in good conscience tell people to go to this particular Hacienda unless it’s for a specific reason.

"A beautiful place to have lunch"

4.0

We stayed 2 nights at the Hacienda that is 45 minutes outside of Merida, down an unpaved road. It’s a beautiful building , but has hardly any wifi service. The swimming pool is cold, and the help is not real helpful. I was very disappointed. For the price, it was not worth it. I suggest just going to lunch there and see the hacienda and go swim in their cenote. Don’t bother spending your money to stay over night.

La Hacienda es un lugar hermoso, el personal es muy servicial y amable. El único punto malo es que el servicio es muy lento o en ocasiones inexistente.

It is a wonderful place. However, it needs some time of entertainment at night. Example: Guitar player or something.

La arquitectura e historia de la Hacienda, el servicio y la belleza del lugar, sin duda una de las mas hermosas haciendas de la peninsula de Yucatán
