"The Cold War isnt over."

2.0

I have just returned from Kiev and this hotel was my residence whilst there. I will firstly give you the positives as there are a two. Its location is pretty decent as its adjacent to Independence Square which is a kind of a central location. And the shower in my room was pretty powerful and hot. I am old enough to remember a visit to East Berlin in the 80's on the other side of the Berlin Wall. When I ettered this hotel I thought I had time warped back to the Cold War. I entered this very dark and cold building with dated rigid furniture. It was heated by a few old style electric heaters attached to the ceiling. Reception was very clinical, "You are in this room, you must pay the tourist tax and breakfast is at seven o clock". No smiles, no greetings, in fact I did not see one person smile at this hotel. It was a solemn place. I was staying on the 8th floor and as I departed the lift on that floor I noted the smell of rotten fruit, this smell remained. The carpets and walls very very dated, red and blue. My room was also dated. It had no kettle nor fridge and a lump of a TV with poor reception. Worst of all it was freezing cold as the radiotor needed bleeding and only got warm, not hot in the top corner. The air con heater was not hot at top temperature and at night I had to sleep with my winter coat over my blanket. At least if Id had a fridge I could have left its door open to warm the room up. Breakfast was acceptable but not that hot and at breakfast or in the cafe I did not see any other guests. Staff did not really want to help you. I had a wonderful day at Chernobyl but this hotel really formed my opinion of Kiev. Its a cold, sterile dated and in my opinion, unpleasanr place to stay. Shop around in Kiev.

"Words can’t describe "

This place is awful absolutely filthy the rooms are ramshackle the bedding old and frayed the bathrooms are from even before soviet days or so they appeared. Balconies in our room was just scary and unsafe the windows were not soundproof and given its location you could hear everything - the breakfast was just disgusting I mean so awful we couldn’t face it after day 1 again one coffee machine that kept breaking down I was with my Ukrainian friend and she was horrified - the reception was tired the furniture ancient and I don’t mean antique. The staff unhappy intimidating and just unhelpful. What a error of mine choosing a 4 star for location this place is seriously wrong and needs a complete overhaul from staff to rooms to menu to frontage - shame it could have been so much better. This place is an albatross and should be closed for health reasons and would be anywhere else in Europe.

This is a Soviet era hotel located a short walk from the Dnieper river and at the end of Kreshchatic Street which is the Main Street. The hotel is 100m from the Khreshchatyk metro station. The hotel has wide hallways and smallish but comfortable rooms. The breakfast is very good with a large automatic espresso/cappuccino machine. Staff is very helpful and english is understood well. Hotel has a spa and gentleman club on second floor. This hotel had a lot of character and would stay again due to the cleanliness and convenience.

This was our 5th or 6th stay at this hotel. Though the location is wonderful, the maintenance deteriorates each visit. Our air conditioner did not work in either June or October. Repeated requests to fix it were unresolved. The continuing rise in the per room rate will force is to look elsewhere next trip

it was like stepping back to 1979, this hotel is badly needing a renovation, TV in the hotel was about 15 maybe 20 years old and was passed it !, it was not a modern bright hotel rather the opposite, very dull unapealling, and certainly not modern,

Well what a wonderful authentic Eastern European hotel situated in the centre of the city. Mostly English speaking on reception and the room was spacious but the bed a little low. The breakfast was hot buffet style with everything you needed and entertained by piano player. Location for restaurants, bars , metro and major sites all within easy walking distance.

You will be disappointed. This hotel is below the standards of even being allowed to open. Very dirty, very depressing, very old and dirty sheet. The photos are fake, if you do ignore this review and stay, you will ruin your vacation.
