Tanjong Jara Resort

Back here for the second time, almost a year later, to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The last time I left a review, Mr. Ong replied, “Don’t wait a year to come again” and I actually did! This stay was even more amazing, with a wonderful upgrade to the Anjung Room. The staff are exceptionally polite and always go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Great food, a clean beach, and superb service, it’s the kind of place I could return to again and again.

A very special Malay beachside resort. The Serambi rooms were spacious with a large veranda overlooking the beach. The beach, family and adults only pools were wonderful. The gym had all the equipment needed. The three restaurants served an outstanding variety and quality of Malay and foods of other origins. To add to the variety on a couple of nights different options were provided including a market dinner on the lawns overlooking the beach and canapes and drinks on the beach. But the most attractive feature of this resort was the extraordinary level of service. Everywhere you went, staff greeted you warmly and within a day knew your names. Nothing was too much bother for them and they did all they could to ensure we had the most wonderful time at Tanjong Jara.

The staff are amazing, ALL staff, absolutely everyone! Beautiful hotel, amazing finishing touches, e.g healing balm for bits, biscuits in room, water topped up in the evening, staff by pool make sure towels are ready, iced water topped up around the pool and beach, lovely morning excise sessions with amazing ladies. Rooms lovely, pools great and food is always so good too! Can’t recommend enough 😀

Our stay at the resort was really oustanding, starting from the complimentary upgrade for The House of Terengganu villa and its private pool, in lieu of our booked Serambi room: we indeed appreciated this kind offer on a day by day basis and its overall privacy aside of the jungle 😀. The Resort lies in the middle of a real jungle, close to a beautiful and calm beach where every morning we had the opportunity to walk, swim and rest on the loungers, served with towels and refreshment service. The quality and the selection and variety of food were really good, counting on several proposals, not only malaysian, but also asian and even western. Cleanliness at top level. Everything was perfect and everyone made all possible efforts to drive our holiday a real one! We felt pampered at all times: you all made possible our dream and we thank you all! In particular, we want to mention and thank Amira, Radz, Afiq , Syazwand and Siti(from the reception) for their attentions and sympathy, Maz, Jazz, the restaurant manager and Chef Ann from the restaurants for their cheerfulness, Faiz and Shaa from the Spa, the professionaity of Syafik and Najim (Watersports/Diving) and the timeliness of Noel (guide) and Gabry (driver). A big hug from us to you all!

A great couple of days diving at Tenggol Island with the crew from Tanjong Jara Resort dive centre, with something to cater for everyone in the family. My 18 year old son did his PADI open water qualification, my husband and I did our refreshers and a day of leisure dives each, my 14 year old daughter did a day of discover scuba diving, and our 6 year old snorkelled with one of us while the other dived. We were really well looked after by Naim, our divemaster, Syafiq, who took care of my son's Open Water Qualification and dives, and Muiz, our boat crew who was generally super helpful. Towels, packed lunches (a yummy cooked lunch in bento boxes), cold drinks, as well as all transportation to the jetty and boat ride all included. Be prepared for the fairly rough South China Sea though! Compared to the also very well reviewed dive outfits in town/outside the resort, you get 2 dives a day, not 3, and it is a little pricier, but for us, the convenience of having transportation from and to the resort, the ability to tailor it to our family's varying needs, and the more relaxed atmosphere with a small group outweighed these factors. Would definitely recommend.

We were a family of 3 who stayed for a week in July. We were advised by our travel agent to come to the East Coast at this time of year and we were lucky with sunshine our whole stay. The resort is lovely, we were on a full board package so were able to relax and enjoy all the meals without worrying about prices. For us what stood out were the amazing staff from the incredible Maz who is just the most wonderful woman to all the staff. They went out of their way to look after us. the Malay evening was a highlight, trying out fabulous food and learning about history and games. They were wonderful and caring to my daughter. The pulihara turtle hatchery is run by a devoted team of volunteers and loved the excitement of watching the turtles get released during our stay. We’ve adopted a nest and enjoying following their progress since we got home. One of the main reasons for coming to Tanjong Jara was to complete our diving course. Prior to arriving Syafiq was fantastic at communicating and putting us at ease. He was incredibly patient and kind with me and my daughter. He is calm and an experienced dive master. Seeing turtles on our dives was a highlight. Cap Naim and Muiz on the boat were lovely. We enjoyed the lunch on the Tenggol island although be warned at certain times of the year the boat ride can get a bit choppy! I was surprised by how much we loved Tanjong Jara and we hope to return next year. A big thank you to the team for an incredible time.

As a family of 3, we stayed for 5 nights as part of a 3 week adventure around Malaysia/Singapore. I was encouraged to look at the East Coast as opposed to Langkawi by a travel agent. I was concerned we may have made the wrong decision as we had a long travel day getting to Tanjong Jara from Penang as there are no direct flights and had to therefore take a couple of internal flights and a road transfer of around an hour. However, I did not regret our decision at all. We wanted a peaceful resort with a good pool, great food and a beautiful setting. Tanjong Jara delivered all that. The beach is stunning although we did not swim in the sea due to jellyfish. Not a problem though with 2 great pools. My daughter had wanted to come here because of the sea turtle charity Pulihara which has a small outpost & hatchery at the resort and was hoping for a baby turtle release. I would definitely recommend going along to Pulihara - run by students they were so engaging and informative. We were incredibly lucky that on our last night, a set had hatched and we were able to watch them being released into the ocean - all 94 of them! A highlight of our holiday. What makes this resort however is the staff - all were brilliant and made us so welcome. Chef Ann is a legend! Watch out for her on her bike round the resort!! All the food was great - we ate twice at Nelayan - fabulous fish on the beach. We loved this resort and would definitely have stayed longer!

Surrounder with tall palm trees, they offers a peaceful and rejuvenating atmosphere. Spacious room with beautiful wooded interiors. The staff are very warm and polite also their service is top notch.

I'm writing this review during my final night of my 4D3N stay with family. The arrangements by Mr. Ong is always commendable since I know him from YTL Pangkor Laut Resort. The purpose of my family trip is for my wife birthday celebrations. The team under Mr. Ong leadership has done another great job! Mr. Terrence with the team Mimi and Ika go extra miles decorating my room to surprise my wife and sons! Also, Ms. Yanna from Di Atas Sungei Restaurant shows great care for my kids with dinner arrangements in the room when she noticed my kids sleeping during dinner time after spending time at the sea and pool :-)

I would say this resort is the best resort I’ve stayed so far in my life. Love the uniqueness and the malay heritage style of this resort. All the staffs are very friendly and the service was superb. The beach oh my god my favourite place. It is super clean and feels like you are facing a beautiful painting in front of you
