Tanjong Jara Resort

In most ways a five star stay: lovely, helpful staff, a beautiful pool and nice grounds, a lovely breakfast and chance to learn about turtle conservation. The detractions for us were a) lack of sound proofing in the room, which meant we heard children running about upstairs and also very loudly in the adjoining room next door. And b) food prices which felt a bit excessive, even for a resort. We ended up walking 15 minutes to a nearby local restaurant (C B Wee) and had a delicious meal. On another night we got a Grab into Kuala Dungan and had a lovely meal there. That said, the above certainly didn't spoil our stay and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Fantastic hotel, so relaxing and with great facilities but a real gem of the hotel is its staff! What a wonderful people. I am sorry I can’t remember everyone’s name ( I should have written all down but I didn’t) , but each and everyone there is so so special, hard working , genuinely nice and amazing! Special thank you to the lady who looked after us on breakfasts at the terrace, swimming pool staff, reception staff and the guys who ring the gong, take care of your luggage, drive you around and do all other things while still happy to have a nice chat with you 😊. spa centre was great and staff was so friendly and professional. Breakfasts were so nice- great selection of local and international options. All the grounds are spotless and so nicely kept. Our apartment was fantastic and always cleaned to a high standard. Now very very special applause to the scuba centre guys- we made a few diving trips with them. Fantastic people-Syafiq - you are the best! So genuinely nice and attentive, yet professional! Also thank you to Haiqal, Naim, Muiz and Iwan from the boat-we had the best experience. We would love to come back to the hotel and hopefully we’ll manage to do so. It was fantastic 10 days.

The excellent service provided from the moment i set my foot at their lobby. It was a whole new experience for me. Enjoy their water sport activity (diving) the most. It was lead my Mr Syafiq throughout our dive. And not forgetting the members Haiqal, Naim and Irwan too.

We travelled here in April 2025 with Voyage Prive holidays. It was part of a package, flying with Emirates and staying in Stripes Hotel, Kuala Lumpur for 3 nights and then travelling over to this sister hotel for 8 nights. The transfer by luxury minibus took the best part of 5 hours with a comfort break half way. It's a very quiet resort with a beautiful beach and pool area to enjoy. Not surprisingly, it's hot here and on occasions humid with the odd thunder shower to clear the air. It's a great place to relax if that's what you're looking for. Our welcome here was very warm and sincere. The recurring theme here is that staff were so friendly, helpful and customer focused. The hotel complex is very pleasant but in my humble opinion, it's seen much better days. The hotel was opened about 1981 and photographs of the place show it as absolute paradise. The reality is not so perfect. The gardens were not impressive and the room we had (1102) was spacious, comfortable and quite well stocked but floorboards and doors had gone out of shape with the heat and age. Mosquitoes were an issue here and got into the room easily. Sprays are provided but I do suggest you take plug in repellents. Malaysia of course, is the standard G type plug, the same as the UK. Breakfast was a variety of different things, in a pleasant dining room. The staff here were polite, helpful and Maz in particular, was a pleasure to see each morning. She was so cheerful and helpful. Amira on reception always made a point of greeting guests and it was nice that they knew our names, showing genuine interest in people. We enjoyed the complimentary spa treatment. The spa staff are very polite and good at what they do. The pool/beach attendants are very good. They are around the beach and pool, ensuring that you get water and will bring you food if you want it. Shivram was on pool/beach duty for the week we were there and is a credit to the hotel. The board basis was Bed & Breakfast but lunch and dinner were a bit limited. The Nelayan restaurant is beautifully situated by the beach and pool area but it was disappointing. It was lacking any sort of panache for the prices they were charging. Sadly, I don't share the gushy opinions in some reviews. Some of the dishes they served, were really nothing special or not worth the wait. Happy hour was 5-7pm to get alcoholic drinks at a more realistic price. Tripadvisor came to our rescue and nearby, we found C B Wee restaurant. It's a proper shack on the main road but the chinese food was great. We ate there most evenings at a fraction of the price. I ensured that my phone had the GRAB app set up as this is the local private hire app for many countries, including Malaysia. Sadly, we didn't get the full 8 nights here. The transfer back to Kuala Lumpur leaves at 1am and the return journey was a bit tedious. Ikhmal was very helpful when we checked out, ensuring we had food and water for the journey. We really enjoyed it here but it's seen better days.

We recently had a memorable stay at Tanjung Jara Resort and would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Ong for all the thoughtful arrangements. His assistance made our entire trip smooth and enjoyable from the very start. The spa experience was a standout highlight — incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. Honestly, it was so good that we’re already dreaming of coming back just for that alone! We were also pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Every meal was fresh, flavorful, and far exceeded our expectations for resort dining. A special mention goes to Chef Ama, whose warm presence at both Nelayan and Di Atas Sungei truly elevated our dining experience. She regularly checked in with us to ensure everything was to our satisfaction, and the restaurant staff were always attentive and friendly. Another unexpected highlight was the karaoke room, which became our go-to spot for evening fun and laughter — a fantastic way to unwind with friends. We would gladly return, especially for the warm, genuine hospitality throughout the resort.

The hotel is very tranquil and the staff are all friendly and super attentive. If you want to relax then this is the place. The hotel has the extra benefit of a few fantastic dive sites off the coast with fields of coral complimented with the matching fish.

I bought the diving retreat with this resort during diving expo! Its really worth and huge promotion. This is my second time to visit this resort and they still provided the best services and try to fullfill all the needed of me! All the staffs still friendly and the foods is nice! Kak maz and chef ann still provided the best of the best services to each of the resort’s guests! Oh ya, I had been choosen as king and queen of the day to try out their signature mandi bunga( aka traditional malay flora bath) Specially thanks for minpar’s arrangement. Lets talk about my diving experience with them. The Staffs' involved in trip that day was: - Naim-Boatman - Muiz-Snorkeling guide -Syafiq that brought you to the island. -Ken who help for arranging the booking of me with tanjong jara resort. Really good experience with the Tanjong Jara Watersport team. Syafiq sorted everything out and made the trip easy from the start. Muiz and Naim were great with our 5-year-old, who’s just starting to snorkel — they kept him interested and made it fun for all of us. Tenggol Island is stunning, and having a friendly, helpful crew made the whole day even better. Would recommend if you’re looking for a relaxed, well-run snorkelling trip. This was our second time to Tanjung Jara and we absolutely loved our stay. This time we came back for Cultural Day as recommended by Chef Maz. Staffs are very friendly and lovely, our room was comfortable and clean with a nice view of the sea

This is our 19th visit. We return not only for the beautiful surrounds but the top -tier friendly staff who always make us feel so special. The hospitality as always is top-notch.A great team led by GM. Amazing Chef Anne and Maz. Making our stay perfect Amira, Afiq and all at front desk. The resort is absolutely stunning quintessential unique. The vibe serene and laid-back, perfect for peace and tranquility. The massages were absolutely amazing - out of this world. All the therapist were skilled, , amazing and simply magic. Faizul was great too.
