Tanjong Jara Resort

Went for a short getaway trip of 3 nights 4 days from 24 Feb-27 Feb. We have been a long time regular guest at Tanjong Jara Resort simply because we enjoy the scenic ambience surrounding the resort & the magnificent view overlooking the South China Sea. Our stay this round happens to be still part of the end of the monsoon season, hence the sea was rather rough with strong winds. Nevertheless, it was a whole new experience that we truly enjoyed. I must acknowledge the commendable tip top service rendered by the Tanjong Jara team & the refurbished rooms & amenities & new facilities that greeted us upon arrival in Feb! Kudos to resort manager, Mr Ong, Amirah, Chef Ann, Chef Maz, Mukunda & the rest of the team! We always felt the warm welcome upon stepping in to the resort. We wish to thank front desk manager, Amirah, for giving us the best rooms with a seaview front, making our sleep more peaceful & restful listening to the sound of the waves. We were greeted with a personalised welcome card by the resort manager & light refreshments in the room much to our surprise. Also a cute little human figurine (made from folded towels) done by their housekeeping staff, Dino, was impressive & added a delightful touch to our stay! Thank you Mr Ong & Dino. Rooms were tastefully refurbished with major upgrades to the flooring, wood panelling, repainting, upgrades to the bathroom floor & change of tiles along the pathways leading to the reception area & brighter lighting. The new games room with karaoke facilities was another plus point, giving guests many choices of entertainment during their stay at the resort. There was also more variety in the daily activities calendar & we participated in the traditional craft making classes which was truly amazing experience, having learnt to make fishes & grasshoppers from coconut leaves. We had our meals at Di Atas Sungei (breakfast & dinner) & lunch at Nelayan. We opted for the Yakiniku Grill dinner on the last night of our stay at Teratai Bar - the selection was pleasing with fresh seafood & Australian beef grilled to perfection by their attentive staff, Mukunda, who has been serving us over the past 5 years. As it was a low peak period, breakfast was served in a semi-buffet style, with great selection to keep our tummies happy. The variety has improved from our last trip & the pastries & local kuih were delicious! The semi-buffet menu was decent enough with reasonable selection to choose from. Dinner choices at Di Atas Sungei was aplenty, the only comment was on the cooking style of the Thai style prawns which was served in skewers with young mango salad on top. Perhaps the team can review the cooking style as we felt that the presentation in skewers didnt quite make the mark for authentic cooking style. As for the lunch selection at Nelayan restaurant, would suggest the team to look at revamping the menu as most of the choices (at a glance from the menu) seem to be the same over the years. Perhaps can introduce more new dishes to add on more flavour & variety. Also, the team managing at Nelayan Restaurant needs to be more attentive to customers requests, e.g. clearing the dishes once done with their meals, provide water refills regularly. We were glad that the gym has now became available 24 hours & some refurbishment was done. Perhaps the team can look into some equipment upgrading in the future & improve the ventilation inside the gym; when there are more guests using the facilities at the same time, it can get a little stuffy. Also, please consider bringing back Movies Under the Stars at Teratai Bar. We miss this very much. The SPA treatment at spa village was awesome & the masseurs (Mar & Yohana) was attentive with good massage techniques (Malay traditional massage). Will definitely look for them again in our next trip to Tanjong Jara. The resort cleanliness & gardens was well kept & comfortable for guests at all times. Well done. We will definitely come back again to visit this beautiful resort & enjoy the beautiful beach & warm hospitality for the team! Thank you!

I would like to thank all the staff, from the porter, the F&B manager, NunNung the spa masseuse and the resident manager Mr. Ong for the excellent service that they have provided during our our stay in Tanjong Jara. We were pampered with delicious food, good conversations with polite, courteous and friendly staff and the lovely, peaceful and calm ambience in the resort. This is definitely one of the best holidays in Malaysia and we will certainy come back again.

Food was excellent and I loved the breakfast idea of a menu that you could order from. Everything we tried was great. The buffet breakfast area was good too. This hotel has a lovely layout. It feels intimate but offers space so you feel not overwhelmed by other guests. Pool was great. And the adult pool was a lovely secluded area r though this pool was chlorinated. The staff were very helpful and truly made our stay wonderful. The bedroom was clean and well laid out as was the bathroom. There was no rain but it was the end of monsoon season so too rough to swim in the sea but I would absolutely come back to enjoy the water and excursions. The main pool was one of the nicest I’ve swam in. The gym was great and had great sea views. It may not be an island resort but I much preferred our stay at Tanjong Jara.

There’s good customer care, great customer care, exceptional and then God level. Mr Ong Ley and his team are at God level. My wife and I have stayed at some incredible places but have never experienced being looked after and here’s the important words - cared for, with such warmth, sincerity and generosity. Attention to detail and a willingness to make each guest feel special and part of a well established family team shined through. Our room was amazing (Serambi Seaview) with a large open deck overlooking the ocean. Breakfasts at Di Atas Sungei were incredible, varied and tasty. The amazing Maz, Hamdan, Chris and Amira were so helpful, patient, professional and warm. You can also dine there in the evening, the wonderful food experience continues under the guidance of Chef’s Ann, Zarrow and Hadi. We also ate at the Teratai Terrace and the Nelayan restaurants, the service food and attention to detail likewise was truly excellent. The whole team at the resort were incredible sorry I can’t mention everybody but to add…Amira, Jazz, Liza, Min Par, Ravi, Nisa, Widi, Kamaroul, Iskandar and Hadil were fantastic. During the day you can relax by either pool in stunning settings. The pool team provide towels water and if requested food and drinks. Nothing is too much trouble. The beach is huge, private and not at all busy. We were there during monsoon season so not suitable to swim but great for a stroll. If you feel energetic there are tennis, pickle ball and basketball facilities which are well maintained. There is also a gym with water, towels and all the usual equipment. A separate area provides table football/ tennis and even karaoke if that’s your thing. Lots of activities can be arranged through the resort but there’s no pressure to attend if you just want to relax and unwind. The resort is in a beautiful natural setting. The spa is incredible and I’d highly recommend at least one visit. Tanjong Jara resort is a very special place with some really unique people. We left feeling refreshed, revived, calm and relaxed. We were genuinely sad to leave but feel blessed to have such a wonderful experience. Sincere thanks Ong and the Tanjong Jara team. Changing the world with smiles, love and care.

The beautiful photos on the hotel website influenced our decision to try the resort and indeed on arrival we were very impressed with the lovely lobby and reception area with its many water features. We can only assume these photos were taken many years ago as sadly the rest of the resort did not live up to this and has a very run down and neglected feel to it. Also, the website states it is one hour from the airport but it is a good 1.5+ hours, even with drivers who drive very fas The gardens are lush and have so much to offer but are in desperate need of attention, with the grass areas looking very barren. The adult pool is a very strange colour and not inviting at all. The kid friendly pool is nice enough with comfortable sun loungers but the umbrellas are too small to offer much shade. We only stayed one night in the end and ate dinner at the main breakfast/lunch/dinner restaurant. The food was delicious and chef Ann a character! We were however disappointed that there was no satay on the menu?! A Malaysian staple!? We found the terrace restaurant a very strange concept with just a handful of tables and a movie playing throughout? We would not choose to have any kind of movie playing whilst eating dinner. Our room, 1601, was spacious and the bed comfortable. However there was not enough hot water for my husband to have a bath and for me to shower at the same time. Only enough hot water for one or the other? We also had issues with the toilet flush which kept sticking.

Generally good and staff very polite but air conditioner very noisy, wife went to spa and enjoyed it.

Great resort with beautiful beach and nature. Many activities provided. Top services by staff. 2 nights stay is recommended

Beautiful hotel on good beach. It is a bit tired but still a great place to relax. Staff generally helpful & attentive. Food is pretty good overall. Biggest complaint was air con in bedroom sound like 747 on take off. No ability to change this - either on or off. Overall a good hotel but certainly not at international 5 star level.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They'd come around the pool serving water and ice lollies. We visited to celebrate our anniversary and was pleasantly surprised by the effort (no spoilers here). Not the resort's fault, but the private beach had some oil spills which were very difficult to wash off. I had to send my shoes for professional cleaning. The resort was undergoing renovation, glad to see improvements/maintenance!

I like what Ramesh did and he was helpful. Need a facelift and more upkeep. Otherwise the staff was good. People are friendly and at tentative
