Tanjong Jara Resort

My family of 4 stayed for 4 nights and had a very relaxing time. The hotel and grounds are beautifully laid out, the gardens show off Malaysia’s greenery and give the hotel period feel and charm. There are 2 high end pools, the food was great, if expensive compared to our other stays. The beach is beautiful, the gym is small, works but would benefit from some more new cardio equipment. The spa Malay massage was good and the staff were the friendliest we met in all our 4 hotels, which in Malaysia is really saying something, as almost everyone is very helpful and friendly. We would stay there again, it’s a 5 hour drive from KL, or a 1 hour flight and 90 min drive. The East coast is less developed and worth making the effort.

We travelled from KL between 4 and 6 hour transfer to be prepared. The hotel as a whole needs refurbishment. Our room was dirty, we had to clean the shelves and draws before we could unpack. Despite mentioning this on five occasions the cleanliness didn't improve. The staff are polite and smile a lot( not too sure how much they understand in English) We had numerous things go wrong / brake in the room from the phone to the safe and hot water, at one point it was almost a daily occurrence. There is plenty to do in the hotel for all ages. No decaffeinated coffee in the rooms and took a week for it to arrive at breakfast, not what you would expect from a 5 star. Water is plentiful in the rooms and dependant which beach person was on duty you maybe looked after. One exceptional chap but the others were a waste of space. The paths are very uneven so please be aware if you have sight or walking difficulties. Food at breakfast has plenty of choice. Evening meals are reasonably priced for a hotel. Food is fresh but be very aware eggs turn up in vegan food and despite saying I am allergic to pineapple this also appeared in my meal.. The hotel is out of town but a shuttle bus is available. The staff do try but there is urgency in anything.

My family and I went for a short 4d/3n break to TJR. This is our 2nd trip to TJR, and it didn't disappoint. In fact, it's improved from my last trip, where I rated it with a 4 star. We went back, because we realized that Mr Ong had moved from Pangkor Laut (PLR) to TJR, and decided to give it another try given we enjoyed Mr Ong's hospitality at PLR. Whilst Mr Ong was on leave while we were there, the changes he made were evident. The resort was in better shape, and the staff were more brilliant than before. The beach was gorgeous as always, and the turtle sanctuary by Pulihara was great. We had hoped to see the turtle release again, but unfortunately, we didn't manage to. The addition of a Games room, and the new tennis / pickle ball / futsal/basketball court were fantastic. The Saturday evening 'Kampung' event with some local games and local snacks is great fun, and shouldn't be missed. I was happy to see some familiar faces, and felt their warm hospitality again ... thank you to Liza (reception), Chef Maz, Iqmal (who got promoted since we last met), Chef Ann, etc. I'd also like to give a shout-out to some great staff who was great --> from reception - Amira, Liza and Milo (not sure if I have this right), from the restaurants / F&B (Chef Maz, Arun, Eric, Amir, Yanna, and two whose name I didn't get - an intern Chef who was usually at the egg station and the young man who was always working hard - we saw him both everyday in Di Atas Sungai, then at Nelayan ... and we also saw him tending to the pool towels, etc when we went for a swim. Last but not least, Thank You to Terence who is overseeing as RM. We will e back!

Lovely place with very comfortable accommodation, very good service and amazing food. Lots of authentic Malaysian cuisine, local to the area. Thanks to chef Ann and all the staff for your hospitality, smiles and friendliness. Young members of staff learning their trade are also excellent. We appreciate you taking care of us.

Amazing 5 nights at this beautiful beach resort . Incredible selection of delicious authentic food in 2 main restaurants and also special themed nights eg Satay . Chef Ann and her team guided us through the menus . Impressive service from all the staff in all areas from front of house , to restaurants , spa , pool . Special thanks go to Syafiq from water sports who did our scuba diver refresher / beginner courses and was incredibly patient , knowledgeable and professional . Highlight was boat trip and dive off the island . Haiqal and Muiz such great hosts on the boat trip . Excellent cookery experience led by MK and trip to local market . Massage as best I’ve ever had . Grounds stunning and full of wildlife including resident monkeys ! Great cycle trip . Every member of staff we encountered was friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome . Thanks again - it’s just a pity Malaysia is so far from the UK or we’d be back again very soon !

We had a very positive or even fantastic experience with this diving school during our trip in Malaysia! They have proven to be very flexible regarding various types of dive excursions but particular helpful waste in introducing my 13-year-old son to scuba diving! I’m diving by myself for many decades now but have rarely seen such as sorrow, professional and careful introduction to a young first time diver! Naim, who was our dive master speaks excellent English and explained calm and patiently everything to my son before entering into the water! They stand spend over an hour and a half in the pool exercising different skills and I have been very much impressed with the way he introduced him to the different tasks and how to behave underwater! Unfortunately, I have not been able to go out with them for a water Dave, but will definitely do this the next time we are visiting! I can only strongly and warmly recommend name and also would like to give a big thank you to Syafig who has organised and supervised this session!

Had a chalet with direct access to the beach which was convenient. Gym had equipment which was not maintained well. Our chalet had a lot a lot of ants which bite. The snorkelling trip from Tanjong Jara Resort Watersports was very enjoyable. We were led by Haiqal, Irwan, Naim, Muiz and Syafiq. They also lead diving trips from our conversation. We managed to see turtles and colourful fishes. Our packed lunch was very decent too. Really enjoyed the nature events, including a jungle walk and the newly opened conservation centre. Shoutout to the staff in the resort, as their hospitality was what made our stay worthwhile.

This is a lovely hotel in a quiet pristine part of the sandy coast line. The grounds are extensive and well maintained and the rooms well positioned with views over the sea and well appointed. There is a good restaurant and bar choice with excellent food and drink choices. The staff are amazing from the Manager all the way down and reception were particularly helpful. The Spa also provided an amazing service. A slight negative is both pools are a little small which limited seating and the family pool in particular could get busy. It was an amazing stay.

My wife and I celebrated our first anniversary at this beautiful resort and we couldn’t be happier! Everyone here made sure we had a comfortable stay, and that we were well fed. They catered to our dietary requirements. My wife is a vegetarian and they made sure they did what they could to ensure she had options. From the lush greenery to the beautiful sea side, this place is breathtaking. We also indulged in some activities like batik painting. We experienced the spa as well. Special thanks to the Resident Manager Mr Ong, Kak Ann, Kak Maz and the entire TJR team. We will be back in due time
