The Barn Hotel & Spa

Hotel was ok, VERY CLEAN, beds could’ve been better and whilst the room decor looked like it had seen some attention the room carpet was old and stained (but clean). Having paid for a superior room and the price I’d paid I might’ve expected this to have been of a better standard. Having said that I’d booked breakfast but then had to leave early before breakfast had started and they made us bacon / sausage rolls in a bag to take away which was GREAT. No problem at all with parking as even though there was also a wedding on at the hotel the car park had loads of spaces!! Lastly we did pop our heads in the spa and enjoyed a swim and used the sauna, steam room and hot tub - whilst not massive in size it was adequate and a great extra benefit to our stay……..

I had a fantastic spa hot lava shell massage. Unfortunately we had a long wait for food in the restaurant.

Good staff and customer service. Good breakfast both continental and full English included. Nice large lounge / library inside seating area. Good attached bar with reasonable price bar food. Only criticism is some parts could do with some attention to decor and maintenance. The floor boards in the corridor outside the bedrooms were very noisy. Fortunately it is a relatively small hotel so not too much movement of customers in the corridor. The location is outside of Grantham so a car is required. It is located on a fairly quiet “B” road and the hotel itself is set back from the road. This makes it generally quiet and pleasant. There is an outside seating area which is pleasant in good weather. Unfortunately I did not have time to try the Spa and health facilities, so can’t comment. Overall for the price it is a good location with good facilities at a reasonable price.

The first hotel room had a loud dripping tap in the sink, a broken headboard on one of the beds and windows that would not stay open. It was a hot attic room with no air conditioning. After Reporting these problems, we were given another room. We were unable to use the shower in the second room. The water went from hot to scolding, and there was no option to run cold water. We had to use the shower in the first room—not fun walking down a corridor! Upon our return in the evening, we were informed it was fixed. It was not, and the deputy manager could not get it working correctly. We were told we couldn’t move rooms but would be given a key to another room in the morning to shower. The next day, when trying to enter the room, we discovered that the room was already occupied, not fun. We were offered a third room three days into our family holiday. All fixed? No, we weren’t given enough towels to shower, and the shower dripped like a waterfall after you stopped using it, drenching the room. This leads me to the final night of sleep. At 04:30 at night, I was awoken by the shower dripping/running, which meant my wife and I had to deal with it. After drying ourselves (and the room), we tried to get some sleep. In the morning we left. Upon my return home, I sought compensation (not a full refund) for our holiday being more of a chore than a break. It was denied. The hotel has a strict no-refund policy. It is a shame they are not as rigorous regarding room standards.

Checked in, half hour later tried to have a shower - no hot water, not even luke warm! Informed reception, they had a reported broken down boiler servicing that area of hotel. Emergency plumber called out. We were offered a shower in their spa, but it was 2015 and closed at 2030, also meal had to be ordered by 2045....so we chose to eat instead as hungry. Unfortunately food was poor and not worth it. I checked status with reception and still no hot water, earliest would be tomorrow morning. The spa opened at 0800, but we had to leave 0730. Still no sign of a return in the am, so had to check out not having access to hot water for our entire stay. Not satisfactory for a hotel.

The wifi did not work throughout my stay, the pipework in the room was noisy and the breakfast mediocre

Receptionists a bit indifferent to our needs to change for a wedding before our room was available. Breakfast was like a 70 s Little Chef greasy spoons. Scrambled egg on our table before we sat down.. it was functional for the night.

I do not normally leave negative reviews as you get what you pay for most of the time, however, The person on reception when we checked in seemed completely disinterested to even be checking us in. This hotel was convenient for where we wanted to be but needs a re fresh and felt like a truck stop.

Bed had a concave sagging mattress. Room hot with only a fan opened window too loud from wedding. Fan turns off if you leave room. Shower gel in shower empty. Large hotel but put non wedding guest directly opposite wedding with open patio doors.

The corridors nearest the reception/bar/ restaurant area are in need of a redec and new carpet, rather shabby all round. Could only get bar meal, were aware restaurant wouldn't be open. Went to order food and was told the kitchen was very busy so order in 15 minutes. When ordered our food took 40 minutes to arrive. My wife asked for a cheese plougmans and got a cheese and ham. Sh'es veggie! I ordered a very nice sounding chicken curry, taste the succulent chicken - no chance, the curry heat was off the scale, couldn't taste a thing other than molten lava in my mouth! All in all not over impressed.
