Rowhill Grange Hotel & Utopia Spa

We were really pleased to be upgraded to a king room on arrival without asking – such a lovely touch and very much appreciated. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Grace on reception was especially brilliant – so helpful and genuinely warm, she is a real credit to the hotel. The grounds are lovely and peaceful, making it a very relaxing stay. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and overall it felt like great value for money.

The hotel is quite dated in places and would benefit from some updating, particularly the spa facilities. The therapy pool was only partially working in the evening and not working at all the following day, which was disappointing. The upstairs pool was also quite cold.

2 stars are for reception and restaurant staff as they were lovely. My partner had a happy birthday desert plate on arrival which was nice and we’d been upgraded to a bigger room so that was very kind! Obviously between arriving and dinner you only have a couple of hours to actually relax in the spa so we wanted to be in there for as long as we could but decided to grab a quick coffee first as we hadn’t eaten so just wanted something quick. Unfortunately this wasn’t QUICK … we were the only ones in the lounge and watched the waitress flirt with the bar staff and completely forgot about making the coffee no matter how many times she clocked us looking at her, there was still nothing. I had to ask one of the managers and he did it in the end. Spa area is always lovely to look at, pools could be warmer and we would have liked to be together in the sauna but that’s fair enough if no space. Dinner we shared the steak which was over £100 and it was tiny! And full of fat with tiny slices, definitely nowhere near £100 worth, but again the restaurant staff were so very kind. Breakfast was bog standard, just like you’d get in a travelodge but not bad. Massage was a let down unfortunately. £160 and again like previous reviews, either just a young newbie or someone who doesn’t really want to be there. There wasn’t much to the massage just very standard, the room was freezing and so was the girls hands! Then sadly during my facial, the time I’m supposed to have my head and neck massage.. she was on her PHONE!! I had one hand scratching the top of my forehead in the same place and I could hear the clicking of her phone in my ear! I was absolutely horrified tbh especially when you pay all that money. Then in the last 10 seconds she put her phone down and put both hands on my head and massaged around my earlobes then she was done so it made it very clear that she had been on it. Such a shame but never mind. All in all we spent easily over £1000 with rowhill just for 1 overnight stay that was really not worth it. There was a time the experience at rowhill was amazing! Definitely needs some changes.

We are so grateful to the wonderful team at Rowhill for making our day so very incredible. Nothing was ever too much for the wonderful team and we truly did feel like the most important people in the world on our special day. An extra huge thank you to Emilia our co-ordintaor who helped us organise everything to perfection and she is such a calming kind presence that she made the whole process a lot less stressful and definitely less scary. I have never believed when people say that your wedding day is the very best day of your life but we feel so lucky to say that for us it was and that truly wouldn’t have been able to be the case without the hard work of everyone at Rowhill. Thank you so much :)

The location is amazing. The hotel is near a field with horses which is just lovely. It’s very peaceful and relaxing. I would like to say how lovely Jade and Lilly were and a couple of others, but unfortunately I didn’t get their names. They were so friendly, and made sure our stay was as comfortable as possible.

I did feel that the hotel could do with a little upgrade. Some parts looked worn and needs attention. Another area was that the jets in the spa weren’t working so I was unable to use them. They did work on Friday but Saturday afternoon and Sunday they didn’t.

From start to finish our spa day was extremely disappointing and nowhere near the relaxing experience we expected. On arrival we were given vouchers to use for tea and coffee, but despite asking three separate times if anyone could serve us, we were ignored. In the end we had to take our drinks in takeaway cups into the spa area, which certainly didn't set the tone for a luxury experience. Unfortunately, it didn't improve from there. The hot tub was out of action and the pool areas were visibly dirty, which made it difficult to relax. As part of the twilight package a '40 minute' treatment was included and this was cut short, the treatment itself was good but felt rushed and not what we paid for. Our package included a 'two course dinner' but this was more like a light lunch. One of the 'main' options was bruschetta, which we found surprising as a main course. The other option was a chicken Caesar salad, which we were asked to pay extra for if we actually wanted the chicken added. We had to actually go for dinner on the way home after spending nearly £300 for four rubbish hours! Avoid, dated and not worth any money!
