The Esplanade Hotel

My daughters and I stayed in early Aug. The hotel is very nice, the rooms are comfortable and the indoor pool is lovely. You’re opposite Fistral Beach, the surf hire shop next door is ideal. Parking is not great, make sure you pre-book or you’re in trouble! The food at Breakfast is Ok but nothing special. The staff were excellent, very helpful, friendly and accommodating. We’d definitely go back, but only if the parking was pre-booked.

The only reason for not giving a full 5* is due to the lift being out of order for the duration of our stay. This was beyond the hotels control, and the engineers did everything possible to complete the repairs as quickly as possible (even working till 8pm each day, including the weekend). When the hotel found out I was disabled, they bent over backwards by moving rooms to the 1st floor and helping us with the luggage both on arrival and departure. Parking is tight, but we pre-booked this and had no issues. We found the hotel relaxing and extremely family friendly. The staff were approachable and could not do enough for its guests, and we could even have a laugh and joke with them, which is the complete opposite of another 4* hotel in the town. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel (despite the lift issues). It was clean, welcoming and relaxing. It was good to see so many families with children of all ages being catered for. The food in the resteraunt was excellent and prices reasonable. The only recommendation I would make is to think about raising the pool temperature by a couple of degrees. The amount of activities available for all ages, children and adults alike, was a breath of fresh air for a hotel in this day and age, with activities laid on specifically for the children and then live entertainment for adults on some evenings, including a caracatur artist. We fully intend returning again next year where we will look to give the hotel a full 5* rating as long as the lift works.

We stay here every year and the hotel definitely has our heart. We always book a sea view room as it is a worth every penny. Claudia is part of the furniture and can not do enough for you and always with a smile on her face. Liv on reception was lovely and very helpful. The cleaner (blonde I didn’t get her name) was very helpful and nothing too much trouble. The laundry room is a hit!! The children love the build the bear on arrival and the milk and cookies every night. We can’t wait to come back again next summer!!!

This was our first family holiday in a hotel, rather than camping, although I have been here a few times in my teens and once with my husband about 14 or 15 years ago. Our three children were so excited about the room, which greatly exceeded our expectations and we encountered so many lovely staff members during our stay. Any issue we mentioned was rapidly resolved. The hotel caters really well for families. Our children enjoyed the indoor and outdoor play areas, the cinema, the pool, the silent disco, the daily top up of hot chocolate, marshmallows and squash on the drinks tray in the room, the build-a-bears, and the bedtime milk and cookies, which we didn't discover until our last evening. Of course, the location is the main attraction, with the beautiful Fistral bay just down the steps, although this was more pleasant on the weekdays than at the weekend, when the lifeguards only provided one area for swimming and bodyboarding, rather than two. (Not sure if this was because of rougher sea conditions or if this is always done at the weekends.) The breakfasts were great and we appreciated the small fridge in our room for assisting in providing our other meals. We thankfully had bikes with us, which made it easier for one of us to nip to the supermarket or for fish and chips. It is not an easy walk for children and we like to try not to use our car much on holiday, especially as parking can be tricky at the hotel, as mentioned in other reviews. We were pleasantly surprised to have a large balcony, which helped with drying five people's wetsuits and swimming things. I'm not sure how we would have managed that otherwise. It would have been nice to have a drying rack, although I didn't ask for one, so maybe they do provide them. We did find the room stuffy, as others have said, and the building in general feels quite old and tired, with very noisy floors, so you can hear people moving about in the night, but overall, it was a lovely treat and the staff are clearly doing their best to provide a special stay for everyone. Jade and Daisy were particularly friendly. There was also a male duty manager who was very helpful, although I didn't catch his name and a really lovely woman at breakfast, who didn't have a name badge but had lots of bracelets and a tattoo on her arm. Also a shout out to a man possibly called Archie? He moved too fast for me to see his badge. He wasn't one of the smiley extroverts but he was constantly diligently working away at breakfast, checking the hot buffet, topping it up and surreptitiously whisking away dirty plates at every opportunity.

Property was lovely. Room was a really nice size however you could hear footsteps from the room above and the bunk beds were creaky. Disturbed our sleep. The carpet outside our room was filthy and had an odour. The hotel had a lot of different activities and a lovely pool. Did find some of the staff miserable but there breakfast staff were friendly. The location was lovely right opposite the beach with great views.

The hotel was great, a real pleasure to be there. Staff were very helpful. The view of Fistral beach from the balcony was just amazing. 5 star experience ! Food was nice & we really enjoyed it. If we go to Newquay again we would definitely stay there again.

My room was terrible.

The hotels location is stunning, staff were friendly. Generally tired, very hot, no airflow although very luckily our room had a sliding door to a tiny unkempt outdoor area which was helped slightly. The bathroom was passable, just. Unhygienic shower curtain, no window and an unpleasant smell lingered. Room fairly clean, just OK. Breakfast was fine. Woudl stay again for 1/2 nights due to the great location
