Winchester Royal Hotel

A fabulous location in the heart of Winchester - one minute to the main shopping street, and 3/4 minutes to the Cathedral. A spacious room overlooking the stunning garden was the highlight. Staff were polite, and extremely helpful and accommodating, and the hotel itself was great value. We will definately be returning!

The location of this hotel is perfect for a sightseeing visit to Winchester. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. All areas of the hotel were nice and clean.

We were looking forward to staying in the Feature Rooms that we had chosen and booked specifically as they looked so pretty. Unfortunately, on the day of our arrival the boiler had broken down so there was no hot water in that part of the hotel. Instead, we were given rooms in a different part of the hotel and, although they were perfectly adequate, they lacked the charm that we had been expecting from the Feature Rooms. The staff were helpful and polite and an adjustment was made so that we only paid the price of the standard rooms.

Location. Lovely older parts of the building. Very good breakfast. Waiting and bar staff were overworked but very pleasant.

No car parking available, and reception staff unhelpful. Informed I had been given a “room upgrade”. This proved to be the room furthest from any services, and included a bathroom wash basin half full of dirty water, which we cleaned. Informed receptionist who later checked the room we had cleaned. At dinner we had poor service, waiting 45 minutes between courses. Fully informed they were busy, which perhaps they were, as 6 people had their dinner served in that time. The bathroom hand basin filled again during the night and the water level in the toilet would rise and fall. Obviously, an issue either the drains which I mentioned to the same receptionist, rather dismissive, but the duty manager informed me that “maintenance had been asked to fit it”. So, not quite a room upgrade.

It is a lovely old building in the centre of Winchester. A mix of old and new buildings. We stayed in the new annex with the garden rooms. We had a garden view room, so The room over looked a walled garden which had chairs and tables. We enjoyed drinks and food, the staff were lovely and very helpful despite it being very busy. Our room was clean and tidy but missing the wow factor. It would also be nice to have a fridge and coffee machine. A kettle and sachets were provided. The bathroom was compact with a shower over the bath. We had a ground floor room, the windows had net curtains to help with privacy. I would stay again. Probably for longer and book a room on the first floor.

We had my daughter’s bridal shower lunch ant the charming Royal Winchester Hotel. It was hard to choose from the delicious menu. The food and the service was just five stars. Our meals was so beautifully presented and it was so delicious as were the very tasty desserts. A big thank you to Jane who looked after us and made our experience top notch. And a big thank you to Niamh who patiently went back and forth to organise such a perfect day. Thank you, it was all very much appreciated!
