Royal Hideaway Playacar All Inclusive - Adults only

The Royal Hideaway is an absolutely beautiful resort with an incredible beach for miles and turquoise waters! The food and staff is top notch. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure everything is perfect. It’s also close to downtown which is nice if you want to escape the quiet and go and experience the Fifth Ave life. Resort is quiet and peaceful. I love it and will definitely return soon.

Barceló Royal Hideaway was such a disappointment. When we first arrived, we were excited to see it was so beautiful on the outside and the lobby was really nice as well. As we made our way to our room, we noticed the grounds were a little rundown. Our room, which was $1900 for four nights was an utter disappointment. The drawers in the nightstand were pushed in, broken and unopenable. The mirror was stained and old looking there were no covers for the sink drains so we had to be very careful that nothing fell down them. The baseboards and door jams were beat up and dirty. The bathtub looked stained and filthy. Despite running the air conditioner at its lowest setting it never truly got cold in the room and every night it was difficult to sleep. The shower was ridiculous - we timed it and it was literally 12 minutes until it was fully hot. At 10 minutes it got lukewarm. Unacceptable for a “five star“ resort. The bathroom amenities were miserable - only one small bottle of shampoo, no conditioner. The breakfast buffet was a joke. It was tiny and the food was terrible! The oatmeal was almost all water with a few oats floating in it. The beef was so tough we almost choked on it and the ham was dry and hard. We’ve stayed at RIU Tequila and El Dorado Royale in the past and both had excellent large buffets, we were expecting the same. The cocktails were terrible and all tasted like they were made with artificially sweetened syrups. The restaurant service was incredibly slow. It took us more than an hour to get our courses. On more than one occasion, we had to wait for a hostess for more than five minutes and had to go searching for a bell boy when we needed to leave the resort because no one could be found. We were told that they could break our 20’s into smaller bills for tips for us at the lobby however, every time we asked, they said they had no change. The ATM is a complete rip off - it charges a percentage of the money you withdraw. The $200 that I got out came with a $30+ fee. I’ve never heard of such a thing. As far as entertainment, I never knew what was going on from day to day. At other resorts I've been to they slip a note under the door with details of activities and entertainment for the day. The only good thing about this resort is that it’s a beachfront property and that it’s in Playacar, other than that it’s hard to find a nice thing to say about it. The resort needs a food and room overhaul if it wants to be successful. Lastly, one morning for breakfast I ordered a drink and also gave my waiter $20 to bring back smaller bills for a tip. He handed me my drink and conveniently forgot about the $20 in various bills he was holding in his hand under the tray. He started to walk off until I reminded him about the money. It doesn’t feel good knowing someone is trying to be dishonest when you were trying to give them a tip.

We loved our sisters’ trip to Royal Hideaway. Staff on the whole was very helpful. Beach was great first two days then the wind picked up and in spite of every effort on the part of the hotel, seaweed kept coming in on big waves. We were made very comfortable at the pool area. Shout out to Roberto, Exal and Raul. Dining options were pretty good though later seatings are pressured to leave due to closed kitchens. Carlo at Spices was amazing. Swiss trained and a pro. Lunch not at all inspiring, I wish the grill was out there every day. David, our unit concierge was very helpful and Perla our room housekeeper was amazing. Nespresso machine in room perfect. Btw, the room was very adequate, yes a bit dated but well spread out with a generous balcony/porch and big bathroom with 2 sinks and separate spaces. My sister had a great time with tennis instruction and gym was great for me. We are coming back next year…small, chill and very safe resort. Waaay better than the last 2 resorts we were at close by. Highly recommend!

Smaller adults only property. Lots of staff and service available for anything. Excellent beach maintenance regarding seaweed. Big spacious rooms and balconies. Comfortable beds.

This is the place you hope you’re booking when you book an all-inclusive resort. It’s beautiful, well-maintained, the rooms are spectacular, the balconies are large, palm trees everywhere, it’s quiet, has multiple pools, some hidden away in corners, the staff are excellent, the food is amazing, and there’s plenty of space on the beach to lounge. Every pair of loungers comes with a shade and a table for drinks. Servers come around routinely and the drinks are awesome. The restaurants themselves are incredible and we are so very happy with our stay. We’d recommend this place to anyone we love, and plan to go back ourselves next winter.

My wife and I had an excellent vacation. The hotel was clean and quiet and the food was consistently very good. Only complaint is the difficulty securing lounge chairs at the main pool. But we really enjoyed the quiet and privacy of the two small pools. Staff was excellent. Beer selection included good brands - Corona, Pacifico, Modelo plus light options. Our concierge, Sandra, is fantastic.

Property was nice, quiet and relaxing, beach was very clean and well maintained and water was beautiful emerald color. Food in some restaurants could be better and the only reservations available were after 9pm. Overall nice experience.
