Richmond Marriott Short Pump

I highly recommend. Would definitely utilize this facility again.

This is probably the best hotel in Richmond. But there are a lot of substandard hotels in the area. They are still prone to problems. I have been staying here for the last five years, a couple of time a year. The wifi was down for over 24 hours on a previous stay. On this stay I arrived at 11:45 PM and could not get a digital key nor a physical card key. It was a 15-min issue but the front desk person was great and got it worked out. Still, the last thing you want after 15-hours of travel. It seems that the management is more administrator rather than manger. Check the box type. That said the restaurant is very good. The bar is good. The rooms are comfortable although showing a bit of wear...but that is the case just about everywhere. So, mostly minor issues. I will stay continue to stay there. All in all, it is a good place.

Drove many hours in the rain. Once I got to the hotel, I was greeted by extremely friendly staff. Check-in was very simple. The room was very clean. The lounge was fully stocked with sodas, chips, snacks, yogurt, etc. bottled water was in the lobby. Asked for an extra blanket, and although housekeeping was busy, it was delivered to my room after resting went downstairs to heat food I have brought with me in the microwave. While downstairs they brought in two hot dishes, and fruit and deli to snack on. Walked around the building for exercise and felt safe inside and out. Spoke to bartender who was very friendly. Climate control in the room was very cool.

For this to be a Marriott-related property, it fell WELL BELOW standards I expected. This being an extremely hot summer, I was disappointed that the "courtesy bottles" of water were virtually nonexistent. The bed, although a king sized unit as requested, was more akin to an army cot...very firm mattress and extremely low. I think it literally consisted of a mattress on a bed-frame. Receptacles/plugs were unusable...need to be replaced or some type of insert added. Items plugged into the wall constantly ''dropped out'' of the wall plug! Bathroom facility (shower) did not have an exhaust fan. Steamy windows, humid inside the shower, and (worst of all) God forbid you needed to do a #2. Never experienced "that" before. All-in-all, the Hyatt (or any for that matter) would have been a better choice. Definitely will never use "this" Marriott again. Very Disappointing!!!!

Really great hotel will be back when I’m in the area

The hotel advertises as “freshly renovated, exceptionally elevated. I am not sure what it is referring to. As far as I can tell, it looks exactly like it did two years ago when I stayed. And it is definitely not elevated in any way. The hotel did not update the paint color on its room doors. It is still a cream color and looks very dated and institutional. The rooms furniture is a bit worn. The major problem being there is absolutely no usable drawer space. There is a small two drawer cabinet in the closet, but the issue is that the drawers can’t open all the way because they bump into the closet door by about 2 inches. So you can open it about a quarter of the way. Those are the only two very small drawers in the room. The bed is not very comfortable. But there are ample pillows. The in-room WiFi is no good either. Very slow. If you want a place to put clothes away, this is not the hotel for you. The M Club is well stocked on beverages, but pretty sparse on snacks. The Thursday evening dessert was one chocolate cake sliced and when it was gone, it was gone. Plenty of folks were left without anything. But it is fairly spacious. They did have nice breakfasts that were good and had ample food. It was an ok stay. It is definitely not freshly renovated. I think you have to stop claiming that after six months of the renovations. Like I said, this place looks exactly same as the last time I stayed here years ago. There are much better Marriotts in Richmond. I’d recommend them over this one. Even if they are bit further away from the activity you may doing. I would book elsewhere if back in the area.

Room door stuck and was very hard to open

The staff were very kind. That’s bout the only good thing.

The price for one small room was over $200 and it was dingy, dark, and not very clean. There were crumbs and dirt from whoever was in the room before us. My room was a very far walk from the elevator and the first time I went to the room, the key card didn’t work. I first called to see if I had to come down to fix it and there was no answer. They only had one person working the desk, and she was apparently dealing with other people having the same problem because when I did go back down, there were two other people down there with the same problem. After we got settled and started watching tv to go to sleep, the power went out. It took about five minutes to get it back in and then the tv wouldn’t work at all after that, so we just went to sleep very disappointed with the entire experience. I thought I was paying a higher price for a clean, safe, and comfortable experience and I got none of that. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
