Best Western Kilmarnock Hotel

The rooms are good, WiFi works great, beds are comfortable. Overall great stay. Breakfast was acceptable for the price. Staff was good, Bree in the morning is amazing and has a good attitude. I would recommend it for a one night stay with minimal frills does the job.

Breakfast was terrible, no batter for the 2 waffle makers, no sliced bread for the toaster, only bagels and muffins. Dust on the tables in the lobby, and per the attached picture, staff children sleeping in the lobby.

The staff was wonderful! Everyone was accommodating, pleasant and personable. We would stay again for this alone ❤️ Thank you

My wife and I were to stay at this property for two nights on December 26 & 27.  When we arrived we were told that the elevator was broken.  Since our room was on the second floor, we didn't mind.  However, when we headed to our room we found the hallway loaded with high volume fans obviously drying out the carpet on the 1st and 2nd floors.  The ones on the second floor were immediately adjacent to our room. When we occupied our room we discovered that the room had not been vacuumed and that the toilet seat was broken clean through.  I reported the toilet seat thinking that at a minimum, one could be swapped from the rooms that were unoccupied. That night we put up with the incessant hum of the hallway fans.  The next morning we went to breakfast and discovered a minimal offering of food, a less than clean serving area, and the waffle machine broken!  I went to the desk to ask about speaking to the manager who was not on property.  I asked the desk clerk if we could move to another room, and was told there were no rooms available. It was then I learned that the damage wasn't caused by a leak . . . there had been a fire in the building!!!~! After consulting with my wife, we decided to check out and go to Gloucester to spend our second night  We were not given a receipt for our stay and were charged for both nights of our original reservation.  I did return to the hotel on the 27th for the express purpose of discussing my concerns with the manager, Ms. Latissa Davenport, but, again, she was not on the property. Since then, I have tried communicating with Ms. Latissa Davenport to obtain a refund at least for the second night.  She has replied in perfunctory fashion and never addressed the refund request.  I have entered a complaint with my credit card company disputing the charge as a result. This property is the only chain hotel within 35 miles of Kilmarnock.  It has always charged significantly higher prices than other properties, say, in Williamsburg, for example.  It should at least give a minimum of product to the people that need to stay at that facility.  It currently does not.

Two stars because it could have been much worse and the staff were nice. The room was tidy but stains on lampshades, a strange splatter brown stain on the floor, stains on some pillowcases, weird smell in the hallway, refrigerator didn’t work, microwave was missing the plate. Asked for joining rooms but couldn’t accommodate due to a mistake made in assigning rooms. The staff were apologetic and nice about it but there were maybe 5 cars in the parking lot, so not busy at all. Seemed strange that they didn’t have more joining rooms. This place is in need of a serious upgrade.

Killed a roach in the room. Trash outside front entrance. Slim pickings for breakfast.

Stayed 2 nights, would have moved to another place if there were any. No choice in Kilmarnock. To check in there was a Marijuana smell and no one to check in, some guy said he had gone to store and will be right back, we probably waited 5 min. All construction workers were housed there. Loud and listened to someone vomiting in the next room, thin walls. The next morning at 7 very little breakfast left. The second night was quiet and breakfast was filled. We have stayed there many times hall carpet disgusting this time, rooms really not the cleanest. Hopefully the town will welcome a new chainwith higher standards soon.

Clean, updated and comfortable motel. The staff was excellent.

Some areas of the hotel are filthy (elevator, hallways) Staff was very nice and helpful but the hotel itself is not nice. Toilet and tub had not been cleaned and the smell in the hallways was awful. Very limited options in Kilmarnock so beggars can’t be choosers.

After reading many negative reviews, I was a little apprehensive about booking 3 rooms at the BW Kilmarnock hotel for my family of 9 for a northern neck getaway; But l did because because it was a short stay and there were no Airbnbs available. First of all, let me say that the hotel is nowhere near as bad as the many 1 star ratings would suggest nor is it a 5 star rating in any reasonable person's mind. It is a former Holiday Inn that converted to a BW several years ago and had its last major renovations in 2016. The personnel are accommodating, if a bit overworked due to insufficient staffing that contributes to a lower level of common area cleanliness than most guests would prefer. It is a non-smoking hotel, but there are obviously some patrons that disregard that rule leading to rooms with a faint odor of past usage. We found the guest rooms were reasonably well cleaned, but some of the FF&E is nearing end of life stage. The hotel is in need of a refresh.. We had clean baths and bed linens, tidy rooms and no unwanted visitors in any of our rooms. The breakfast was true to format and there was no watering down of juices or any obvious shortcuts in what was available. Due to the low staffing levels, front desk staff plays multiple parts that occasionally resulted in longer service wait times than are optimal, but we found all staff were friendly and accommodating if a bit unpolished. Apart from functional age, it was a 3 star stay and wholly acceptable.
