"Enjoyed our stay but don’t feel it was a good value for the cost incurred."

5.0

Room was clean. Liked that they offered classes/events. My husband participated in the mixology class offered. Rooms were well insulated against sound so was very quiet.

Meals in the hotel were too expensive for the value. Lobby was dirty - carpet had not been vacuumed in who knows how long. Surfaces were dusty and windows and mirrors in lobby were streaked and grimy. Front desk clerk was not very welcoming - seemed bored and like we were an inconvenience. Was charged a $500 hold for incidentals which was a surprise and was not forewarned about. Since it was just a hold I expect this will be reversed but I was mot expecting it - seems a bit excessive. At least room was clean and rest of front desk staff for remainder of stay was friendly.

"A masterclass in mismanagement"

2.0

The Geiser Grand Hotel is a masterclass in how to turn a charming 1889 building into a customer service nightmare through sheer management incompetence. After paying $250 for a “romantic” four-poster canopy bed experience, we were treated to industrial-grade noise that made the walls and furniture vibrate. Louder than the inside of a 737 Max 8 at cruse speed. When we objected upon opening the door to the room, staff promised it would stop at 9 PM. It didn’t. Their solution? Pay more money to upgrade to a different room that had the same noise problem. After spending exactly one hour in this acoustic torture chamber without even unpacking our bags, we checked out and drove to the Best Western by the truck stop—which was cleaner, quieter, cheaper, and infinitely more romantic! Management’s response to our refund request was a bureaucratic masterpiece of gaslighting: claiming we were warned about the noise (we weren’t), that the noise was "temporary operational activity" (it was like having an industrial vacuum cleaner under your bed and staff explicitly stated they didn't know what it was or how to make it stop), that we declined “reasonable alternatives” (we declined to pay extra for rooms that were not as nice as what we booked and still subject to the noise), and that their cancellation policy applies even when the room fails to meet basic standards for human occupancy. The dishonesty of management in their responses to our own experience has me call into question the accuracy of their rebuttal to EVERY OTHER NEGATIVE REVIEW. Save your money and your sanity; there are historic hotels that understand hospitality doesn’t mean holding guests hostage with predatory cancellation policies and upgrade fees. Stay somewhere you'll actually enjoy instead of risking your romantic getaway with a management team better suited for a slum.

"Beautiful building, AWFUL management. Expect to get taken for a ride."

2.0

For the love of God, take your money elsewhere! Booked: Romantic 4 poster hand carved elevated queen bed with lace canopy room with fireplace. Experience - We checked in at 8:30pm. On seeing the room, we were appalled to be overwhelmed by a tone similar to holding down the 0 key on your phone - but nearly as loud as being on a passenger jet. The walls and furniture vibrated with it. I asked the staff if there were any other rooms like the one we booked, and they said no. I asked if the noise stopped - and was told it would once the kitchen shuts down at 9pm. At 9:40pm, the noise was driving my wife insane. I asked if someone could please shut it off. They said they could not. I told the staff that this was hardly the romantic experience I was hoping for when I booked a $250/night room and they apologized and stated that we could pay to upgrade to a different. I considered this, but ultimately no room in this hotel could be considered quiet and the noise had already really been grating on my nerves. I informed the staff that I would need to seek other accommodations and I would like a refund. They informed me that they could not, because I booked with a 3rd party platform. I had to argue with them. "You booked on 'bookonthenet.net', not our site." I had to literally pull out my phone and show that if you go to the hotel website and click 'book a room', that's where you do it. Still were not able to process my refund and was told they would check me out and management would have to reach out to me. Frustrated, we ended up shlepping our luggage over to the Best Western near the Truck Coral. Right next to the freeway and hardly the romantic evening we hoped, we found our budget accommodations there cleaner, staff friendlier, and the room considerably more quiet than the Geiser Grand. Management never did reach out to me, so I followed up. I called the main line and asked for this mysterious management. They were not there. No, there was no phone number for management I could call, either. They'd take my email and get back to me. I then received an email stating that since I had cancelled the reservation after the cancellation window I was not eligible for a refund. Note: I booked & cancelled in under 12h. We spent less than an hour at the hotel. We never even unpacked our bags. I responded with sound measurement images and objected to the typical cancellation policy as our room was not romantic, and you'd have to be deaf to get any sleep. This was still denied. This time the email claimed we were told informed some ambient noise transmission was inherent. Aside from being a lie, I'm not talking about ambient noise. This noise level is right up against the 70db mark where you really ought to be wearing hearing protection if you have more than 8h of exposure. Even with all this, management refuses to give our money back steadfastly claiming that since we didn't cancel a week prior to our stay (we booked & cancelled our stay in under 12h), we are not owed anything.

"Lovely Classic Gem"

10.0

We've been staying in this beautiful Victorian hotel every year for more than a decade and always look forward to coming back. We were pleasantly surprised to find spacious, quiet rooms and perfectly functioning infrastructure--not always a given in older buildings. The staff is always helpful and responsive. This hotel dates to the heyday of Baker City when it was booming with mining money in the 1880s and the design and decor are stunning. The restaurant is solid but if you don't want the linen tablecloth experience, the same menu is available in the bar. Did I mention pet-friendly? There are cheaper places to stay, but for a very short drive off the interstate you can enjoy a boutique hotel experience for a modest price.

The restaurant was exceptional food but very slow. The cook apologized. The room was comfortable. The staff was courteous and the building is beautiful.

We paid for an extra bed. It was terrible. The roll away sunk in the middle and was back breaking ever for youngsters. Thecpaper products in the room ran out. Our breakfast took over and hour to serve and there were only 3 tables full of people in the restaurant.

"A relaxing stay."

Historic property right downtown.

Food was not as good as I remembered a few years ago and service was way too long since we were the only diners for dinner and breakfast!
