"One of the best all inclusive hotels I’ve stayed in"

10.0

Had an amazing 2 weeks at this hotel from start to finish and genuinely didn’t want to leave. The whole place has such a lovely atmosphere and instantly felt relaxing the moment we arrived. We were even given a welcome drink while we waited to check in which was a really nice touch after travelling. Rooms were always clean and well kept, and the mini bar was stocked daily with free water, beer and sodas which was really nice. We did occasionally get a few large ants visiting the room, but being in a tropical location that’s kind of expected and there isn’t really much the hotel can do about it. We also loved seeing the resident coatis and deer wandering around the resort! Food was really good with loads of variety. Unlimited à la carte visits was great, although we actually preferred the buffet most nights because there was so much choice. They catered for everything and were really good with allergies too — they asked every evening and had gluten free sections available. I usually have a sensitive stomach when travelling but had no issues here at all, 10/10 from me. Entertainment team were brilliant, really enthusiastic and there was always something going on. Loved the evening pool party. Lunch pizza and the free ice cream were both great too. The hotel itself was spotless. Staff were constantly cleaning and maintaining everything and it really showed. Only downside for us was people reserving sunbeds by the pool from god knows what time in the morning, so we ended up by the beach most days instead. Luckily that suited us fine because there were always plenty of beds available there and it was much more quiet. They were clearing the seaweed from the beach every day so it didn’t really impact us at all. It is what it is really, and the hotel clearly do their best to keep on top of it. The staff were great throughout our stay and always friendly, although we did notice that people waving dollar bills around at the bars sometimes seemed to get served a bit quicker. The luggage scales at reception weren’t working when we checked out. We let reception know and were basically just told they “might” broken, but the machine had already taken our 10 pesos and we didn’t get it back. Not an issue, just something to be aware of if you plan on using them. The walk to the highway is about 15 minutes which doesn’t sound far, but in the heat it definitely feels longer. It would be nice if the hotel offered a shuttle or golf cart service there. We did ask once to try our luck and were told no, which was fair enough, the bumps on the road might be a bit too much for a golf cart. There’s a great mix depending on what kind of holiday you want — loads going on around the activity pool if you like music and entertainment, or quieter areas by the beach if you just want to relax.

"Fantastic Service and Unforgettable Experience"

10.0

We just stayed at Ocean Maya Royale and it was amazing. The service was outstanding from start to finish, and the Privilege access was absolutely worth it. Rusbel took great care of us and always made sure we had a drink in hand, which really elevated the whole experience. Alfredo, our butler, was incredibly helpful and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. Overall, we had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a great adults-only getaway.

"Great trip"

10.0

An amazing resort for couples and singles. Very laid back or as much excitement as you want. Should out to Omar in Privilege lounge (he is absolutely the best!) and to Juan, my butler who puts all other butler's to shame. He went above and beyond to make sure my solo trip was amazing. Food is really good as are the accommodations. It was my 4th trip to OMT but my first one solo. I will definitely return to this amazing place!

"Nice experience"

8.0

I stayed at Ocean Maya Royale in late April 2026 with 4 other family members and we all enjoyed ourselves here. This resort is located around 45 mins from Cancun airport (provided you get dropped off first). We booked via AirTransat Vacations. As an aside, AirTransat was a nice experience compared to Sunwing which is not great, and WestJet which rips people off with sneaky baggage fees on 'All-Inclusive' vacations. Anyway, about the resort. As others have noted the staff is great. They are very kind, fun to talk to, and have a good sense of what help or experience people need. Pilar and Luis were great with their Tequila and Wine tastings. Sarah was full of energy as was most of the entertainment staff. Adults only is nice and most adults we saw were 30+ with the average age approaching 50. The nightly entertainment was surprisingly good for a medium sized resort. Fire show was good - but you'll smell the gas. Silent disco was really fun. The music performers were talented and the other dancing or comedy type shows were fun enough too. There are multiple evening segments from 7ish to 11ish. The resort itself is small-medium size compared to ones I've been in the past. You can get from the main lobby/buffet resto to the beach in 5ish mins (maybe a bit longer if you walk slower). No smoking anywhere except for a smallish lounge area away from the main spots. Rooms are spacious. Not too new, not too old. Food was decent. Not the top I've had, the buffet selection was a bit smaller than I've been to at bigger spots. That said we were more than happy with it and ate at the buffet for most meals always finding plenty of options in the weekly rotation. Teppanyaki resto was pretty tasty and fun - get in line by 530 to book an early sitting if you want it. Other a-la carte we didn't go to but the pool resto was nice ambiance when we walked by at night. Pool resto was also great during the day with Mexican food like tacos, nachos and other faves. Pizza next to it each day except Tuesday when there were burritos. Even an ice cream hut by the pool. Yum. Each morning we'd get a coffee at the coffee bar by the lobby - great drink options and great donuts there. Pool was busy due to beach not being the best - see below. Get up early to get a seat, they get reserved with towels put on them. Pool to left as you approach is quieter. Pool to right is a mild Party pool but not too loud. There are also lots of daily activities like pool volleyball, crafts, language class, kayak tour and water aerobics. Alas - also some smaller areas for improvement for the resort that are in their control - bathroom 'door' in rooms are not full doors - privacy lacking - check-in process was quite long, many docs to print on and sign - it's 2026 suggest to get this 75% faster, people are tired from long travel and want to get settled in - bring earplugs as shows are outdoors, if you don't outlast them you'll still hear them from your room especially if you're close to lobby - I did see staff pour a bit of bar liquid refuse in pool once - lazy, and rinse out a bucket in the pool - at times the staff selling around the pool, especially the photo guys, would get to be a bit much Areas of note outside their control - seaweed was bad. I heard a couple people say it was the worst season yet. beach was not usable most of the time we were there despite a lot of efforts by staff. Privilege beach was totally unusable despite dump trucks full of seaweed being removed. smell could waft into pool area at times too - taxi service in the area is a racket. high fixed rates all over. apparently uber/lyft were squeezed out with some unsavoury manoeuvres. a ride to Playa del Carman one way was $C 40 / $USD 30 for a 12 min ride, plus any tip. Playa by the way is fun to visit but very touristy, bring money or your best 'no thank you's. ok last point to end on a positive note - we really enjoyed walking around the resort as the grounds are kept in great shape and you see lots of wildlife, especially Coatis which are very ambitious scavengers - think racoon meets anteater. We also saw deer, plenty of iguanas and birds. recommend to give it a try it was worth it based on the pricing in my view

"Mexican honeymoon"

8.0

We visited here in May 2025 for our honeymoon, we paid for the privilege plus and honeymoon suite with outside jacuzzi. The hotel was lovely but there’s always pros and cons and it depends what you want from a holiday. I hope you find this helpful. Staff- The majority of the staff were absolutely lovely and so friendly, but there’s always the odd one that was not so great but you will always get that. I wish I had made notes of the staff because a lot of them deserve a mention but I didn’t! The pool bar guys were fab. Gabby in the privilege side of the buffet is worth a mention, she was always so smiley and friendly. The cleaning staff and waitresses on an evening were all amazing. Each and every one would say ola and smile , even the gardeners etc. Jorge was our beach butler. He was fab but we didn’t make much use of the privilege are which I will come onto later. Fabian was our allocated butler who introduced himself on the first day and booked us in to some restaurants. He also provided the itinerary for activities on WhatsApp for a few days. However, this was the last time we spoke to him, I saw him around the next day and said hello but he didn’t ask if we needed anything, the first few mornings he would message to say he was about but we heard nothing second half of the stay. Disappointing. We also figured out pretty quick that we could see the itinerary on the app and also book our restaurant reservations on here too so not sure what Fabian had to offer?? Accommodation- We booked the privilege honeymoon suite with whirlpool. When we first arrived the bed was decorated in flowers and a coati made from towels which was very cute! However, the whirlpool was not clean but on the second day we cleaned it out and tried to fill it. As soon as we ran the water frogs jumped in so we couldn’t use it. We also noticed the coaty’s would climb in to try get water from the tap which is probably why it was not very clean. The garden area was not very tidy and the sun loungers looked past their best. Unfortunately we did not use the outside area due to this. To improve it I think they could improve the enclosed garden area with screens or something to make it less open to the wildlife! There could also be a lid fitted to the whirlpool to keep it clean. The cleanliness of the room could not be faulted in the main. The cleaners did a good job when they came. However a few times we went back to the room in the afternoon and it had not been cleaned. I expect it was because we were at the end of the block so they were still making their way round, but we used the door sign to ask it to be cleaned which seemed pointless. Considering we paid extra for privilege honeymoon suite I would have expected a better position. The privilege block is close to the main building but there were beach side rooms which looked amazing. I feel the privilege rooms are not well placed, and the outside area was wasted with no view and unkempt. Privilege area and restaurants- The privilege area by the beach was ok, but the area further up towards the activity pool was much nicer and due to the layout and decking had no seaweed issues. The smell from the sargassam in the privilege area was not as bad as I have read about but it seems the privilege area is in the wrong place! I appreciate the seaweed is a natural occurrence and it didn’t bother us but when sat on the Bali beds you had the jcb scooping it up which is not so relaxing! We ended up spending most of our time at the activity pool with the swim up bar and good music. Privilege should not mean deathly quiet and boring! Privilege restaurant- The privilege restaurants were a mixed bag. The main one we visited for breakfast and lunch. The food was good but service not so much. You often walked in with no staff around, so would sit yourself down and wait. When they did arrive and take your order they were nice and friendly. But, the food service was very slow. Due to this we ended up going to other places so the buffet restaurant which was quick and convenient. Mexican- On the whole this was our fave restaurant. We visited for lunch and dinner. The food was the best we had however service at times was not good. We waited so long one lunchtime for our drinks we went to the adjacent bar and got them ourselves. The final evening here we had dinner. Good amazing, service not so much. Again we waited so long for our drinks. They even asked for our order twice. When they did arrive I got mine but we had to chase up Jays order. Teppanyaki- Lovely evening which incorporated entertainment during the cooking. I have had better in the UK but it was good food. They should be more transparent about the extra charges on the drinks they have on offer as are quick to take your order but do not tell you they are an extra cost. This was ok though as we knew it would be but I expect some guests have been bitten by this!! Italian- Service the best we had. Wonder if it was because we bought a bottle of wine though! The food was not great. Both mains very disappointing. Such as shame as this is such a lovely building and service was good. Buffet- We mixed between sitting in the privilege area and just the normal area. I preferred the privilege area as it was quieter and better air con but sometimes felt uncomfortable. The staff would ask what you wanted to drink and we often ask for merlot and got given something else. Light on the pour too!! The food was very good here. The only criticism would be that they need more staff in the centre for the grilling and serving at the different food stations. I loved that they had 2 cocktail options where you could help yourself for breakfast lunch and dinner. However I’m unsure how non priv guests got other drinks as did not see a drinks station. Ocean eats- Amazing service which I used one evening due to missing dinner as I felt unwell. Very quick and nice food. Mini bar- Always topped up with 2 beers and 4 sodas plus bottles water. Very good 👍🏼 Pools- Fab pools, our fave was the activity pool with swim up bar. Even if you didn’t want to drink it was always a good atmosphere and never felt pressured to join in! The choice of the quieter pool was great. Entertainment- pretty standard holiday entertainment. All the entertainment staff were good. I think they could do more earlier on as you were often waiting for everything to get going. The beach fire show was excellent! Hotel amenities- the coffee shop was a fab edition and open early. Sports bar could be open more. Shop-ridiculously over priced for those extras you forgot! The cigarettes and snacks were very expensive also. They would sell more if the prices were better. It was often empty. At check out we were given a feedback survey to complete. I think they would get more constructive feedback if this was left in your room to complete when you have more time, as when checking out you just want to get sorted so I ticked everything was ok. 😆 Zoë & Jay Xx Sent from Outlook for iOS
