"Not impressed with this so called 5 star resort!"

6.0

Not really at 5 star, all inclusive resort going by our experience. It's closer to a 4 star.Lot of little detailed stuff is left out , not impressed! Rooms: 3/5 | Service: 3/5 | Location: 5/5 Rooms The rooms were nice a bit small. They even forgot to clean ours. One day, again I had to call the front desk to get the maid to come out and clean the room! Food & drinks In the buffet the Food was subpar, a lot of The Times it was cold and tasteless. The a la carts were closed two if not

"Not worth the money unless you got a great deal."

6.0

This was our first stay at the Ocean Maya, or any H10 resort. I gave 3½ stars for a few reasons. Cost - for what we paid it wasn't worth it. Some.of this might be because of Westjet Vacations but we met a lot of people that paid half what we paid. They all flew from the east coast ironically, but had the same flight durations and one connection. A couple from Calgary paid what we did and were equally upset. For the price we could have stayed at a secrets with an upgrade to their "exclusive" package (or whatever they call it). In my opinion it's not worth the final cost for us. Here's my pros and cons for what its worth. Pros: No reservations for restaurants (except hibachi) and you can wear decent short, sandals and a collared short as a guy - a huge plus in my world. The layout of the resort is well done, easy to navigate once you figure it out and nothing is too far unless you want to use the tennis courts. The beach is kept very clean although you can't really swim in the ocean - nothing the resort has control over For this particular resort there doesn't seem to be much point in being a member or paying for the privilege package. This from several people that did or are members. If your anal about what liquor you drink then maybe, but who truly cares after half a dozen?! 24 hour room service is nice. Selection is limited but this seems to be a dying thing in a lot of resorts we've traveled too so it was a nice surprise. Cons: Check-in was extremely unremarkable, almost felt like we were putting them out. Didn't seem very excited about us being there, no explanation of any potential upgrades (obviously prior to us finding out its not worth it), and then told to wait outside for the billboard who after 15 minutes we had to go back in and ask again for. Was not a great first impression. The lobby which we headed back to after finally getting to our room (we arrived at 730pm for reference) looks great but the furniture is not for sittomg in unless your 10 feet tall or like to curl up. Everything is big and uncomfortable (don't even try the stools for more than 15mins). The bar staff all just stood there behind the bar looking like they just got laid off, we had to get their attention for a drink which they made zero enthusiasm. First impressions really piling up now! Having said that throughout the week we looked for Miguel at the pool, Francisco at the pool and the lobby bar, and Edith at the lobby bar. They saved the place! Food - it was ok. Not inedible but not worth writing home for. Again given what we paid I was hoping for something where you literally can't decide where to eat because it was so damn good you want to go to them all twice. The buffet is ok but more of a "we should eat something" than a let's go there. They have a great little coffee/tea shop but unfortunately everything we asked for (off their menu) was made wrong, including iced coffee that we always got hot. This is an easy fix!! The whole week was this way. The room - by itself the room was good but we had no hot water in the shower for 2 days. They came the first day to check, put on the sink tap and it was hot so fixed! My wife made them check the shower because as she so eloquently put it "I'm not having an effing bath in the sink". They used a kitchen thermometer and said look its kind of warm then left. After the second complaint on day 2 someone did something and we had enough for one hot shower - no prizes for guessing who got that. Entertainment - the staff were great and did they but they didn't seem.to know what to do. We had a rain day so all the evening stuff was cancelled and the lobby jammed up. No attempt to get anything going even though they have a big theater at their disposal. People were itching for something to do. Throw some dance tunes on and make a dance floor, some quick pub trivia...you don't have to recreate the wheel. It was frustrating people and it was obvious. There were a few other little things that unfortunately add up when you're already frustrated. This was the biggest issue at the resort from talking to people, these little things wouldn't be an issue but the proverbial bucket was getting full. Despite this we met some amazing people who made the week so enjoyable. An impromptu game of dice at the pool started by a guest that is now daily and run by guests (it gets passed on to someone to host it) is just one part of why not 5 stars. Why isn't the resort seizing this opportunity to do something? Would we go back? Yes - if we paid what everyone else seemed to and with lowered expectations. Again this may be a Westjet Vacations issue but the resort is the destination, and there are getting ro be more and more choices every year.

"Small, intimate resort with over-the-top food."

10.0

This resort has everything we wanted: great food, nice rooms, and beautiful grounds and pools. The food at the dinner buffet was wonderful. We happened to choose eating at the buffet on their Brazilian night, and the selection of foods was outstanding. Carlos, our server, went out of his way to make our evening enjoyable. In fact, every meal we have had here has been above par as far as quality of food and service. We'll be back.

"Week stay , awesome experience, great food and drinks"

10.0

We had a great time here! Lots of games and group activities for solo travelers, couples, and groups. I played volleyball, learned to salsa with Edgar, had drinks in the lobby bar with Octavio, tequila tasting with Moises and Manolo, and played a relay game at the pool. The DJs kept the party going at every location and it was a great experience. Rooms are clean, prices are great, and always a nice atmosphere.

"Priceless memories at Ocean Maya Royale"

10.0

Second time that we have been to this resort, had as much fun and rest as the first time. We enjoyed the variety of restaurants, food that was offered and the cleanliness of resort and room. This is a resort that is well balanced between doing activities and resting. The ambiance at the bar at night is very entertaining. Want to thank Sofia, Estphanie and Gabriela from the Hacienda, Yovannetti (JO), Jorge, Reynaldo, Octavio and Manuel from the bar (so many laughs and good times) and Alberto at Vita Dolce!!!! People that made this trip priceless for us.
