Imperial Hotel Gold Coast

The funny thing is the reviews keep repeating on here and management don't seem to be doing anything apart from using AI messages in reply which I will get as well after this review. The entrance is still grand, our suitcases were taken to our room and the doors to the hotel are opened as you walk in as long as the concierge team aren't all smoking at once out the front which we encountered multiple times... we booked and paid on booking.com and were greeted by an unexperienced young male with no personality at all who was about to charge me again for the accommodation I paid for a month again because there accounts had not allocated it correctly. A manager stepped in and cleared it up with no apology. He then gave us our room key and like every other review on here no overview of the hotel, had to ask about parking, eating, lift direction this kid was like a robot gave us nothing. It's scary they take such a large bond when there is so much damage in the room. I took photos and attached them to this review of the lounge and TV cabinet. The bed was terrible and the pillows were flat like pancakes. It looks like the bathroom had doors and some stage but they have been ripped off. I was in a Lagoon King Room and there is literally no privacy to get changed and mirrors everywhere. It really kills the romance for a couple. We had just got engaged and I had advised the hotel of this. We had the attached letter in our room with nothing else. Not even a free chocolate lol. No complimentary drink. No cheap bottle of sparkling. Absolutely nothing but a letter from the front office manager who decided to put MR and MRS Coleman when it was only an engagement.. so she stuffed that letter up also.. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and have received things for birthdays and special occasions much less then an engagement and we both couldn't believe the hotel thought a letter from the front office supervisor would make our experience better. We also ran out of body soap first day like every other review.. went to the oyster happy hour on the Thursday and was swamped by the Jim's mowing conference after drinks. We left not long after. The only two positives were the free parking and the breakfast which everyone seems to agree on. As someone who grew up in Brisbane in the 90s it's so sad to see such a landmark like this hotel sink to the bottom of the ocean. The buzz this place used to have when it was Palazzo Versace was second to none in this region. People used to meet for coffee and cake just because you might have seen a celebrity checking in and because the marina was the place to be. The whole area needs a revamp now. This trip made me so sad. Please stop this landmark from hitting the bottom of the ocean. I was in hospitality for 20 years and simple changes like removing the sit down check in reception so your staff are standing and more energetic would be so much more inviting. The sit down reception doesn't work and feels like a bank teller. It makes the staff look robitic and unhelpful. Forget holding onto the versace outdated furniture and replace it with new modern furniture. Even copies would look better then the attached photos. You need new beds, new pillows and new furniture asap. Create a real piano oyster bar downstairs that people want to spend the night at. Not leave after one drink. Most days it's like gods waiting room. Has no atmosphere at all.. please save this hotel...

Breakfast taste good

This was an exceptional break away from the hussle and bussel of city life. Our stay coordinator Sara was exceptional in looking after our daily requirements. Sara saw we were in our senior years and gave special consideration to our needs. Sara always made a point of pleasantly greeting us and assigned staff to help us with our luggage. We certainly will be back to enjoy the Imperial, Gold Coast.

generous rooms, great staff, convenient location

A bit dated, but otherwise very good

While the lobby and the rooms were kept in good shape - the pool area was in a bit of disrepair. It was very quiet and the pool area bar was not open or serving - but orders could be made to you seat via QR code. Staff were great but the location is a little bit away from the main areas. Still a manageable 1.5-2KM walk - but that is a bit after dinner.

It’s a real shame. I used to love staying here when it was the Versace, but this was my first visit since the change of ownership, and unfortunately, it didn’t live up to its legacy. The rooms have noticeably deteriorated, and the hotel overall feels tired and poorly maintained, as if it’s simply being left to age without care. It now feels like a 3-star experience, but the price tag doesn’t reflect that drop in quality. The one highlight was the staff. Every team member I encountered was genuinely warm, friendly and professional. They were the saving grace of an otherwise disappointing stay.

The hotel is now dating. Needs some tlc. Still a very nice place to stay. Breakfast could have been more for the price. Or it should cost less per person. The old fabrics are now very well worn in the lobby time to let got of the past and bring in the emperors new clothes.
