"Made us stay in room with no AC"

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this stay was extremely disappointing. We arrived late on a busy Saturday night and were forced to wait a long time to check in because the hotel was severely understaffed. We were first given the wrong room type, then moved again only to find the AC did not work and the room was uncomfortably hot (80 degrees)!!! The only staff member on duty said there was no maintenance available and offered almost no help. After being given used batteries that did not fix the issue, we had no choice but to book another hotel around 1 a.m. and request a refund. Despite multiple follow-ups, management never contacted us. I eventually had to physically go back to the hotel myself prior to departing Sacramento to at least be given an email address to escalate my refund. After finally receiving a response from management, I learned that the refund was denied because they were unable to "re-rent" the room that night. The hotel clearly had no problem renting out an unusable room. The lack of service, follow-through, and accountability was unacceptable, especially for a those traveling late at night.
