Hotel Khiva Palace

Fun fact is I'm technically reviewing the hotel next to them since I was told at one point they overbooked this hotel and they would place me at a similar value hotel next door but in reality it felt is the same owner/company. The one I stayed in did look like the "cheaper" version of the two and the room I had booked looked a bit nicer than the hotel I was placed in but its not like it was a horrible downgrade just noticeable enough. I liked the location since is fairly walkable to the old town while also not being in the old town itself plus is next to a really good restaurant around the corner and not far from the train station. The staff was friendly though and since all our stay was good, the small downgrade was not enough to sour the experience at all.

I wished we were notified of the changes of being overbooked with plenty of time in advance because when notified I was already on my trip so I had no time to research anything else and my main real choice was to trust in them having space on the other hotel which luckily did work out. Also, same issue as with EVERY hotel I had in Uzbekistan which was the whole play on their credit card machine not working but once they realize we don't have cash and we won't pay otherwise than by card then magically the credit card machines do start working properly so stick to using your card even if you have to play that game.

the room was very cold and we have to change because no bed for our child. Bathroom very simple. Breakfast terrible: omelettes very dry, bread not fresh, grill for bread broken...

Room was pretty big (was upgraded on arrival). Breakfast options were nice but cold even at 7am. Corridors were dim late at night (albeit manageable)

Hotel was about a 20 minute walk from Old Khiva. otherwise it was good.

The Reception and the beds!

We appreciated the friendly reception staff and the comfortable beds, but unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. This hotel ranks among the worst we’ve experienced. Upon check-in, we were unexpectedly asked to pay a tourist tax, despite our voucher indicating that all costs were covered. While the reception staff was friendly and helpful, I can only rate this hotel a 1. The cleanliness was unacceptable. Upon entering our room, we discovered a toothpick next to the toilet and old food from previous guests in the fridge. The toilet wasn’t cleaned daily, and we didn’t receive fresh towels; only the bed was made. The breakfast staff was lazy and unfriendly, showing no concern for the guests. When greeted with a “Good morning” in Uzbek, they responded with mocking laughter. Despite my proficiency in Turkish, Persian, and Russian, my greetings were met with disdain. The two staff members were more interested in their phones and chatting with each other than in clearing tables and cleaning. We had to sit among dirty cutlery and plates left by other guests, which was disgusting. The breakfast itself was disappointing. On the first day, we were served dry, tasteless cookies and fruit, with no coffee available. The second day was slightly better, but the staff’s lazy and unacceptable behavior persisted. They only started clearing tables at 9:40, after all the guests had left. It’s shocking to see guests and tourists treated this way. What a disappointment and a waste of money!

Quite spacious rooms, decent breakfast, efficient AC, relatively big swimming pool, no crowds, kind staff

No real fridge in the room, just cooler, unhinged, leaking toilet bowl, the staff wanted to charge us substantial additional tourist tax that was not mentioned in the reservation

Staffs are polite and helpful. The room tidy and clean and super comfortable. Location is also excellent 👍👍👍. Satisfied more than imagined.

The swimming pool was used all day by kids apparently not staying at the hotel. Difficult to enjoy the pool. People bathing until midnight, difficult to rest in a noisy environment.
