SHG Hotel Villa Carlotta

Everything about this hotel is very good. I only reduced the score for comfort as I prefer a soft pillow. The hotel is right on the lake front and very easy to find. Good parking.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, the family rooms were terrible, sockets hanging of the wall, not clean, the bedsheets were not changed when we arrived and had blood on them, air conditioning was not working, bathrooms were disgusting and the walls had damp. I complaint to the staff and they agreed that the hotel was terrible but could not do much. I checked out 1 day before hand due to the above.

Easy to find, our room had balcony and overlooked the lake. Buffet breakfast good. Disappointed with the pool condition and decided not to use even though it was very hot - pool needs a refurbishment, bottom of pool either dirty or paint peeled off - looked dark green so decided against using it ! Parking is not always easy - overall a pleasant stay.

Located south of Stresa on Lake Maggiore, Villa Carlotta is a great place to stay while visiting the Isola Bella and the other islands without the hassle of driving and parking in Stresa. There’s a boat that goes to the islands from across the street from the hotel in Belgirate that makes the trip easy. The lake is Better than Como!

Whilst the hotel has a wonderful view of the lake it is very much in need of a refurbishment. The bedrooms have undergone a small renovation but the bathrooms are dated. Worse still are communal areas and especially the pool and gardens - the pool was empty with broken / rusty furniture whilst the gardens are untended. There was no mention of the state of the pool - or that it normally only opens in June (unlikely!). Upside - the staff are very helpful and the breakfast generally very good, though some parts in short supply. There was a good selection of lovely breads and pastries. All in all, one much remember that although around £120 per night seems a lot, compared to the competition this is relatively cheap, though not worthy of a 4 star rating.

Very nice and helpful staff . Not much to do in hotel. Breakfast is not up to standard. Room with a view is a must.

Only 5 to 10 minutes to Stresa by car. Very good breakfast and dining facilities. While somewhat dated, room was clean and adequate. Staff was very friendly, helpful and fluent in English. Hotel is right on the lake road so road noise might bother some. WiFi worked well and there was sufficient free parking on the property and on the road in front of the hotel. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Good value.

Excellent location, good on site facilities such as restaurant & bar, outdoors swimming pool, beautiful landscaped gardens with variety of huge ancient trees and this is the best time of the year to see because of the autumn colours. They had several huge ancient Tulip Trees and other variety of unusual plants and trees, wonderful gardens. Although the hotel is big and was full when we were there, it still felt comfortable and we did feel crowded or had to wait that much to be served. Staff at the Reception were good, polite and helpful especially the older Receptionist in the evenings, she was very good in spending time with us and giving all the tips we needed to get around the different areas we wanted to see.

The hotel as is shown on pictures. The lobby does not have too much decorations. It is simple but meet my need in staying. The room is clean, and conveniently connected to wifi without filling in room number or email address, etc., and it's pretty fast connected to the internet. If wanted to stay, relax and go surfing, this location is good. However, if out door activities is not right for you, this location is a little bit inconvenient because you have to take a train to get to Stresa, and from there takes transfer train to Milan (1 hr), or out of the country to i.e. Switzerland, which is about 2 hrs raid from Stresa. But this region is convenient if you are going to Switzerland or Milan. To other cities of Italy, it is not.

Hotel is reasonably comfortable but rooms are in need of updating. Things like power sockets are limited and the decor looks over 20 years old. Great view of the lake and staff friendly.
