Occidental Papagayo - Adults Only - All inclusive

An all inclusive almost beach resort. The hotel campus is very spread out with 20 separate buildings all with a unique view. If anyone in your party is disabled this is not the place to stay. They offer a shuttle service to the wet bar/beach area, which is still a short walk to the beach. The shuttle is offered at all hours but once you get dropped off the lobby is the only location to catch a return room trip. All meals and drinks including alcoholic ones are included in the pricing. Meals are mostly buffet style. Our room was spacious but lacked a dresser and a power source on both sides of the bed. We did have a gorgeous view. Room was cleaned everyday. All of the staff was pleasant and helpful. Off site excursion partners are pricey.

The place had everything you would need. Food, Drinks, beach access, and (even though I did not use their services because I didnt know they had them) they have excursions on site. The only two gripes I have is they offer a luxury upgrade for premium liquor and free room service, but only one location has the premium liquor and its at the very top of the resort. This leads to my second gripe which is the amount of walking needed to enjoy the resort. They do have shuttles, but they get full quickly and show up rarely or you call for one and it comes slowly. Still enjoyed the stay and would recommend it.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. We wanted to go somewhere that was easy to get to and that didn't need any extra planning ahead of time. All inclusive was great, deluxe room with a bay view was worth it, and so was the premier upgrade that got us into the premier bar/lounge. The food at the restaurants was much better than the buffet, but the buffet was still fine. Tours with On the Beach Tours were great, and we liked spending time at the beach every day. Overall, we were happy with this for an affordable and easy-to-plan honeymoon.

The property is beautiful but unfortunately the condition of the rooms needs a lot of attention. We had lights not working and hot water not working. The staff could only do so much. Every time you called the front seat they would say the will send things right away but no one would show up. There was no consistency in the services provided. Their main restaurant had no air conditioner and so it was like eating in a sauna. Overall the staff was good but the services provided were very poor.

What I didn’t like was the attitude of the staff it clearly wasn’t the best throughout the trip but that wasn’t everyone

I stayed at two other resorts before arriving at Occidental Papagayo, and while the property itself has beautiful views and a great location, the overall experience was disappointing—mainly due to poor staff service. The front desk staff were unhelpful and unresponsive, and the security personnel at the entrance and exit were outright rude. This was not a language issue—we had excellent service at two other nearby resorts where communication was never a problem. The rooms are outdated, though they were kept clean. The bathroom felt like something out of an old care facility—low water pressure, a broken faucet, and an overall worn-out feel. The security safe didn’t work, and no one made any effort to fix it, even after we reported it. Housekeeping never showed up, despite reminders. The shuttle system between the parking area and rooms was inconvenient. We booked an ocean view room but were given one almost entirely blocked by trees, with little to no view. The food was average at best—breakfast was decent, but the lunch and dinner buffet were below expectations. Although we made the most of our stay by enjoying the beach and scenery, the resort’s management and service were lacking. I won’t be staying here again.

This is a great adult resort, peaceful and comfortable.
