Occidental Papagayo - Adults Only - All inclusive

Our stay was a great one! Stayed a week in June 2025. The staff really made it quite special. Three in particular were the bartenders we met, Bryan and Joaquin in the lobby bar were extremely friendly, kind, and welcoming on our first night and continued the exceptional service during our entire stay. Bryan went above and beyond to make first timers feel welcome to Costa Rica. The third was Yuediel at the pool bar. He was such a blast!!! He would greet people as they came in the area and would give the cheered goodbyes when his shift ended. He connected many guests at the bar in English and Spanish! He was the best atmosphere at the bar. He too, went above and beyond. One day they couldn’t offer a spicy guaro shot (highly recommend) the next day he made sure they were stocked! The property itself is beautiful with spectacular beach access. The food was themed each night, the Italian restaurant was wonderful. The other group of people that also deserve some attention are the entertainment staff. Unfortunately I didn’t get their names but it was two young men and young lady in particular during our stay she had some braids. They came to our table during dinner and invited all the guests to karaoke and man did they bring the lively atmosphere. They encouraged everyone and hyped everyone up when they sang. Highly recommend this resort. It’s my second time and I’ll be returning again!!

Great pools. Great food. Loved the Italian restaurant. We loved the chef at the buffet because he cooked up our fresh caught tuna for us. The rooms were nice and comfy beds the highlight was watching the monkeys frolic about the property. The staff at the disco were top notch. The drivers to our room were great. I would stay again.

Beautiful property, but w/mobility issues hard to get around. Tried calling for help at #s provided in rm, the calls just rang, and rang, and rang, and rang. Never got transportation help. Although I purchased a ‘Deluxe’ package from Expedia, when I asked about that at check-in (I am fully bilingual BTW) the rep told me that was the problem. They were able to move my son and daughter to a beautiful ocean view 2-bed room because I explained I could only book King for them through Expedia (this might have been user error on my part). The rep discouraged UPGing our experience to a higher level of svc and rm, so did not pursue. Drinks on our plan were weak (social drinker). Meal times throughout the property were restricted, including the snack bar. The food was mainly for sustenance and not flavor. The exception was the food at specialty dining ‘The Grill’ (which is the no air conditioner snack bar and probably the reason it closes at 5p). My son did not go to because he didn’t have the required long pants, but we found too late they did not enforce the dress code. Though everyone is professional, we did feel an undercurrent of disdain towards us. Only 4 spots for kayak lessons for all hotel, but no hotel rep to provide it. Said it was due to rain, but it was sunny. Not even kayak company knew why there wasn’t anyone from the hotel to provide the lessons. The water sports company, On The Beach, was a positive and competitive rates. Need car to go do things outside of property.

My room was dirty. On the first day, I found a scorpion that came out of the bed, and I was very nervous and tense. They were doing construction work at the building l, and it was impossible to rest during the day. All I can say is that the food was delicious and the staff was very friendly.

For an all inclusive property, I was disappointed that I could only do dinner every 3 nights I stayed there. And the off label alcohol was less than impressive.

The property is not new but well kept the grounds and rooms are good. The all inclusive is OK. You get what you pay for. The alcohol is local and the food is just OK on the buffets. The two restaurants are good but you can only book one every 3 nights. We were lucky, we stayed three nights and were able to eat at the two restaurants (off season). The location of the resort is excellent, we had our own transportation, their parking is very convenient. They have bars and entertainment in the disco. I would stay there again, very convenient.

No bells and whistles no frills or trills just a place to relax.

It was just okay. Beach was beautiful, would only come back for the beach. Room and food were okay. Was not happy that our room was not ready at 3pm. I called 3 days prior and told them we would get there at 12 pm and our room wasn't ready until 3:30. Not a very good way to start or end vacation.. That is why I would not stay here again and would not recommend this resort.

This is a beautiful property with a scenic bay beach. The staff is very accommodating. The food at the restaurants is very good. The buffet food and variety requires improvement. Overall : great experience for the money
