"Lovely last minute stay"

Just returned from this lovely hotel. We booked last minute and was allocated a lovely room which was very spacious and beautiful kept. The breakfast was amazing couldn’t fault it one bit and all the staff were lovely. We will most certainly be returning.

"Great charming hotel in perfect location"

8.0

A very lovely hotel with great staff, great breakfast and charm. Everyone was extremely helpful and the location is perfect for exploring Bowness-on-Windermere! We had a small room in the main house which was plenty spacious and came with all the amenities necessary. The breakfast was excellent - great quality and good selection at the continental buffet with the made to order hot food. Well worth the price and would recommend!

"Nice stay"

8.0

Nice central location with lovely gardens. Hotel is spread around the garden and we were in the house which is old and in need of some upgrade though what has been done is good. Major issue was the noise as being on the ground floor every move made upstairs was amplified below. Hotel doesn't have a restaurant for the evening which is a shame though the bar was nice if empty apart from us and the breakfast was very good especially with all the fruit. Staff very friendly especially Dorothy and the gardner.

"Great breakie!"

Positioned centrally with car parking available. Older type and style hotel with adjoining buildings with some soundproofing issues. Great staff! Wonderful breakfasts.

"Faultless"

10.0

Well.. still as good as ever despite what some of the reviews indicate..I witnessed some very rude guests during our stay and the staff handled them with tact and were very professional..not sure I could’ve been so calm and remained so friendly.. some people should take a step back and think how reasonably priced and what an excellent location this gem of a hotel is… our room had just been revamped and it was just marvellous…beautiful blinds which gave us light and privacy and the new decor and floor were excellent.. and bathroom was just first class.. The breakfasts are freshly cooked..hot..nicely served and the staff are always willing to tweak it to suit individuals..the array of fresh fruit and berries is huge as well as cereals .. yoghurts..fruit juices..is impressive and there is constant toast refills and coffee at the table.. The staff are always friendly and have time to chat despite the huge workload they have.. I look forward to staying here again in the near future.. keep doing what you do as you have so much support and hopefully the detractors will find somewhere else although I guess they will never be satisfied… Thank you for our lovely stay..🥰

"terrible deputy manager"

2.0

Most of the staff were very friendly but when we went for breakfast we were met by the deputy manager who was extremely rude. We were a group of 6 adults and 2 children. She insisted that we had not checked in the 6 month old baby for breakfast and questioned our friends as to whether they had sneaked the baby in during the night! we were absolutely flabbergasted. We told her that we had all checked in at the same time the day earlier so the manager was fully aware of the number of guests but she insisted that we had not checked in as the manager had not mentioned a baby and she proceeded to show us the computer screen. She continued this conversation In the main dining room area within earshot of other visitors until I asked politely to have a discreet conversation in the reception area. We were made to feel like criminals and liars. She told us there was CCTV in the reception area. We asked her to check the CCTV as we had all checked in together the day earlier. She not only embarrassed us but all our family and friends that visited. We would never visit this hotel again which is a shame as the other staff were very good and the grounds themselves were nice.

"Exceptional"

Overall we had an excellent time at the burn how hotel. We did feel that the rooms could benefit from a little refresh, as some areas looked tired. The staff are simply fantastic! We had a small issue which was sorted very quickly and this was down to the efficiency of all the team. Jack in particular was professional, polite and is a credit to the hotel. Thank you.

"Quirky place with great staff!"

10.0

As regular visitors to Bowness on a very rare child-free weekend we decided to try the Burn How for the first time. It’s a quirky mix of having your own space that staying at a hotel brings but also feels quite homely like a B&B. A great stay with the best staff. A big thanks to Jack who made our stay. We’ll definitely be booking again!

"Good"

2.0

I wouldn’t usually ever write a review but I’ve had to make an account to warn others. If I could give this place -10 stars, I would. This is, without a doubt, the most disgusting, poorly run excuse for accommodation I have ever had the misfortune of staying in. I wouldn’t wish this guest house on my worst enemy. Let’s start with the filth. There were piles of thick dust everywhere – on the wardrobes, windowsills, lamps, you name it. The light fixtures looked like they hadn’t been cleaned since 1983, with layers of grime so thick they could qualify as insulation. The carpets were stained beyond recognition and stunk of damp and neglect. Skirting boards were cracked and crumbling, and the floors were covered in muck and debris, clearly not hoovered in days — maybe weeks. The entire place felt like stepping into a time capsule of bad taste. Outdated, mismatched decor, depressing lighting, and a general sense of abandonment made it feel more like a haunted house than a guest house. And then — the staff. Rude, and shockingly unprofessional. One Canadian man, in particular, seemed to be running some sort of ego-fueled power trip instead of a hospitality business. I was spoken to like a nuisance for daring to ask simple questions. Honestly, I’ve been treated better in hospital waiting rooms. The “cleaners” should be arrested. Not only did they refuse to change towels even after being asked, but I personally witnessed one young man SPIT IN A CUP to “CLEAN” it before wiping it out with a used towel and putting it back on the shelf. Let me repeat: HE. SPIT. IN. THE. CUP. No amount of mouthwash can undo that trauma. As if all this weren’t enough, they charge extra for a poorly managed breakfast that I wouldn’t serve to a stray dog. Cold food, flies on the fruit, and coffee that tasted like burned soil water. Total rip-off. Avoid this place. I’d rather sleep in a bus station toilet than stay here again. Honestly this place needs some serious help.
