Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal - All Inclusive

Well, we have been to this resort last year , we were fairly happy with the experience throughout the resort. I am writing this 1 week before our return trip and have made numerous attempts to make restaurant reservations finding that there is no availability!!! This is totally unacceptable as a rated 5* resort. We have been travelling for over 30 years. Most resorts have not required reservations prior to arrival and is very unfair to seniors who have trouble navigating through the app. I hope that someone in customer service will respond to my low rating in the coming days to resolve this issue.

Excellent location with awesome staff and facility. Beach and Pools were second to none. Exceptional Customer service and cleanliness. One week went by so fast. I am planning to go again for 2 weeks next time.

This is the second time I had the pleasure to experience this beautiful corner of paradise during the Christmas holidays.. Overall I had a great time with my wife and kids, but I wanted particularly thank the entertainment team for creating a wonderful atmosphere with a special thank you to Faby, Johnatan and Giovanni for delivering a great service on the activities you were on daily. Also a special thank you to the kids Club staff for making my kids experience amazing. To finish I need to mention one of the Tikalito Snack restaurant waitress Alma, who was previously on the main buffet area… My kids really love her, during the entire year between the 2 occasions we have been to the Bahia Principe Akumal they kept saying that they couldn’t wait for the holiday to happen because they wanted to meet Alma again!! She is so friendly and definitely a great asset for the resort!!! I will definitely try to come back again!! Massimo

Terrible overall experience, would not go back. The Good: The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The room (at least the one we stayed in) was very nice. The pools are nice (though the water is a bit cold). The beach at Akumal is small and a bit rocky, but very calm and clean water. Some of the staff were nice. The Bad: The food was not good. All the non-specialty dining (buffet, pool restaurant) is not good. Some of the specialty dining was good, some was not. The system to get reservations to the specialty dining is a nightmare. There are no slots available, we were not able to book every night, and the nights we were able to book, we had to go at 9:30PM. At Akumal you have access to all the dining in all the hotels, but be advised, a lot of the restaurants are adults only. I understand that, but when teenagers have to pay adult rates, but can't go to half the restaurants, it's frustrating. (Though it likely would not have mattered since these restaurants were fully booked as well). While some of the staff was very friendly, a lot of the staff was not. Many were sarcastic and had an overall "not my job" attitude. Overall, while the grounds and facilities were beautiful, I would absolutely NOT recommend due to the food and service issues. It's sad and unfortunately that a nice hotel is ruined by management issues, but could easily be fixed with better management. We talked with many people at the resort who shared the same thoughts as us.

We enjoyed our 11 night stay at Akumal. We managed to get restaurant reservation for 9 nights. Make sure to checkin 10 days before your arrival date and download the app. You can make reservation for restaurants on the app. Checkin was easy. We booked transportation through the hotel and it was a 90 min ride from Cancun airport. We had a renovated room which was very nice and spacious. Grounds are well kept. Trolley services takes you from between Coba, Tulum and the other two Adult Only Resorts. We visited all 5 resorts and liked Akumal best. If you travel without kids Tequila "Adult Only" maybe best. For families either Tulum or Coba. And Akumal is for all ! I heard you can book at Coba and get day passes for Akumal. Not sure how that works. Food at the restaurants were great! We visited most and liked them all. Buffett was a good with variety. Although it says "luxury" don't expect Ritz Carlton! Come with an open mind and you will be ok. Drinks are a hit or miss! I would recommend this resort and would consider coming back.

We moved to this hotel from the Sian Ka'an and this was supposed to be a lower grade hotel but it is far better in cleanliness, atmosphere, space, pool availability etc.

This was our second trip to this resort this year (but our 15th to Akumal/Coba beginning in 2007) and we could not have been happier. We took our family of six for a week over Christmas and had a great time. The rooms have just been revamped and they are beautiful- with excellent climate controls. The food was outstanding ,with wonderful buffets that provided a wide variety of food, freshly baked bread, and Mexican specialties. We enjoyed 4 trips to ala carte restaurants that were easy to book using the My Bahia app. Tequila is always a favorite, but all of the restaurants handled our reservations in a timely fashion and had wonderful food. Christmas dinner was a real treat with lobster tails and stone crab claws. Drinks were easily available, good quality, with brands like Absolut, Bacardi and even Buffalo Trace. Seas were too rough to sail but the volleyball was a favorite activity and the court was well maintained and a popular venue every afternoon. We like to play and it was a treat to find a decent court. We had no problem locating loungers on the beach each day-there seemed to be plenty. We found a variety of entertainment in the evenings and enjoyed dancing to live music in the Sports Bar and Tequila lounge. Overall this was a great trip and it seemed that the resort continues to improve the experience for guests.

Just go back from a one week stay at the Luxury Akumal and here's my honest review. Upon arrival the lobby seems underwhelming at first, but when you walk past the check in desks to the main pool area you begin to feel the magnificence of this place. We were 3 adults and 1 teen and booked two rooms. I had requested a king size bed in one and 2 doubles in the second. We didn't like the location of the first "villa" so asked if there was anything else and were given two rooms in the newly renovated area of the resort (villa 76) on the third floor. There are no elevators but the bell hop helped carry our bags up on the first day. The rooms were clean and well appointed. There was no door to the bathroom but there was a separate room for the toilet and shower enclosure which we love so that someone can go to the bathroom while someone else is still getting ready. The room was made up daily and we had no issues getting our towels replaced each day. Few minor things to note about the room: 1. I used a couple of tea bags during the week and neither of them were placed. 2. A light fixture did not work but they replaced it within the hour. 3. Our phone did not work for the whole week even though they were told, so I had to use the phone in the other room to call the front desk. 4. The wall mirror in the other room fell off the wall but was replaced the next day. These were minor inconveniences and did not impact our vacation. Pools: Water is a bit colder than we like but overall well maintained. We never had an issue getting lounge chairs. There is one swim up pool bar in the main pool. There is only one place to get towels which is by the main pool so get towels there before you go to the beach or quiet pool. Beach: Fantastic - pretty long if you want to go for a walk. Very little sargasm but tonnes of fish in the water. Ocean temp was super nice. Food: This is my biggest complaint. We were not informed ahead of time by either our travel company (Air Canada Vacations) or the hotel that restaurants were supposed to be booked in advance. So when we got there almost all restaurants were fully booked. We managed to get a reservation at the Italian restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed so asked to go back a second time, and the Brazilian steakhouse which was also good. We did not go to restaurants at any of the other sister resorts (there are 5 properties connected). So were ate most of our meals at the main buffet which was okay and the snack bar near the quiet pool which had surprisingly good chicken wings. Property: The property was well maintained although could have used better signage to get around as the property is huge. We walked over to the Tulum property and they had way better signage. Shuttle/Golf Carts: The property is huge and connected to 5 other resorts so the shuttle was great. We would either hop on to go to the lobby/buffet or take it to another resort or the "Hacienda" which is a shared area with shopping/casino/bar where activities are held including a Mexican Fiesta on Saturday nights (for additional cost). Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this resort and would not hesitate to go back. However, next time we will explore some of the other resorts and book restaurants in advance.

Stayed at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal with my family for 7 nights and 8 days. Had the most amazing experience of my life. The resort was amazing with stunning beach access and stunning dining and buffet experience. The hospitality, food, service, amenities were amazing. Would love to come back to the resort again.

We arrived at the resort with a family member who is handicapped, and initially the check-in process presented some unsatisfactory options that were concerning for us—especially since we were traveling with our extended family. However, Rodolfo and Geovanny at the front desk truly turned the situation around. They remained calm, patient, and attentive, took the time to understand our needs, and worked diligently to find a solution that met our expectations. Thanks to their professionalism and genuine care, our issues were resolved to our full satisfaction. Their help truly saved our extended family trip, and we are extremely grateful for the excellent service they provided.
