"3rd Time here and the best yet, so good we have just booked for next year"

10.0

First thing sorry for the late review, we have stayed here 3 times so far and what a complex. we have stayed at other hotels in Mexico but this is our favorite. From the moment we arrived and the guy on reception remembered us greeting us with a nice cold glass of fizz. and a big hug from the manager Kiomoko Kong, the staff really do make this hotel. there were 3 of us in 2 rooms, myself and my wife in one and our son in his room, we asked for Villa 83 in the adult only section. in Villa 83 Carolina greeted us with a big smile, what a lovely person nothing was too much trouble. she really did make our stay. when staying at Luxury Akumal or Sian Kahn, you have access to all 4 hotels via the golf carts, the drivers go out of their way to get you where you want to be and one even does a good Frank Sinatra impression :-). We managed to book 12 A la carte meals over the 14 nights we stayed here this year. about the same as previous years. tip get in early. we have had lots of great meals at this hotel but have to say Gladys in the Italian was so helpful. the professionalism of the one of the waiters in the Indian when rude guests spoke to him badly showed who had more class. we made a point of making his night with a few laughs and lots of well deserved praise. we had some good steaks in Katok. all of the restaurants have signature drinks when you arrive and if you treat them well they really look after you. We got up early a couple of mornings for walk along the beach and saw the army of staff working their socks off the clear the sargassum before the guests go to the beach. thank you all. the rooms in 83 are big with 4 poster beds shower Jacuzzi double was basins etc. mini bar good aircon you need it :-). we also tried the newly renovated swim up rooms for a few days just to compare, they were really nice but we still prefer the adults only section. just our choice may not be yours. in the sports bar Fanny and the rest of the team always make sure your glass is never empty. sorry I cant remember the names of all the staff but I will try harder next time. I have to finish by saying the manager Kimoko Kong made our holiday every time she saw us she made a point of coming and checking if everything was going well and if she could help with anything , (sorry if the spelling is wrong). we loved it so much that when we tried to think of where to go for our main holiday in 2026 everyone said the same thing so see you again in August 2026.

"Ok but wouldn’t stay here as my first choice"

6.0

We decided to do a day pass at Bahia Principe and chose the Akumal “Luxury” pass since it was the most expensive and gives access to three resorts. In reality, we only used two of them and probably should’ve just gone with the Tulum pass, because our kids preferred the teen club there. Surprisingly, the Luxury side didn’t even have one. The resort itself is massive, busy, and has a lot going on. The trolley system around the property is helpful. The beach area on the Akumal/Luxury side is protected and nicer, but the Tulum side beach was disappointing – rocky, rough water, and not much usable beach space. Food was one of the bigger letdowns. We tried the Luxury buffet and it was pretty underwhelming, especially considering the “Luxury” price tag. We didn’t bother trying the Tulum buffet, and honestly, that might have been worse. Towels felt like sandpaper, bathrooms were just okay, and overall the property felt “fine” but not truly luxury. Staff were generally okay but not overly warm. On the Luxury side we did get beach drink service, and like most places, tipping sped things up. On the Tulum side, there was none of that. On the positive side, it’s still a nice-looking property, the kids had fun, and it’s a decent way to kill a day if you’re looking for something to do. But if you go in expecting a true luxury experience, you’ll probably be disappointed. Compared to somewhere like the Oasis brand (which I’d say is a hard no), this is definitely better, but I’d still only give it about a 6/10 overall. Fun day for the kids, sure. Luxury? Not really.

"Pool lovers"

10.0

Jan 2025 4 Seniors 1 week Let me start off by saying it is one of my favourite all inclusive resorts that I’ve been to in all of Mexico! I have been to numerous hotels all over Mexico over the years. We would definitely return to this location! I would fly into Tulum airport next time, because it was 1 1/2 drive from the Cancun airport.Luckily we booked private transfers. Accommodations, we were on the top floor in the building closest to the adult only pool. There are trams that drive throughout the property. The rooms are clean and comfortable, but a little dated.I would upgrade to the premiere section next time, which is newly renovated. We faced a wall of trees. No View. At least everything was working in our room. We had no issues. Except the shower is situated in the bathtub. It was an inconvenience to get in and out of the tub inorder to shower, especially as a senior with knee issues. The beach area is smaller than other properties. But we are pool people. The adult infinity pool was perfect for us. We spent 6 out of 7 days there. Never an issue finding loungers, it’s close to beach and a smaller buffet, which doubles as steak house at night. The people are super! Friendly, courteous professional and very accommodating. Food; Lots of variety, sure to please everyone. Reservations for a la carte restaurants are hard to come by and limited, especially if you are a large group. We tried making them from home on the app without success. The only times available on any given night, at any of their a la carte were either 5:30pm or 8:30pm. The resort wasn’t even filled to capacity while we were there. We booked 3 dinner but canceled one.Remember to cancel within 24 hours or they will charge you for the no show.We slipped the concierge $10 and magically got one dinner switched from 8:30pm to 5:30pm We chose two early dinners because we do not like to eat late and did not want to miss the shows. I’m not sure why we could never get a 6-7pm reservation because while we were there we never saw a restaurant full to capacity. We surmised they don’t have the staff to serve a full restaurant. Live music is playing at the outdoor stage beginning at 7pm every night. The indoor stage shows began between 8-9pm. The shows were very good, especially enjoyed The Beatles . Food;Honestly the food is better and more varied at the buffet. We ate at the steak house. Which we enjoyed, the steaks were huge. We also ate at Italian a la carte, but didn’t find it authentic.I preferred the pasta at the buffet, where I could create my own pasta dish from the ingredients at the buffet. Huge variety everyday. All delicious! Stations like sushi,Mexican,Pasta,Roast Carving,Gluten free, children's,desserts and more. Entertainment is very good and varied but some shows are extra. We went to the Mexican fiesta, which was an extra $30 pp cdn. Not worth it. We loved this resort and can’t wait to go back! Shout out to Eric from entertainment team.He was very entertaining, even if you didn’t join in his games, just watching him was fun, he made everything more entertaining with his wit and humour. Would recommend!

"Absolutely top notch"

10.0

We were allocated a unrefurbished room in block 73 which really does need a refurbishment fair play it was clean but it was dark and old feeling but it’s Main brilliant thing was its position on the vast complex. It was virtually half way between the Akumal lobby and the adults only beach/infinity pool area another added bonus was it was quicker to walk to the newly opened tequila hotel lobby which we found was absolutely superb we used their buffet and lobby bar more than the akumals we enjoyed it that much.we did manage to book 12 ala carte restaurants for our stay of 14 nights when we arrived which surprised us after reading previous posts.we found food in all restaurants to be of a high quality All the staff we came into contact with were excellent nothing was to much trouble there were that many pools beach areas and places to eat you felt like you were on a cruise different places every day.plenty of things going on during the day to get involved in if you wished never had an issue getting sunbeds really enjoyed our stay will definitely be visiting again in the future

"Better than we thought, wonderful experience."

10.0

Such a beautiful, clean and friendly hotel. The staff make it and we would certainly come again. I lost my glasses and on a separate occasion lost my purse with about 2000 pesos in it. Both were handed in by members of staff, totally intact. So impressed with the honesty and kindness of all staff.

"No fears"

10.0

This was our fourth visit to the hotel, the last one some three years ago. I must admit that given some of the reviews posted, I was a little concerned that the usual high standards had been eroded. No fears, the standards were higher than ever, the refurbishment is well underway, the staff were friendly as ever, helpful particularly for us oldies. The bahia principe quality was there for all to see. Please do not be put off visiting this high class great value facility by a few bad reviews. GREAT HOLIDAY, many thanks Bahia.

"Good December holiday - with some areas for improvement"

8.0

We spent 9 nights in December at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal as a couple. We booked with TUI and used the app to do the pre-check in and book our a la carte restaurants, we booked 7 in total and got everything we wanted - make sure you use the website at midnight (Spain time, so 11pm UK time) and if your choices are not available keep checking as they slowly release more slots as the days go on. When we arrived it was 11pm at night, staff were friendly and helpful. My main issue with the stay was the room, we booked for one of the standard rooms as we generally dont spend much time in the room on holiday so the old fashioned style did not bother us, however on arrival when we got into the room there was an overwhelming smell in the room. To me it smelt like chemicals / chlorine, my partner thinks it was a damp smell - either way it was awful, so much so although we had been up 24 hours due to travelling i couldnt sleep for the smell. We went to reception and they offered to move blocks which we took, however the new block was exactly the same with the same awful smell. We decided to try and get some sleep and then in the morning spoke to the manager "Angel" at the desk and we payed for an upgrade to one of the newly upgraded rooms. This cost us $400, which is a lot of money but both me and my partner said we just wouldn't enjoy the holiday in the other room with the smell being as bad as it was. After this our holiday went fairly smoothly, the a la carte's were great! We would definitely recommend Katok and Grand Tortuga. The buffet was ok, but got repetitive, we generally only ate breakfast there and then used the pool side snack bars for our lunch meals to mix it up a little bit. My main issue with the buffet was the labels next to the food were wrong, so often you had to guess what you were putting on your plate. Not a massive issue for us, but an issue if you have allergies or intolerances. Drinks were plentiful and made using branded spirits, never waited more than a couple of minutes at the bars. Staff were all exceptionally friendly and hard working, we couldn't fault them. We didn't really see any of the nightly shows so cant comment on those, we did attend the Mexican Fiesta but were only there around half hour, unless you have children and want to keep them busy for an hour or so i wouldn't bother. The beach was lovely, we saw plenty of fish in the shallow waters and never struggled to get loungers. The pool was a bit busier, but always found sun beds near the back free. Overall it was a really nice holiday, the grounds are beautiful and the access to all the linked hotels is a real selling point for us! The main issue is rooms...we probably wouldn't return until all rooms are renovated up to a decent standard as the issue we had in the older room really let down the whole experience. If you can afford to upgrade, then do so!! Overall though, enjoyable holiday!

"Rooms Are A Far Cry From ‘Luxury’"

4.0

We are currently staying at the Bahía Príncipe Luxury Akumal, and unfortunately there is nothing “luxury” about this experience. This is not our first time staying at a Bahía Príncipe resort, but this visit has been so disappointing that I felt the need to leave a review. The rooms are by far the worst part of this stay and are noticeably worse than our previous visit to a Bahía Príncipe in the Dominican Republic. They are old, tired, broken, and unclean. We tried to ignore the condition of the room at first, but halfway through our stay we became genuinely concerned about safety. There were towel rails, light fittings, and plug sockets hanging off the walls, which is completely unacceptable. I will be uploading photos to support this. We asked if it was possible to move to a room that was simply clean and safe — not an upgrade — but received no real assistance. Instead, we were told that we had not booked a higher-tier package. While we understood this, it did not address our concerns. The only solution offered was for maintenance to come and “fix” the issues, which appeared to involve covering problems rather than properly resolving them, similar to the hole in the bathtub (see photos). Overall so far, this has been a very disappointing experience, and not what we expected from a resort marketed as “luxury.” Sadly, we would not return to this hotel or this hotel chain again.

"A Peaceful and Perfect All-Inclusive Experience"

10.0

We stayed at Bahía Príncipe Luxury Akumal for three nights and four days, and everything was perfect. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade, which made our stay even more special. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the entire resort was very clean and well maintained. The buffet options were fantastic with plenty of variety, and we also appreciated the availability of room service. While the room service food menu is limited, we actually loved being able to enjoy our meals in the privacy and peace of our room. Another great perk was having access to other resorts on the property, which gave us even more dining and activity options. Overall, it was an excellent experience and we would absolutely return.
