Our family had a wonderful stay at Banyan Tree Bintan. The villa was spacious, comfortable, and perfect for a family getaway. Waking up to the stunning sea view every day was truly unforgettable. What makes this place special is its beautiful natural surroundings. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, with fine white sand and crystal-clear water. Our kids especially loved swimming and spotting colorful fish right off the beach. It is the perfect destination for families who enjoy swimming, relaxing, and connecting with nature. The service throughout our stay was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. We would also highly recommend the spa experience—be sure to ask for Helno at the 8 Elements Spa, who is an excellent therapist and provided one of the best treatments we've had. A special thank you to Luna and Micha from the activities team for their warm hospitality and outstanding service, which made our stay even more memorable. Our family also enjoyed dining at Xana Beach Club, a beautiful beachfront restaurant and the perfect place to unwind and end each day. Highly recommended for beach lovers or anyone looking for a relaxing escape surrounded by nature, excellent service, and unforgettable experiences.

Our stay at Banyan Tree Bintan was, unfortunately, a tale of two very different experiences. On one hand, the property enjoys one of the most extraordinary natural settings in Bintan, complemented by a genuinely passionate team committed to creating memorable guest experiences. On the other, the physical condition of the resort has fallen noticeably behind the standards one would expect from a flagship brand. Ultimately, while there were many aspects of our stay that we genuinely loved, the hardware shortcomings became too significant to overlook and, regrettably, diminished what could otherwise have been a truly exceptional experience. For those considering Banyan Tree Bintan, some context may be helpful. This is an old property, and its age is immediately apparent. Many elements now feel overdue for comprehensive renewal. We were assigned Villa 118. One of the property’s greatest strengths is its all-villa concept, which remains highly appealing. The villas are generously proportioned and come equipped with either a plunge pool or a full private pool. However, our villa suffered from a number of hardware-related issues. Unfortunately, the resort was fully occupied during our stay, making a room change impossible. The most notable issues included: (i) Extremely poor sound insulation. During the day, we could clearly hear the engines of fishing boats passing in front of the villa. At night, rainfall sounded remarkably loud, to the point that it frequently disrupted sleep. (ii) a persistent damp wood odour that lingered throughout the villa during our entire stay. (iii) a malfunctioning bubble feature in the plunge pool. (iv) numerous signs of age and wear, including doors that would not fully close, visible gaps between fittings, and finishes that no longer functioned as intended. Yet despite these shortcomings, we found ourselves repeatedly drawn back by the setting. The natural setting is simply magnificent. The views are among the finest we have encountered in Bintan, and we were fortunate enough to witness one of the most spectacular sunsets. There is a sense of tranquillity and immersion in nature here that feels genuinely rare. The setting is so compelling that, at times, it almost persuades you to overlook the resort’s physical imperfections. The people are another undeniable strength. Every interaction felt sincere and guest-focused. The team consistently demonstrated warmth, professionalism, and a genuine desire to create meaningful experiences. A particular highlight was dinner at Saffron. The culinary experience was exceptional and comfortably among the best meals we have enjoyed in Bintan. Which brings us to perhaps the most important point: Banyan Tree Bintan does NOT need reinvention. It already possesses the ingredients that many resorts spend years trying to create: an extraordinary natural setting, a strong sense of place, and a team that genuinely cares. What it needs is renewal. It could reposition Banyan Tree Bintan as the benchmark for the island and restore it to the level its location, heritage, and brand deserve. When that day comes, we will gladly be among the first guests to return.

Fantastic experience staying here, staff are so welcoming & the room was beautiful. Breakfast was the best breakfast we have ever eaten in a hotel & we travel a lot! Our only slightly negative comment would be that family groups are put next to couples wanting to escape & get some solitude, so our evenings were rather noisy from the young children who had been left in the next door chalet unsupervised, seemed a shame as the hotel had quite a few empty chalets at the time we stayed. Overall though, this is a fantastic place to stay & all the staff we met are so friendly.
