"Stunning views, style over substance"

6.0

Parking up at the hotel you are blown away by the building and its proximity to the Thames a trulyidyllic setting. Check in wasn’t as idyllic with a frosty welcome and waiting around to be shown to my room. No welcome or personal touch, a polite ‘how was your journey/can we help with luggage’ wouldn’t go amiss. A walk in silence to the cottage with an awkward moment as the lights were worked out and the breakfast process explained. The room was lovely, shower was amazing, and an extremely comfortable bed; but the noise from the corridor behind was a little distracting. Breakfast was a little disappointing, no paper as requested and no subtle extras like sauces, expected for a cooked breakfast. Dinner was again set in a beautiful arena, the menu was over priced and personally I felt inflated because of the location. Service was bordering on intrusive with too many hands on deck. The food was whipped away as you took your last bite and your glasses were checked to see if they were empty. A lovely dinner setting but not as relaxing as one should be in the surroundings. The food was ok but not what the price dictated. Some refinement and personal touches required to make the experience as idyllic as the setting.

"One night stay"

6.0

This is a lovely building and situated on the banks of the Thames. The staff are all very nice and helpful, there is free parking ( although you do have to cross an extremely busy road with no crossing). My room (6) had a lovely balcony and great views. The room was comfortable and spacious. I do have to add a few concerns however. The complimentary tea and coffee is bizarre. Most hotels have a nice tray in your room, not here you can only have it delivered in the evening after 7. Why I cannot work out. I was asked when I checked in if I wanted complimentary tea and coffee I said yes and was told it will be delivered between 7-8 pm? It was. Breakfast is also a bit different as you have to book it on a door hanger the night before. It is then delivered within a 30 min time slot the next morning. Trouble is there isn’t a dining table in your room just a coffee table. I found it uncomfortable to eat my breakfast this way. It would probably suit some. You can request eating breakfast in the bar area if you want to but it just feels a bit like they don’t want you to so I didn’t. The bed was big and actually firm but comfortable but you get a blanket! No duvets, this is just so wrong in my opinion. Biggest problem for me though was that the hot water was not hot!! The bath had to be topped up with 6 kettles of boiling water and it was barely tolerable. I did mention this and receptionist just said that it’s an old building! This needs to be sorted out. Not terrible but needs work.

Lovely setting, welcoming staff,. Good restaurant with excellent service. Rooms comfortable, but dated. Our room was dangerous with the staircase and the access from bedroom to bathroom.

"Wonderful short break"

10.0

A great place for short retreat combined with a bit of a treat. Welcome and service during the stay could not have been warmer, but always discrete. Lovely public areas with roaring fires, superb meals and a bolt hole from frozen weather.
