"A lovely beachside escape from NYC. Expensive though."

8.0

Location, facilities, food and staff all exceptional

The rates are expensive, especially when you add the fees and taxes. The wifi was poor to level I switched off and used my own carrier to hotspot

"Donโ€™t hesitateโ€” go!"

10.0

The location is amazing. The view is stunning. The rooms are gorgeous, well maintained and superbly appointed. The pool and deck ambiance are superb. The staff is overwhelmingly welcoming and warmโ€”- they canโ€™t do enough to make your stay wonderful, and smile while doing it. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and would love to return here in the future.

"Hereโ€™s the Dealโ€ฆ"

8.0

The Asbury Ocean Club is a beautiful hotel within a high end condo. Rooms are all on the 4th floor, along with an inviting living room area (utilized by residents and hotel guests) and a large pool deck. We arrived at the tail end of the 4th of July weekend and Iโ€™d describe the pool scene as South Beach on steroids. Keep that in mind If thatโ€™s not your thing. The pulsing scene did quiet down on Monday but the pool deck was still crowded with couples and familiesโ€”chairs are close together and there is limited shadeโ€”not relaxing for us and a disappointment as the website photo indicates poolside serenity. Moreover, access to the busy public beach (directly in front of the hotel) requires a fee--the hotel does provide chairs but not umbrellas. On the positive side, our dune view room was lovely (albeit small) with a patio and two lounge chairs, but again, no shade. The room smelled great and was perfectly clean. The A/C was effective and quiet. The biggest surprise was the terrific food. The restaurant has a low profile, and is basically like a private dining club for hotel guests and condo residents. Everything we ate at three breakfasts and dinners was delicious. Even the tea selections and coffee were superior. On the other hand, the restaurant was understaffed and while servers were kind, there were several long waits and mistakes in orders. Asbury Park is more of an active versus elegant destination, with several shops, restaurants and ice cream stands within walking distance on the boardwalk, and other options a few minutes away in the downtown area. The adjacent towns are quieter. Overall, we felt very comfortable hereโ€” the the front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating, although high occupancy precluded our ability to receive an Amex Fine Hotels upgrade. We would consider returning, perhaps at a less crowded time of year, or during the summer if we could figure out how to access the adjacent townโ€™s beaches.

I am often a solo traveler and i appreciate when a hotel carves out a space for me. Much of the AOC attracts a sophisticated adventurer with stunning design that weaves landscape into architecture and back, a dining experience limited to guests only and quiet well appointed rooms with luxurious linens and a trust in their clientele that the Bluetooth speaker they provide is for that rooms enjoyment only. So to arrive on a sunny summer weekend to find the pool one toddler shy of being overrun with splash battles and the signature shriek of children who are learning the hard lessons of even a privileged life (frankly I enjoy chicken fingers too) really let the air out of my balloon. And though the unfettered play of children kept me from spending as much time on the sundeck as i would have liked, the managementโ€™s gracious solicitation of my request for feedback and their genuine consideration of my suggestion for an โ€œadult swimโ€ leads me to believe thereโ€™s still a place for me on the Jersey Shore.

"Coincidences or Evidence of Decline?"

8.0

It's a wonderful place, but seems to have come down quite a bit from the wonderful stay we enjoyed just a year ago. It just seemed understaffed and under-managed, and except for the small and mostly inspired team at the front desk and a harried and hardworking bellman, the staff seemed sparse and disheartened. We were there from Monday to Thursday, and it was far from crowded, but everything ran late or inconsistently. All of this made us fear that this gem may have fallen on hard economic times. Or, at the very least, is understaffed. It's a beautiful place in a wonderful location. A rating of good here is below our expectations. We had such a wonderful stay a year ago that we'll try it again in the Fall and report.

"Beautiful Property, Declining Experience"

6.0

Got itโ€”hereโ€™s your revised review with the em dashes removed, using commas or periods for clarity instead: โธป Weโ€™ve stayed at the Asbury Ocean Club six times over the years: solo, with our daughter, for the Fourth of July, and during other seasons. Weโ€™ve always loved the stunning property, beautifully designed rooms, and overall sense of luxury. But after this last visit, weโ€™re seriously reconsidering whether weโ€™ll return. Daily housekeeping now requires a call to request service. That means beds wonโ€™t be made and fresh towels wonโ€™t be provided unless you specifically ask. At this price point, thatโ€™s frustrating and unexpected. During our stay, a shower door broke and was โ€œfixedโ€ in a way that made it unsafe. Our daughter nearly fell. A fire alarm went off in our room and took 10 minutes to shut off, with no real urgency from staff. On a busy day at the pool, the bathrooms were out of toilet paper, and towels were constantly running out. One night, a group of drunk residents created a scene at the bar, making it uncomfortable for guests and staff alike. This kind of behavior, paired with the general tension between residents and hotel guests, gave the hotel a chaotic and unwelcoming energy. There was no visible management to step in or address the situation. This hotel used to feel special. Now it feels understaffed, poorly managed, and far from five-star. We hope the team addresses these issues. Weโ€™ve loved this place for years, and it would be a shame to stop coming back.

The suite we stayed in was incredible. Its beauty was only outmatched by the view of the ocean from the pool, which the suite has direct access to. The entire staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They helped make our stay that much better. We strongly recommend staying in the suite, itโ€™s definitely worth every penny.

Excellent! Please note Michelle at the front desk is a valuable part of the charm of this hotel and a pleasure to deal with. Rohan & Vikrim ( sorry if I spelled his name wrong) amazing Bar staff who were so nice and down to earth but also enthusiastic about their job service beyond what I could ask for. The most special staff is George ! George is a great worker and I was so happy to see him again and wish him the world and more
