Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers

When we booked with hotels.com we specified bed type as king size. We were going to check in late so I called them around 2 to inform them of this. However, they called at 6 to find out if we were still coming so there was obviously no message put on our reservations or lack of communication between the reception people. When we arrived at 6.30 I noticed that the room type given was twin beds. I corrected them then they indicated that we would have to wait 30-45 mins for our rooms to be ready. Cherie, the person who checked us in was polite and kind and issued drinks vouchers for us while we waited. The hotel overall was stunning. I was very impressed by the decor and the rooms were comfortable and clean. It was the perfect place for us to stay as we were going to the wanderers stadium the next day. We will definitely be back and hope that the check in process will be more efficient next time.

The Protea Wanderers is an ok hotel. The traffic noise is horrendous. Absolutely no question of opening the window on a hot summer's evening in this hotel. The one meal I had at the hotel was good but not great. For the rest a solid 4 star and at the price, reasonable value.

I had a puncture near the hotel & luckily the manager was in the car behind me. He stopped, organised changing my tyre in 5 minutes, helped me with the car rental company and took us to where we were going, so we didn't need to drive. Another day I was sick from exhaustion. A different manager phoned regularly to check and see if I was OK. When I asked for toast and coke, he brought it up himself! All the other staff are friendly and helpful. Hotel pool is open 24 hours a day and swimming at night was an amazing experience!

I had a great experience; the staff was amazing and welcoming, the shuttle could drive you to near places where you could catch the Gautrain and other public forms of transportation. It is located near Hyde Park, Sandton and Rosebank malls which was useful for us. The room was clean and very comfortable, I enjoyed my stay very much!

OUTSTANDING. Welcoming and friendly staff! Lovely location. Can't fault and will gladly stay again. Smallest details and touches made for a lovely relaxing stay!!!!
