The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - Handwritten Collection

Very nice historical hotel. 10-15 minute walk to Malioboro St 5-10 minutes from the train station. The front desk staff particularly Ghita was very helpful giving ideas of restaurants close by and arranging taxi service. The buffet breakfast has a wide variety of food, the only complaint (which I addressed with management) was a lot of the hot foods were not hot some cool. Had a nice room overlooking the pool.

We met the most friendly & helpful hotel reception staff like Teza & Eko as well as the housekeeping & restaurant staff, who promptly provided us our requested items to our room.

Great value and most importantly very hospitable staffs. Every time I have a chance to stay at the Phoenix, not one time I ever felt unattended. The customer/ guests experience seems to be one of the highest elements that the hotel has in its core. It is reflected through Ms Gita and Ms Arini who have been greeted and assisted me with sincerity and made me feel so welcome with greatest comfort. Thank you The Phoenix, your highest quality have permeated through your staff.

This hotel is beautiful. It is old but very charming and it is managed very well. The staff is outstanding. Thank you, Noval, for the driving for the day trips! The breakfast is the most varied that I’ve seen in Asia so far. I had a massage at the spa that was wonderful.

We stayed one night at the hotel. The property itself is beautiful, a stately old mansion converted to a hotel. Well decorated with handicrafts, almost like staying in a museum. Good friendly service all around. They upgraded us to a room with a balcony overlooking the pool. A good size room other than the cramped bath and toilet area. The damp smells from the shower are probably an indication of plumbing that needs attention. Overall whilst it is a lovely property with a potential to be outstanding with more careful maintenance and it some areas a long overdue makeover.

We love the hotel and enjoyed the extensive breakfast buffet. We ate dinner there and the food was good. Bizarrely, wine was unbelievably expensive with the cheapest bottle being over $200. When we said that the restaurant and the front desk they said that a lot of people say that. Roaster and bear around the corner is a very good restaurant with $30 bottles of wine.

Beautiful hotel with historical artifacts. Staff very welcoming and friendly.
