The buggy system, the staff - whenever we raised an issue (mostly for late buggy as we have an elderly) the ones we talked to acted like it’s not their problem

Katathani is a very large resort, and with that size comes a lack of personalised service. Breakfast is spread across multiple restaurants, but the quality is only average. Coffee is self serve from a machine, the selection is limited, and vegetarian options are minimal. Even in the room, the coffee provided is instant and honestly, who serves instant coffee in a 5 star hotel? It’s simply not the standard you expect at this level. We booked a Junior Suite, though it didn’t feel like a suite at all. It was roughly the same size as my daughter’s standard room, in fact, hers was slightly bigger. Our air conditioner leaked constantly, and despite reporting it, the hotel simply kept mopping the floor rather than fixing the issue. We also had mosquitos in the room; even after requesting spray several times, no one ever brought it. Ground floor suites also lack privacy with the lights on, you must close the curtains because the pool area looks straight in. The drinks included in the Luxury Escapes package were disappointing. Cocktails were inconsistent and overly sweet, and there was no wine available. The “all inclusive” description is misleading: if you dine at an onsite restaurant that isn’t part of the Luxury Escapes set menu list, you only receive a 350 THB credit per person lunch and 750 for dinner. At one lunch venue, that amount barely covered a bowl of chips. For what you pay, the value simply isn’t there. The kids’ area is decent but feels like a concrete jungle and gets busy. I was also surprised the resort charges 200 THB per person for the shuttle to Patong, something many hotels offer for free. The beach itself is often full of rubbish in the mornings, and it doesn’t seem to be cleaned regularly. Luxury Escapes advertises “dinner at any onsite restaurant,” but the Japanese restaurant is excluded. The drink package is poor, limited, low quality options and not worth it. Communication is handled through the hotel’s app, but messages frequently go unanswered, including restaurant booking requests. Service overall was disappointing. Afternoon tea was included at Naka, yet when we arrived, they had nothing available to serve. Food across the resort has generally been good, but breakfast is a let down, and many of the restaurants are full of birds that will take food off your plate if you’re not watching. The bed in our room was comfortable, and despite the leak, the air conditioner was quiet. Internet was unreliable, constantly dropping out and struggling to load even basic webpages. The hotel’s reliance on their app for communication doesn’t help when messages are ignored. Overall, this resort wasn’t for me, and I wouldn’t return. However, families with young children may find it suits their needs better.

My family and I recently stayed at Katathani Phuket Beach Resort, and I honestly can’t speak highly enough of the staff. Unfortunately, I became quite sick during our holiday and ended up needing to go to hospital. Being unwell overseas is stressful, but the care and kindness shown to me by the staff was incredible. They helped arrange everything, made sure I was looked after, and checked in on me afterwards. It was such a comfort knowing we had people around us who genuinely cared. A special thank you to Pon, who was absolutely wonderful, and to all of the staff at the Mango Bar. Every day they greeted us with a smile and somehow always remembered exactly what we liked to drink. Those little personal touches made us feel so welcome and really added to our holiday. I’d also like to mention Tida and the lovely massage ladies. They were always so friendly, always smiling and saying hello whenever we walked past. Their warmth and kindness never went unnoticed. One of the sweetest surprises was receiving flowers and a birthday cake from the resort while I was recovering. It was such a thoughtful gesture and meant so much to me and my family. The resort itself is beautiful, with a stunning beach and fantastic facilities, but what truly makes Katathani special is the people. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, caring and professional. Thank you to everyone at Katathani for looking after us so well and making us feel like family. We came home with wonderful memories and are already looking forward to coming back.

We recently stayed in a Teen Suite Swim Out, and from a pure facilities perspective, we had no complaints. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, and the cleaning staff were absolutely fantastic. However, the appalling lack of security at the Kids Club and the indifferent management completely ruined what should have been a special holiday. 1. Rigid Management vs. Exceptional Service from Violet Months before our arrival, I reached out with a very important request regarding a specific, significant date for our family—something that was a make or break for our holiday. I was completely palmed off by front line staff. Once on site, the only reasonable person we encountered was Violet at the tour desk. She was absolutely wonderful, listened to us, and tried her hardest to accommodate our request after the front line staff turned us down. Unfortunately, despite all of Violet's stellar efforts, upper management ultimately let us down. I understand that not every request is possible, but given they knew how important this date was to us, the complete lack of effort from management was disheartening. They didn't even bother with a basic gesture like a card, chocolates, or a fruit plate on the day to acknowledge it. It was a massive missed opportunity for hospitality, and if it weren't for Violet, the service experience would have been a total zero. 2. Shocking Kids Club Safety and Security Failures Our children only attended the Kids Club for two days, and both days were filled with major safety violations. On the first day, I coincidentally walked past and found my children outside the supposedly locked play area completely unsupervised. The adult staff member present was too busy chatting to other customers to notice. I immediately warned them and complained to management, demanding that under no circumstance should any child be allowed out of those gates without a parent. They apologised and promised it wouldn't happen again. On the second day, they completely ignored my warning. I found out my youngest had been let out of the gates multiple times. When I confronted the staff, their excuse was that the children "needed water". Unbelievably, there is no water available inside the play area. Instead, staff allow children to leave the secure zone to go to the cafe within the centre to buy drinks. The resort is literally putting children at risk just to make a bit of extra money on sales. Once a child steps outside that gate, there is zero security. The hotel grounds are easily accessible to the public, and the swimming pools are right on the doorstep. With the very real dangers of drowning or stranger danger, this is a disaster waiting to happen. After a second furious complaint, management sent a pathetic looking fruit platter and promised to speak to staff, but it was clear they did not actually care. We refused to let our children return for the rest of the trip. Final Verdict The beautiful rooms, amazing facilities, great cleaners, and Violet’s amazing efforts at the tour desk do not make up for the fact that upper management failed on basic hospitality and, more importantly, failed to keep our children safe. If you aren't looking to leave your kids at the club, go for it. Otherwise find elsewhere.
