Hotel was ‘oud’, en dat komt met gebreken. Ondanks dat zou de schoonmaakploeg wel iets beter zijn werk kunnen doen.

We've been coming here for several years now and always look forward to staying. Managers, Angela and Peter are always so friendly, helpful and professional. The rooms have a charming historical character and the breakfast is fantastic. The hotel is in a perfect central location which is a plus when wanting to explore.

The hotel is an interesting, slightly quirky building, an old coaching inn that's been there hundred of years. The staff were helpful and friendly, and always available. It's right in the middle of Colchester, near the castle, museums and all the amenities.

We were in a room on the first floor at the front, and it being a Friday night it was incredibly noisy with all the nightlife of the high street right outside the window. I went and spoke to the staff and they very helpfully moved us to a quiet and lovely room in the back of the hotel. This hotel has some fine quiet comfortable rooms up at the back - if you want a good nights sleep do specify you would prefer one of these.

The rooms are old fashioned and the hotel with all its original tudor style is perfect for anyone looking for a historical building. It couldnt be more central in Colchester. The breakfast wasn't huge but there were options including cereal and cooked.

Nice old feel

The building itself is beautiful. Its a listed building but it seems to be used as an excuse to not do anything to it.

The mattress was so uncomfortable that it actually bruised me! There was shouting and screaming outside until 1am, which I know wasnt the hotels fault but it just summed up my stay. The shower was either burning hot or freezing. There was food from a previous guest around the bed. There was mold and mildew in the bath room and I believe the water from the taps gave me a bad stomach because as soon as I stopped drinking the water and bought bottled, I got better. Also this location is not accessible at all.

As soon as i walked through the door i was in awe of the arctectual aspects of the building. First impressions i was impressed, as i had never been in a Tudor building previously to this occassion. I liked that the hotel is in a central location i went to the book shop opposite the street to ask where it was only to be sent back across the street with a giggle. The breakfast was good and, my room i srayed in was comfortable, The staff were lovely and helpful a real friendly feel.

Location

Very hot, window did not open after about 2 inches as they had a pigeon problem. Filthy bedding, everything dilapadated. No hot water. Only one of the lights worked. TV did not work Spent the night in my car which was much more clean and comfortable
