UNPLAN Village Hakuba

Location was great and having breakfast included was a bonus before hitting the slopes. Renovated room was lovely but small.

Atmosphere was missing from the hotel. Our rooms were renovated which was great, the staff were friendly, but obviously half of the building had been renovated and the other was still stuck in the 80’s. Strong sewer smell in the boot room with Lack of ventilation. Exterior stairs weren’t clear of snow until 5pm after significant snow overnight.

格安スキーヤーズベットにありがちな、この値段だからしょうがないよね的な諦めは一切なく、お部屋も布団もトイレも清潔だったのは嬉しい。なおかつ、ちゃんと、部屋を温めてくれる気遣いも、いいねー モーニングも、目玉焼きの出来立てを食べられるし、内容も良かった。めっちゃ、コスパよし！

初めての利用で、案内メールの内容だけでは、情報不足でした。タブレットがどこにあるのか迷いました。また、ルームに上がる入り口は、一階だけの表記でしたので、二階は違う入り口かと、これまた、迷いました。二階の案内も併記した方が良いな。

got free upgrade to square 8 which is part of the same property group. I really enjoyed the stay and facilities there

The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the gondola. The breakfast hit the spot with pancakes and or eggs. The room looked newly renovated. The equipment room was great for storing snowboards, etc. The staff were helpful. Buy your tickets at the hotel it’s cheaper than at the mountain. The shower and bathroom area were really nice. Great water pressure and hot water. Nice amenities.

I didn’t like having to pay for the sauna. Most hotels in Japan have free Onsen’s etc. I was not a fan of the noise I could hear from the bar in the basement. There is a skateboard ramp inside. I was on the 3rd floor and could hear the patrons in the bar and skating on the ramp. It was open every night until 1:30am. The beds are like sleeping on the floor. A topper would be nice. The rooms need a couple of drawers, towel hooks, and more hangers. A same night stand or ledge would be nice to put your items on.

I booked a triple room at Unplanned very early in the season and paid ¥70,000 per night, which was immediate payment and non-refundable. When I tried to cancel a few days later, only a 50% refund was offered despite being nearly six months in advance. As more accommodation opened up later and prices dropped, this review reflects expectations at that price point. Pros: friendly staff, acceptable breakfast, close to the gondola, small discounts on lift tickets and rentals.

Cons: aimed at the backpacker market rather than families; very small triple room with no room between beds; older building than expected; thin walls and night-time noise (including from the basement bar); very basic facilities; parking not guaranteed, costs extra, and carpark was icy. The week before our stay, I received scam WhatsApp messages claiming my paid booking would be cancelled unless I provided credit card details. The messages referenced my booking information, which was concerning. I reported this to the property and to Booking.com. Fine for backpackers and would have felt reasonable at around ¥25,000 per night, but at ¥70,000 per night it was very poor value. Don’t panic-book early — more options do open up.
