"A trip back in time"

6.0

We arrived on Monday of Christmas week for a 4 night stay. We booked through Interval and when we arrived at the main reception building, we were directed to drive up the road to a timeshare office. Once there, check in was quick and our unit was located literally next door to the timeshare office building. We were in a one bedroom unit within a quad of buildings, each having 6-8 units. I think we were the only guests in the entire quad for our first two nights. On Christmas Eve, a few more guests arrived. Our unit, like the rest of the resort, is dated and a bit run down. The decor is a mixture of original (late 70's?) and updates here and there that are more recent. The living room and bedroom have independent wall-mounted heating units which worked well. The televisions (one in living room and one in bedroom) are not "smart" but did come with dvd player (so bring dvd's). We had to pull a big piece of furniture away from the wall to connect the dvd player to the tv as it had been discounted. The lighting in the unit is very dim, with wall sconces and lamps instead of recessed lighting. The bathroom is especially poorly lit. The small kitchen is not the original but was updated at some point. Kitchen could use a few basic items that weren't included: no cutting board, muffin tins or baking sheets, dishwasher pods, non-stick pans, ice tray or ice maker. Laundry is in the hallway and a bit pricey at $2.50 for washer and $2.00 for dryer. I've included a picture of one of the schedule of events (they provide a detailed itinerary for each day on paper available at timeshare office or main desk, not digital). Some of the events didn't happen because no one showed up to participate. We did use the pool, which was nicely heated and we had it all to ourselves. We made use also of the sauna upstairs. The hot tub was broken and according to staff, had been for some time with no eta on when it would fixed. There is very little to do in the surrounding area, as Callicoon and Jeffersonville are small, rural towns. We went skiing at Big Bear Masthope one day (and would have a second day but a somewhat heavy snow made us hesitant to venture out). We spent our nights mostly going to the game area and playing pool or ping pong as the resort events were limited or didn't happen. We tried visiting the bar in the main building and Hole 19 in their golf clubhouse. Neither had happy hour or cocktail specials despite a note on the itinerary highlighting them. The housekeeping staff were great; coming on Christmas Eve to make sure we had plenty of supplies in advance of Christmas Day when they would be off. We really appreciated the extra towels and supplies in advance of the holiday. Grounds crew shoveled early the morning we had upwards of 6 inches of snow overnight and we were able to head out later in the day easily as they plowed early. Our unit was a fairly short walk to the main building, so we didn't use the free shuttle more than once. However, I noticed it runs continuously all over the resort, taking guests wherever they'd like to go. We did not eat any meals at the cafe or restaurants, so I can't comment on their food at all. Our unit had a kitchen and we cooked almost all meals there. We ventured out to Callicoon Distillery one evening and had great meatloaf sandwiches and drinks. That's worth an excursion if you visit. I really don't like to give a review of less than 3 stars and try to be balanced and fair. I did read many comments prior to our trip and I knew that the resort would not be new and that there were some issues. Even so, I was a bit surprised by just how much needs attention here. I can imagine how Villa Roma was in its heyday and I hope with investment and strategic vision they will once again. We would love to return one day if that happens.

"Disappointing"

4.0

The only good thing was the food. Entertainment : the comedian wasn't funny the magician was okay. The evening music in the lounge at 11:00pm said adult music but when we went there were teenagers about 17 to 20 yeas old) dancing on the floor with drinks and they spilled them . so we left. Will not go back

"Nice find"

8.0

I liked the golf course. I liked the staff and how caring and let me be myself. I liked working the tables and taking pics or the groups. They gave me some food to go for my efforts. All-in-all, a nicelocal getaway. I wouldn't mind trying a different room. Thank you.

"Aquapower with Susan"

10.0

At the beginning of October a friend and I had the opportunity to attend an Aquapower class with Susan. It was certainly a wonderful experience and a great way to start our day. The way Susan explained the exercises and conducted the class made us feel welcome and engaged. It was a low impact but exhilarating hour well spent.

"Another enjoyable stay"

8.0

Another enjoyable stay at VR. This was our 5 stay and our 4th exchange through Interval in 3 years. As always its the staff that makes VR a great good stay. Yes there are some updates of units that are needed but did notice upgrades have started. TV are in need of upgrades for sure. Housekeeping staff always asking and service needed and are quick in giving unit supply and towels. Have to catch them in morning though. We got breakfast most morning at. Roman Cafe by elevator. Breakfast sandwich was filling for sure. Ate 3 dinners also there all very very good and price was reasonable. Its the STAFF on the Roman Cafe whi were always gave great service, Christian Adalet and all others dis a great job always, Mike up in the Bar on mezzanine was a pleasure to batter with. Hope VR upgrades will only add to the to the positives. Your staff are the ones who make VR a place we enjoy coming back too.

"Fabulous"

10.0

This is our 2nd year coming. We stayed a week each time. It was such a wonderful experience. We had gratis shows every night and in the morning Susan's water aerobics (also included) was outstanding with a very relaxing hot tub afterwards. There were plenty of other activities and an Italian Feast offered in the club house and dining room. We enjoyed the Starbucks coffee ,bowling and exploring the many little town centers around the resort. This place is a Gem!

"Awful experience, dealing with bedbugs"

2.0

The room had bed bugs, out dated , dirty and smelled. When I called the front desk to let them about the bugs, there was no shock, apology or comment besides I will see if I can get you another room.
