The Merchant City Inn

Extemely loud until late at night. We picked the hotel because of central location and an interesting building. It also offered a family room with another bed for our daughter. The room was small but adequate. What made our stay terrible, was the extremely loud noise from the surrounding area. There was loud music late into the night, making sleeping impossible. This was on a weeknight. I would never stay here again. Very thankful I only booked one night.

Very good hotel in city centre, close to railway stations, very friendly staff and we had a lovely spacious room. It would have been an excellent overall stay but for the continental breakfast which was rather basic (not a fan of processed sliced cheese), but as we were in a rush to catch a train it didn't matter that much.

Website description of "on site parking" is false advertisement. When I questioned front desk staff where parking is on arrival, the young man gave an attitude telling me there's no parking at the hotel. As I further questioned where parking is available, he inpatiently said it is "behind the hotel". Took awhile to find, but there is a public garage two blocks away, which we can purchase discounted voucher from hotel - this is NOT on site parking! Felt more like a hostel inside of room. Beds are soft with springs digging up. That said, it is located in city center with small market right around corner. Staff at breakfast and check out was nicer than that initial young man, but his initial greeting left a bad taste, plus the false parking info was not right.

Location was good for sites but very noisy. The breakfast was really weak, unless you paid extra. I don't expect much from a continental breakfast-but more than that. Put us in a room where the wifi was apparently unable to reach. (they have to know this is a problem) I had to sit uncomfortably in the hall all evening to get the work done I needed. I was glad to check out early.

This hotel was more like a hostel. Glasgow was busy when I booked and I paid £169 for a room with 3 single beds, which is all they had left. The room wasn't in the main building, so I had to walk outside to the very top of an annexe, that housed 6 rooms. They took a swipe of my credit card, should I cause any damage to the room or lose my key. The room itself, was already damaged. The lock on the door was loose, there were holes/dents in the wall underneath the TV. The floor to the shower room was dirty. The bed lined was thin with duvets that were didn't go over the edges of the bed. The towels were clean, but very thin. I did speak to the guy on reception, but he had no other rooms to offer me. I felt so unsafe, as a single woman, I pushed the bedside table up against the door when I went to bed. I would NEVER stay here again and will now be mindful of booking any hotel where I've not stayed before

Centrally located for good access to downtown. Otherwise, not great.

Excellent location, within walking distance of shops and bars.

Really disappointed Unable to gain access at 12.00, Luggage left in unsecure room, accessible to all. Room on top floor, no lift. Room basic with no soap in dispenser and no other toiletries Mattress really thin Windows would't stay open and no air con Shower cubicle tiny and water leaked just everywhere requiring me to use the towels to mop it up. Breakfast just incredibly basic with plastic 3 l milk containers and tinned fruit salad Any cooked items extra and signs on the walls elling uzx not to remove food items from the dining room If I was a backpacker I would have been pleased with this hotel but down to present at a national NHS meeting I was really disappointed at £99.00
