Disappointing. Rooms ok But lacking basic amenities such as hairdryer, bedside light, do not disturb sign. Cleaners leave rubbish bags outside room all day. No restaurant, only deep fried low quality food. Place looks run down. Bad music piped in public places is not relaxing.

The newly renovated rooms are clean, but are still horribly decorated with little to no modern conviences. Paper cups, cheap electric fireplace, cheap coffee, broken coffee machine, etc... etc... Shockingly low quality. No dining room, only deep fried pub food. Lobby bar closed, gift shop closed.... Looks like a place about to go bankrupt. Lawns overtaken by weeds.....

My husband and I spent three nights at Painter's Lodge in Campbell River and had a fabulous time. Our Ocean View Two Queen Standard room had been newly renovated and was beautiful and well-equipped. We appreciated the mini fridge and coffee/tea-making facilities. The view was spectacular and there was lots to see with wildlife and a parade of cruise ships just past our balcony. Our first meal (dinner) at the restaurant during Happy Hour was just OK as our server was not on her A-game but we gave it another chance and had a very good meal and dining experience our second night. On our third night we popped in later in the evening for drinks and a snack and again had great service with fun and personable staff. Having lived in Campbell River as a teenager for a couple years back in the late 1980s, Painter's was always held very high as a special place to go. I'd never stayed at there so was filled with anticipation about this trip and can say I'm smiling as I write this review because Painter's was everything I'd hoped it would be. I understand in recent years, different owners let the property get run down but it's recently been purchased by the Evergreen Hospitality Group and it's clear a lot is being invested in this property. The pool and BBQ area are beautiful, our room renovations were polished and clean, and as my husband and I walked the property, we saw that the cabins are receiving major renovations. So good to see! Beautiful spot!

This lodge is right on the water. It has a beautiful location over looking everything. Such a nice spot to build a place for people to stay

I got married at Painter's Lodge in 2017, and had a fabulous experience. The hotel was clean, well kept, and the staff was kind and helpful. I have been back twice since, and most recently, a few weeks ago. Overall, I am deeply disappointed at how the quality of this hotel has deteriorated so much in the last several years. I know it has changed hands many times, but was hopeful the new owners would have invested more into bringing the standards up to previous levels. Most horrifyingly, I noticed mouse/rat droppings on my children's bed that had fallen from the ceiling around the entrance to the attic. My two young children and baby were exposed. With hantavirus in the news, this is even worse. Staff did move us to the main hotel for our last night which I appreciated, but sadly, a new family was placed there immediately after housekeeping was in the cabin. So the owners did not take this risk to guests seriously, did not immediately clean the attic and address the pest problem, but rather prioritized income. There has also been a broken hot tub for years which makes the swim experience very chilly for much of the year. The rest of the hotel is sloppy. Weeds everywhere, landscaping neglected, hallway carpets ripped and flipping up serving as a tripping hazard, pieces of garbage not picked up throughout the property, and renovation in the main hotel bathrooms sloppy with cheap materials and grout smeared, and poor taste. This hotel was historic and classy, but no longer. While the staff were clearly trying their best, especially the cleaning staff who were lovely, my family will not be returning. I would not recommend.

Spartan accommodations. Low value for the price. There are much nicer places to stay in Campbell River.

A very comfortable place to relax and enjoy the scenery, ambiance (and food). We spent five nights at the Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it. A real highlight of our time in Campbell River. There were a few "hiccups" when we first checked in but they were quickly remedied. We also loved the food; fish and chips were great as was the Seafood chowder. The overall atmosphere, location and friendly staff make this place a definite destination for us next time we are out that way.

Excellent place to stay solo or family

My friend and I decided to try their newly opened restaurant for dinner. Arrived at 4pm and there were two other parties there. We were offered a tiny corner table and when asked for a better table, we were promptly told no those tables are for 4 ppl. When my friend insisted on a larger table with better view the waitress stomped to the other table with a sigh and threw the menus down. The rest of the evening the waitress made us so uncomfortable and unwelcome, then brought us the bill telling us “it’s that time.” The chicken in the chicken tacos was like rubber and the wine was flat. STAY AWAY!!!! There are SO MANY better places to spend your money.

I recently was at Painter's for work for 1 night and had family in a second room as well. The rooms were in the main lodge on the 2nd floor looking towards the pool. The rooms are quite unique, you step down into the bedroom area and bathroom is on level as you come in. Pros- cute room, great rate, good service at front counter during the day, food in the pub was excellent, absolutely delicious!!! Cons - the heating in the rooms is a little tricky.... the plug in room 14 by the sink did not work at all, so that was a pain, beds are very hard...... all in all, I would definitely stay again but maybe ask for a room not in the lodge with a comfier bed.
