"Old time Inn"

6.0

We stayed just one night visiting family nearby. The setting is lovely. We didn't stay in the main house, but in an annex off to the side. The room was clean and comfortable. We had to walk in the dark to find the room and had to use our phone to light the door so we could find the lock. A light outside our rooms would have been helpful. There really isn't any cell service so be prepared! I didn't like that there was no phone in the room that connected to the front desk in case of an emergency (yes we're old people!) The high spot was the restaurant. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Our waitress was a delight. We were sorry we didn't make dinner the night before. It's definitely a family home. Kids, toys, and lots of activities for the little ones abound.

The place is charming, peaceful, impeccably clean, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. The setting is absolutely gorgeous- nestled in the rolling hills and abutting a pristine, glacier-fed lake that I couldn't stop jumping into. I was there during the Summer, but am looking forward to returning during the Ski season- highly reccomend!

Old country inn facing a lake great for swimming, canoeing or just sitting around enjoying the peacefulness. The outside is a little worn and there’s no AC but the rooms are clean and it cools down at night. The food is great and the staff is pleasant and accommodating.

"Disappointing stay - breakfast was the highlight"

2.0

Apparently the term "cabin" is code for no amenities. Our "cabin" was actually a long building with four sets of rooms. In the pictures online, it appeared that there were two rooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. However, it was one room with a double bed and one single bed crammed in with two chairs, a dresser, and a couple of tables. The description said "sleeps 4". As soon as we walked into the room, I immediately started sneezing. It was stuffy and smelled musty. I went back to the check-in desk and asked if we could be moved to another room. However, they didn't have anything else that would sleep three people. The window onto the porch was stuck open and I was unable to close it. The first time we barely used the toilet it clogged. The bathroom was barely big enough to turn around in and it felt like the floor might give way. The "lake view" from the porch was through the chain link fence of an old broken down tennis court that had ivy and weeds growing on it. The buildings haven't been painted in years and everything looks run down. It's a family run business and the kids stuff is all over the main lobby and bar area of the hotel.

"Very old and not attentive owners / managers"

4.0

I just spoke to one of the managers at this hotel. First I called, a kid answered the phone, when the adult got the phone, they hang up on me without saying Hello. I called again, and I asked if i could speak to someone but seems like they were busy. They said call after 5pm. I called for the third time and I told them that I had bites appearing on my arms and legs which seem like bed bugs. The only answer I got was that they got it checked by the terminator and they are not bed bugs. That is all I got from this hotel. I told them the only different thing I did this weekend was to stay in one of their rooms. No sympathy, no getting my phone to get back to me, no excuse. Plain rude no you are wrong they are not bed bugs. The room was very old. The linens were from 1900s. The side tables and wardrobe was probably from the same 1900 era. The staff was mostly borderline rude or not very attentive. The restaurant food was amazing. Drinks I had was really good. The gentleman came from the bar to with the fixed drink and poured himself. It was one of the bets martinis I have had. I would not stay there but I would eat there. I should have listened to the rest of the reviews.

"Needs some TLC"

6.0

The lake was beautiful. Our room was clean. Bathroom floor was sticky. Thinking cause of the age of it. Shower dial was reversed. I froze to death and husband got scalded til we figured it up. Allergies were horrible because of all the weeds. Breakfast was amazing. Kudos to the chef. Was in the location we needed so oh well. Had no cell service if not on WiFi. Had to be near main building to connect to WiFi. Too many toys everywhere for a beer freak.

"Amazing experience"

10.0

This is an incredibly peaceful place. The Inn is beautiful, and the energy is very open and welcoming. It is such a calm, relaxing place that I did not want to leave. Sari is helpful and kind. Her whole family (everyone there) is amazing. I was able to stay here a week and enjoy the restaurant and the bar, and I needed this stay. I stayed by myself, but I cannot wait to stay alone again, and a third visit to bring my family back. This is a hidden gem. The Inn- The Inn is a wonderful place. There is no cell phone reception and limited WiFi. There are not TV's in the room. There are books all throughout the Inn. They are amazing books like World Books, National Geographic, and many classics. I want to do a scavenger hunt with my kids here. It made me realize how caught up I have gotten in this crazy world and what my kids do not know besides YouTube and Instagram. There is a game room with a pool table, ping pong, and toys. There is a communal TV room with channels, but also many DVD's. There is a sitting area around a wood burning stove, and also a fire place. There is a separate seating and relaxing area outside of the TV area, and there is a piano in one corner. The detail here is amazing. The Lake is beautiful. There is a long, large porch on the lake with a table and many chairs. There is a large bin with personal floatation devices, and kayaks and a canoe. All of these are free. I cannot tell you how relaxing it was kayaking on the lake. It is a calm lake and you can easily stop paddling and relax and picnic in the water. There is a playground on the lake as well, my younger kids will wear PDF's even though the lake is shallow at first and there is no current. In the morning the steam rises up, and it is surrounded by beautiful hills. The Restaurant and Bar- You have to look at the menu. The food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. The breakfast is included and was made once I was seated and ordered. The French Toast is the best, made with homemade Brioche. When I did venture off it was the Lox Bagel with locally smoked salmon, capers, tomatoes, purple onions and cream cheese. Delicious. For Dinner there are large and small plates, Tuesday is Seafood night, and Wednesday is a pasta night. I had the Pasta and it was wonderful. The Dining room is very nicely set up. The Bar is my favorite part. I went alone on this trip, definitely a great place for people without kids- there were many who loved it, but also a great place for people with children. I was talking to my daughter after the trip and told her the Bar is what it should be. It has a larger dining area, and the parents can sit and relax with a drink with the kids at the tables in the area. It is a bit louder but a great atmosphere. The best thing is when I had the best drinks in my life (an incredible list of cocktails, beer, wine), and when I mentioned it Sari quickly said, "drinks are supposed to be mostly alcohol right!" I was like, "yes, I am in heaven." The bar has some awesome books too. I could not stop reading one. Two of the best things about this place for me are the art and the inclusiveness. The art is from period, there is a local art gallery in the game room. The art celebrates all of life. There is a lot of historicity in it throughout time. One of the best bartenders ever, Adam, was amazing to get to know. He grew up in the area and helped to host the first drag queen show at the Inn. He said it was an amazing experience to bring his two lives together: Adam at Starlight, and India his drag queen identity. He said in one night his two worlds collided and it was amazing. The Inn at Starlight let that happen for him. Adam has introduced, or helped to introduce, Drag Queen shows to a number of cities in the U.S. This was a wonderful experience for me, everyone is very friendly.
